About Shanty Creek
The 5,000 acres of Shanty Creek Resorts are spread among three villages - Cedar River, Schuss and Summit, each with at least one golf course, restaurant and accommodations galore. The Summit is arguably home base with the Lakeview Lodge housing the Lakeview Restaurant, the spa and the Legend and Summit golf courses. The resort added the Hawk's Eye course and accommodations across the street in 2021.Facts

Reviews
Nice layout + challenge
Worth the play for the views, layout and challenge. Wish the course was in better shape the week we played. Lots of dry damage on greens and fairways. Greens tee boxes leave something to be desired due to obvious overplay.
Needs a little work
Played 7/25, not paired. Play this course often. The staff is nice, especially the starters and the cart attendants! Still notice some tee boxes and fairways have burnt looking patches/dead grass. The greens are excellent and depending on time of day can run very fast or slow. Threesome in front were hitting more than one ball at times which slowed the pace of play a bit. Notice golfers not filling in divots(we try to fill a couple or so while waiting) and also need to not ride the carts too close to the tee boxes or greens. Reminder plaques on the carts would help. For the money it is a great course!
Fun layout
Very nice course. Had to think about every shot. Rate of play was great. Well worth the price paid
Course needs a bit of help
Played on 7/23, not paired. We play this course often. It’s been better as far as condition. The cart path needs a lot of attention and now would be advised. There are a few tee boxes and fairways that have burnt looking patches. Not sure what the cause is. The staff is always very nice! Golf carts are electric, no ball/club washers, coolers, or GPS. There are ball washers out on tee boxes. Portajohns were clean but need to assure there is hand cleaner in them. There is a halfway snack shack. The course is a nice challenge for anyone regardless of skill level and nice scenery as well.
Great course
Played on 7/19, not paired. Staff is very nice, starter very pleasant to talk to. Carts electric, ball/club washers, no coolers or gps. Course in really good condition from tee boxes to greens. Portajohns were clean. No beverage cart that day. This course is a little challenging but pick your tee boxes accordingly. Couple of standouts, the course was nicely trimmed and the cart paths were the best we’ve seen! Hope to play again!
Summit course is fun
Condition
Back 9 is a bit better condition than the front but overall a good course.
Greens were fast but putted well.
Rough was manageable.
Price was fair for a course this well managed.
I'd recommend it. We had fun
The Legend
Course was in good shape but the pace of play was extremely slow. Ended up skipping holes and still took over 5 hours
Needs some course maintenance
Played on 7/15 as a threesome. Carts are electric, no coolers, ball/club washers, or gps but has rain bonnets. Most tee boxes okay, many fairways have burned out areas which is unusual for this course. Greens are good, bunkers are sandy. Not too many ball washers. There are portajohns which have been serviced since 4th of July weekend. Pace of of them lay was good. There is a driving range which was open, chipping green, and a couple of putting greens. Staff was all very nice, especially the cart guys!! Still need to work on a few areas of the cart path! Golfers need to fill/fix their divots and stay back off the greens with the carts.
Nothing special in design. Conditions overall were average for Michigan Summer. Greens were very slow. Pace of play was terrible. 5:05 round on a mid day Weds? Painful.
Challenging
Played on 7/14 as a threesome. Have played this course once before and it’s full of ups and downs, rolling hills, roughs were rough so hard to find your ball, tee boxes kind of hacked up, some fairways pretty spotty with dead patches, greens were good, and bunkers mostly sandy. Carts electric with rain bonnets, no coolers or ball washers. Some shade on the course. Portajohns were clean. There were areas if you didn’t know where the next tee box was it would be confusing to find, not marked very well. Pace of play was 4hrs. Staff was nice. This course is not easy for average older adults so pick your tee boxes conservatively to keep from getting too fatigued especially when the weather is hot and humid.
Why remove 150 markers?
Cart paths blow. Used to have 150 poles in fairways not sure why removed. Course needs some love. Better than legend though. Shanty need's influx of money new owners need to either do it or look to sell. Falling farther behind Boyne and other courses in area. I love all the shanty courses and have played for 30 plus years. Golf is great just need upgrades
Great Golf!
Played again on 7/5, just two of us. Lots of dew so no roll out in the fairways but the greens were good! Staff is always excellent! Driving range open now. A couple of thoughts for attention 1) the porta toilets need emptying and cleaning 2) some areas of the cart paths are crumbling and broken up causing carts to drive around and now creating some deep ruts and torn up green grass areas. Still a great track and mostly well groomed!
