When I do this I get stuck and push everything to the right. Almost the dreaded shank....

I have a 47 inch driver. Would it pay to cut it down to 44 inches to gain more accuracy?
Honest question: Would it be easier to cut the shaft by an inch or so to achieve the same accuracy?
