About Shanty Creek
The 5,000 acres of Shanty Creek Resorts are spread among three villages - Cedar River, Schuss and Summit, each with at least one golf course, restaurant and accommodations galore. The Summit is arguably home base with the Lakeview Lodge housing the Lakeview Restaurant, the spa and the Legend and Summit golf courses. The resort added the Hawk's Eye course and accommodations across the street in 2021.Facts

Sunday PM Hot Deal
Over the past 3 decades I've probably played Arnie's Legend at least 30 times. That being said I took a 5 year hiatus from it.....with so many other options in the area it just didn't get put on the agenda for some reason. The Legend is always a challenge....a figure 8 routing and some really difficult green complexes to navigate. Overall the course is in decent shape however there were still old green aeration marks (looked to be from last fall but surfaces were running smooth) and also noticed some diseased areas of some greens. The Legend simply put is getting a tad "long in the tooth" with age. It desperately needs a solid rehab or renovation in a number of areas. Especially the cart paths.....many are crumbling and for a resort course of this stature it's really been neglected. Don't get me wrong I really enjoy playing Legend but Shanty needs to pay attention and invest some funds in to what was their featured 18 holes years ago....otherwise they'll start getting real push back for what they charge to play it. It's a 50/60 course at most right now....definitely not towards the c-note range. The clubhouse/bathroom facilities for the Legend/Summit courses are also is old, smelly and tired. The pretty Legend flower logo in the hillside at the first tee only goes so far guys. Recommend play however Cedar River (and now Hawk's Eye) are the courses not to miss at Shanty. 3.75 stars. Legend is downgraded from my 4 star plus plus previous reviews.
Beautiful course indeed
My Wife & I really enjoyed the beauty & layout. Staff was terrific!
Awesome Golf Course
This course is so scenic and is always kept in great shape. This is a must when you are in Shanty Creeks.
Disappointed
Dissatisfied because of slow play. It took us 2 hrs to play 6 holes. It should not be a 6 hour round.
excellent shape from tee box to green
excellent condition although greens were a little slow having been dressed. Only wildlife observed was one red fox. had not played in 2 years and enjoyed immensely.i agree carts could use sand.
Hot, hot!
Beautiful course conditions, thoroughly enjoyed the day. Very hot. Make sure you take tick protection. Very bad this year.
Bag drop people asleep
We came off the course, parked the cart at the bag drop, got the car. While I was gone the kid asked my wife if we needed help. She said we did. Got out of the car, opened up the back end and watched the bag attendant ignore us. Ended up schlepping our clubs to the car. End of story, end of thoughts of tipping.
Good time, nice course
Had a great time here in upper Michigan for Memorial Day weekend 2021. Excellent course, Troy was super friendly and very helpful. Highly recommend.
Another Northern Michigan Gem!!
Very good layout with mix of longer and shorter par 3s, 4s and 5s.
Tees and fairways were very good, only suggestion would be to add divot mix to the carts.
Greens were cut but not fast.
The bunkers and the surrounding area need work.
Pro Shop a bit light on inventory, but that could be due to recent sale of the course.
FYI due to recent sale no booze currently, no big deal to me but for those planning an outing it could matter.
Northern Michigan Gem
Very nice layout in good condition. Tee boxes and fairways close to perfect. Adding divot mix to the carts would be a good idea. Greens cut but not fast. Bunkers and areas around them need some work. Pro Shop poorly stocked but that could be due recent sale.
FYI no liquor sales yet due to recent sale of the course, awaiting transfer to new ownership.
Last thing was that I called to use my First Tee of Michigan discount and was told they were not partnering up players due to Covid yet I was allowed to book a single with an existing twosome on Golfnow.
Favorite
My absolute favorite up north course!!
Hi, u593231625. Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing Hawk's Eye Golf Resort.
Immaculate - Hidden Gem
If you haven't played Cedar River at Shanty Creek, do yourself a favor and go now! The track is difficult yet playable. Wildlife was abundant and the course conditions were second to none. Started at 5:45pm, played by myself and it only took 2 hours and 15 minutes!
Great
great fairway and greens! Scenic course in great condition!
Hidden gem. Great course. Great conditions for this early in the season.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you'll give us another try in the near future. Thanks for choosing The Summit at Shanty Creek.
Beautiful course
I have played Schuss many times over the last 22 years. It has gotten better as time went on. It is maintained meticulously. Guys are working everyday on the course. Greens are large and in great shape. Typically the keep the greens about a 10 ( not too fast) and they run very true. The layout requires using every club in your bag. Lots of dog legs working both left and right. You will enjoy this course and it’s budget price. I think it is way under priced but Shanty really likes having this beauty at a budget price.
Cedar River is a gem
Cedar is consistently in great shape and plays quickly. The layout is unique hole to hole and please to play. Some grip it and rip holes and some placement holes. Weiskopf laid out a gem with this one. You won’t forget 13 and 14. It is the course’s signature short par 4 and dramatic drop par three.
Hi, thank you so much for leaving us with your feedback. We value our customer experience, so your review is important to us. Please know the current conditions are by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We will continue to work towards a 5-star experience and we hope to see you back!
