Appreciate the guidance, but I think that it also should be mentioned how important swing tempo is. Speaking for myself, the reason I shorten my backswing is that it helps me to maintain a fairly consistent tempo, whereas a longer backswing tends to mess up my timing. Do you see that with your students, or is it just me? Believe me, I would like to gain 20-30 yards and keep up with the other guys in my group!

I love the big shoulder turn. I remember Jack saying his #1 cause of bad play was not finishing his backswing. I think it's just something we all forget to do, especially at the start of a round. So thinking big turn has always helped my game. (And btw, has also helped my tempo. Think Ernie.)

Nathalie, help us out. That alignment stick looks to be pointing significantly right and you said: "slightly right". Relative to the target line, about how many degrees right should it be pointing? It obviously matters to do the turn correctly.

hi Natalie,
This tip is really helpful for me because I struggle with being either
too far inside or two straight on my backswing.
Is your angle about 30degrees to the right?
Thank you
Bill Roche

Thank you for this. I am 79 years old and find my swing arc has gotten very narrow simply because I don't do as you suggested in this video. Tank yo!

I believe if you are coming back way past parallel at the top, that could be something that might need to be shortened. Some golfers have too short of a backswing but some do truly have too long of a backswing and have no idea where the ball is going. I've found out that reducing to parallel for driver and 3/4 for irons works pretty well for me.

I had a fairly short driver backswing in the past and hit quite well. About 240 to 250. I am 74. I lengthened the backswing at the start of this year fearing that I would flare it right or hook left since control would be compromised. I now hit 270 to 290 and just as straight as before. Her comment sure rang true for me.

Follow through is very important for chip shot. Her instruction is simple, easy to remember. I will try it next time near a green.
