Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course

It’s an excellent layout especially considering it was built in 1895. Very fun, challenging but playable. Small greens with lots of contour and break especially at the hole. Great staff. One of the better Munis I have ever played. Will definitely return.

We booked a tee time for 18 holes at Van

Cortlandt. It had twilight tee time options after 5 pm so we selected 5:45. They charged us $120 to play 18 with a cart. The course is beautiful and has a good mix of types of holes. However, it was a Saturday and extremely backed up. We had only played 5 holes when, at 7pm, they told us everyone had to leave because of sunset.

Seems like a scam to charge for 18 holes when you know no one can play it in one hour. They also said nothing to us when we booked or checked in about

Slow golf. Took 5 1/2 hours. Had to wait to tee off on the 2nd hole and had to wait on every hole after that. Besides that, solid course with some interesting holes just ruined by the pace of play.

It’s great to get a little history lesson prior to the round, made you appreciate the course layouts a little more. Not a difficult course just a good course to experience with friends. What a preferred not to get pushed up against the group in front of us by the Marshall a couple times it felt like there was three groups on each hole at any given time, but that wasn’t good enough for them. All I know we had a round of four hours 30 minutes, which was just fine for us.

Have been playing this course 2-3 times a year for past 20+ years. It’s heading the wrong direction. 10am Saturday, greens still had morning due and putting green felt like a fairway after raining. No place to really stand on the Teebox

Vanny is a very fun course that is close to the city. It’s typically has a great pace of play and has been the best it’s looked in years this season. However, golf experience depends on who’s working on the day.

For example today we got rained and they didn’t want to give any body rain checks, which is there choice. But then they decided to post a video online making jokes about all the golfers that showed up and got rained out. Classless nonsense.

So yeah book it, unless there is a cloud in the sky in which case play Kissena, Moshulu, or Dunwoodie. They may or may not give you a rain check but they definitely won’t talk nasty about you for clout on the internet. Oh and to answer Vanny’s question: what we were doing was enjoying the game of golf in shifty weather. The homegirl with the Oboe crushed much respect, you should have featured her over the guitarist for the diss track tbh. Cheers!!!

The course conditions were less thanadequate between the overworked tea boxes to the holes and divots on the fairway to the unkept greens where the grass was far too long to get any real play. This course lacks an extreme amount of maintenance or golfer etiquette. It's surrounded by a beautiful Park and the staff are friendly, but when golf becomes more laborious than it does enjoyable, one has to wonder why.

Not really a lot of work from rangers and the starter. I play on Mondays because it’s usually the best day at the course but this past Monday was a 5 hour round with couple of groups with 3 empty holes in front of them making everyone wait. Staff said they told them to hurry and keep the pace but they didn’t listen. Staff doesn’t really have what it takes to move groups around and make a more pleasant experience.

I have played on this course many times over the years and I mostly enjoyed the experience, however, as of late, not only are the tea boxes fairways and greens poorly maintained, but it appears that the golfers have no etiquette as well. There are many divots not replaced, very long grass on the greens, tea boxes have severe wear and tear. I hope it's just the transitional phase and they're going to get ahead of it but this is mid-season and this should not happen. I would like to see golfers take better care of the grounds at which they play on such as replacing their divots as well as the ball drop marks on the greens. Overall, very disappointed with the upkeep.
