Maintenance
The course is in bad shape. The fairways are a mixture of sand ans weeds. The greens are dead. The maintenance crew was working on the grass in front of us on every green. This made it hard to make shots without fear if hitting someone. They are trying to redo the course but they are way behind. Has the potential to be a great course. Not sure what is hoing on with the third nine holes they never use but, if they could open it up yo the public it might help.the other 2 nine holes catch up on the much need maintenance.
Needs a lot of work
I really love the layout of Houndslake but the course conditions are terrible. Will not go back until improve playing conditions. Teeboxes, fairways and greens need so much maintenance. Even the bunkers are neglected!
Unfortunate Conditions
Houndslake used to be one of the best courses in Aiken. Unfortunately, the conditions of the course and facilities really left something to be desired. I played in a scramble last year and it wasn't this bad. The greens on the front were unplayable all but 1 hole. The back was better, but not by much. $45 was too much for the condition of the course. Really sad.
Only been here once
The course conditions were terrible. Not playable probably shouldn’t have been open to play. A few greens on one nine were okay on the other nine they were terrible. Fairways were burnt grass and dirt weeds on tee boxes which are in need of work and sand traps a joke. The layout I think is good and could be a fun track.
I saw some signs of working on the course but it needs so much work I hope ownership has a plan
Not My First Choice
Layout was honestly amazing. This course has great potential but the conditions when I went out were sub par at most. Bunkers were full of clay, rocks, and made it impossible to hit any bunker shot. Marshal came to our group and told us to speed up pace a bit even though the group behind us never had to wait on the tee box, and were a whole hole behind us. Overall not the worst course in the area but there are many other courses around here well worth the money compared to this one.
Terrible
I was a member here 20 years ago when I lived in Aiken and it was good to play. As of today (03//06/26), the course is absolutely horrible in every way. Still a great layout just in terrible shape on every fairway (almost no grass), the green are spotty and full of poa Anna everywhere. After the round talking with the guy in the pro shop, he told me they haven’t had a greens superintendent in 4 years. Most of the traps are pathetic and in ridiculous shape. I can’t believe how bad this course has come since I left Aiken I will not play it anytime in the future and I recommend that you don’t waste your time either!
pretty nice course!
I really enjoyed the layout, and the conditions were pretty good. The greens were a bit spongy… but putts rolled well. Being that Aiken is off the beaten path I had never been thur here in my many decades of trips to SC & Georgia. Was pleasantly surprised by the on-site Hotel as well. Hope to return again soon.
BTW… never in my life have I seen as much Poison Oak in one location! Its EVERYWHERE here .. (and I mean everywhere) when off the fairways… so move cautiously when hunting your ball!
Awful greens
Course is ok, but greens are terrible. Some are slow and spongy; others are firm and fast, while others were sandy. Played in a tournament and shot 80 with 40 putts including 6 three putts. Cart paths are in total disrepair too. Much better options in Aiken or Augusta area with far superior greens.
Very good value and quality course
I play this course most every day as a member of the Club. I would consider other courses in the area, but none give the value for the money. Course maintenance is good but could be better if unlimited funds were available to the superintendent.
