Great cours!
We played in February so the course was in its expected condition. I know in season, the conditions are great. The round also took about 5 hours, but that may be attributed to the fact it was cart path only and quite busy.
I definitely recommend playing Independence - can be pricey but if you get a good deal on Golf Now, it is worth every penny.

Great course. Played well to me and a buddy's high handicap. Very nice shape, and the staff was awesome.
Highly recommended.
Good condition for winter conditions
The course in good shape for winter and wet, windy play. Great value
One of the finest courses in the area!
I have played a lot of courses in the Richmond area and this has to be one of the best courses, if not the best. It is challenging, but playable...requiring the golfer to use every club in his bag more than once. There is nothing tricky about the course...what you see is what you get. The greens run true and have quite a bit of undulation to them, but not so much that you feel like you are playing miniature golf. I absolutely love this course and can not think of one bad comment to make. If you have the chance to play it...take it! Well worth the money...great clubhouse, great range and putting greens, and excellent all around course.
Rough Year for Independence
We played the course earlier in the year and the fairways were terrible. They have now gone dormant, and there is not much grass on the fairways. Based on how tight the fairways are in November 2013 they will likely be a swampy mess in late winter and early spring. Very surprised they did not allow the fairways to fill in before Winter.
course was very wet and muddy.
Course was wet and muddy. Bunkers had not been raked. A bit disappointed since normally course is much better.
Considering it was early November and the greens recently aerated,, the course was in great shape.
Considering it was early November and the greens recently aerated,, the course was in great shape. The staff was friendly. The rate of play on a Sunday before a Monday holiday was good. The rate had been reduced since the greens had been recently aerated, so, overall, it was a great experience.
Excellent course, in great shape.
Staff were very friendly and accommodating when one-half of our foursome were late.
I liked the challenging layout of this course. The cost was tough to beat too!
I would recommend this course to other golfers that I know who are looking for a great challenge with a spectacular setting on nearly every hole. Only issue I had was my cart all but died on the second to last hole.

Independence is a good track and you can get a pretty good value there, especially in the evenings or during the week. Be cautious about weekend morning rates in season as can be a bit pricey (90bucks or so).
Very enjoyable course to walk and some serious real estate to look at (especially on back 9). 1st three holes are tough, but the the course opens up a bit. Greens generally in good shape, and the practice facility as well as the clubhouse are terrific. Great deal going right now, whatever you shot for the day (say 83) thats what your 1st on draft beer costs in the club house (83 cents).
