Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa - The General Course

The General course was severely over-watered, which caused big ruts in the middle of the fairways as well as mud balls on most holes. Not close to being a premium course due to conditions and 5:15 round.

Played the South course the next day and it was in fantastic shape.

Terrible conditions. Course extremely over watered. Ruts from golf carts in the middle of fairways on many holes. Pace of play was 5.5 hours. No GPS for a challenging course. No sand on the carts to fill divots. Nothing positive about the course at all. Will never go back. The South course was in excellent condition. Superintendent at South needs to teach The General how to keep a course.

Haven’t been out here in probably 15 years. Even after all the rain that has hit the Midwest, the course was in phenomenal shape. Highly recommend. The only quirk is the range is about 3 miles from The General clubhouse. So leave yourself extra time for that. Staff was great, saw the cart girl on both the front and the back, and the hotdogs at the turn were great.

First things first, the staff was wonderful. Just wished there was more of them around. Never saw a ranger, which wasn’t a big deal because it wasn’t very busy. Only saw the beverage/snack cart after 16 holes.

Now, the course….. I played the course this spring and was pretty impressed. It was early spring so I didn’t expect too much. I came back yesterday and I was very disappointed. There were divots that were not repairs EVERYWHERE. None seem to look like they were repaired. I don’t know if they were and the mowers kicked them back up. Every hole had some form of damaged caused my some kind of wheeled machinery. One hole had rut marks that were about 8” deep and 3 feet wide. I know we have received a lot of rain this year but this stuff wasn’t even attempted to be fixed. There were unplayable spots spray painted everywhere. I didn’t pay much to play the round but for supposedly being a premier golf course, I was very disappointed. I get Mother Nature can give and take a golf course, but it seemed like they didn’t even try to hide it. Just there to churn out rounds.

I love golfing the General and really all of them for the scenery, the challenging layout with the elevation changes. The course is always in amazing shape. I allayed tell my golfing friend to check out Eagle Ridge!

Super nice course. The bent grass fairways kicked my butt because I wasn't used to them.

not good not player friendly bunkers were bad greens very slow and dead no rakes in the bunkers clover in the fairways not verygood pace of play was 6hrs to play a round of golf

Interesting mountain course in Illinois. Yes, mountain course. The front 9 is very tight (especially off the tee) and extremely undulating with huge elevation changes. The back 9 is more open and fun to play. Overall, a great course and even better value.

Took 2 hours 45 minutes to play 9 holes and hole 10 was backed up with multiple groups waiting. What is the point of a ranger if not going to enforce pace of play? 5.5-6 hours for a round of golf is insane. This was even on a weekday.

Had two rounds scheduled at eagle ridge. 5-1/2 hours apart from each other. After 5 hours we had only played 14 holes and had to leave to make our next tee time. Was told by an extremely rude ranger that we needed to speed up our pace of play. After talking to him we drove to next tee box where there was the group in front of us yet to tee off. At one point had 4 groups waiting to tee off on a single hole. We were told by staff it was a very busy day and nothing you can do about slow play. But there are signs in club house saying what the pace is and there are 2 rangers on the course. Will never play at eagle ridge again do to the staff and the pace of play. The bunkers are also in very poor condition and weed growth is out of control. The lay out is top notch but course is maintained very poorly.
