Fire Ridge Golf Club

About
Fire Ridge Golf Club in Grafton, Wisconsin is a public course but it boasts the amenities and service of a private country club. It is not as well known as some other courses in the area and might possibly one of the state's best-kept secrets. The golf course stretches to more than 7,000 yards from the tips and was ranked as one of Wisconsin's top 20 toughest courses. Mature trees shape the numerous doglegs and there are also water hazards that come into play throughout Fire Ridge. There is an interesting mix of holes including challenging par 4s, with the most difficult being the 16th. There are no surprises on this tricky hole because it's tough enough on its own. Golfers should aim to keep it in the fairway and place the second shot below the hole, making sure not to miss the green long or else they're be facing a fast downhill chip shot.

Best Greens of the Trip
Keep your ball in the fairway on this course or prepare to be punished by some serious rough. Stray far off the path and there is no way you find your ball in the tall weeds around the course. Luckily there are wide fairways and not too many trees on the property. The modern links design at Fire Ridge is a fun routing that would certainly allow for good scoring if you can hit the ball straight. I could not do that during my round and I paid the price with an abysmal score, but it was still a great day on the links.
The stars of the property are the greens. Our group spent 6 nights in WI and UPMI playing several resort courses with high acclaim and the greens at Fire Ridge were the best we putted on all week. If you want to putt on some glassy surfaces that roll true then this is a great course to play.
The location of Fire Ridge is also very convenient to MKE Airport. this is a great first day in or last day out course, make sure to put it on your list one way or another. This course doesn’t get the accolades of some of the big names in the area, but it is certainly worth your time, and comes at a good value.
Perfect Day
I live in FL and toured 7 years chasing my tour card.
What a Great course from layout and condition! A real gem!
No tricked up holes, perfect tees, fairways and greens! There had just been some flooding locally so the bunkers were a little tough but no big deal on that-just don’t hit the ball in them and all is good. The grounds crew was working on them to put them back into shape. Great visuals and keeps you on your toes with yardages due to elevation changes. Definitely play it again!! Shot 73 and with a little local knowledge could definitely shoot lower. Thank you to the staff for a great day!
Get better
Green were not in very good condition and neither was the tee boxes. Staff acted like it was a chore to check me in. Probably won’t be back anytime soon. Pace of play needed addressing. I play 50 rounds a year. This is most likely off my list.
Love the course
Great design, appropriate tee choices, good condition.
Could have used a ranger due to one foursome backing things up and refusing to let the two twosomes behind them play through beginning at the fourth hole. Five hour round. Played in three and a half at my last visit.
Won’t hesitate to return.
Unimpressed for the money
We paid over $200 for a foursome to play 9 holes today and the greens were either ball marked up or people had dragged their putters or spikes across the front 9 greens. There was lots of repair areas on a few of the holes and the cart pathes were in pretty bad shape. It doesn’t appear that they have put any money in the course since I played it last a decade or more ago.
Fire Ridge fun
Very difficult greens with many undulations. What a gem close to Milwaukee. Food service very inconvenient because you have to go upstairs. Not really feasible to grab a sandwich at the turn without losing your place. Course was in very good condition. Sand traps were like concrete. Overall, very fun round.
Great track
Layout was awesome. Lots of bends and some blind shots. Greens were on great shape and rolled well.
I would recommend this course.
Only think I would say is the bunkers could use some work so avoid those if you can and the cart paths were a little rough.
Fire Saga!!!
First time playing and was really fun. Course was in great shape. Greens were fast and fairways were soft.
Very challenging course with a little bit of everything. Would recommend this course.
Only issue is the cart paths are pretty rough and bunkers could use some work. but that is easily over looked cause everything else was awesome .
Great change of scenery
I loved the hills on this course although there wasn’t much water. Could have had some convenient food like hot dogs or brats. Very friendly staff. I would plan here again. I had my best round ever!
Course has gone downhill
I have played this course many times. Some guys in my golf league said don't go there, they have let the course go downhill. I went anyways. They were right. Sand traps were hard as a rock and devoid of actual sand. The greens needed water badly. The cart path is a mess. Even that nice quick snack booth they had at the turn was shut down. Really sad how this once great course is now a mess.
Something to think about
I like the course and do play here several times a year. What I did experience this year was the lack of tee box choices. From the green tees over 6300 yards. From the next set of tees ( White) 5,500 yards. There is a lack of tee box in between, say 6000 yards. That is what a lot of golf courses are doing. Speeds up play... I'm 72 and still hit the ball good but 6300+ is too long. 5500 is way too short. Not enough of a challenge. I know a lot of good players and there not ready those white tees. Dan
May 18 play
The beverage cart needs work, communication from the beverage servers regarding what is on board and why items are not. They weren’t clear as to why cocktails were not available, and had nothing to snack on.
An Early Season Mulligan
Given the season is young and the course will dry up, I can’t be overly cruel with the conditions. However, a few improvements needed given what the current rate is: the cart paths are unbearable to drive on and need to be repaved, the majority of the bunkers need to be raked of rocks and old sand/dirt, a few greens (especially the back) were in very rough shape with ball marks/dead spots/unmanicured.
The staff were amazing and very courteous as always. Loved to new bathrooms/locker rooms. Today was the best pace of play I’ve ever had in the 20+ years of playing FR.
