Oak Hollow Golf Course
About
After 50 years, the old 9-hole McKinney Municipal Golf Course shut down to make room for the new 18-hole championship layout now known as Oak Hollow. This new layout, designed by Maury Miller, opened in 1998, featuring rolling terrain that routes around six manmade lakes.
Miller’s design is particularly friendly from the middle tees, playing a fair 6,277 yards with several short par 3s and many average-length par 5s. The number one handicap is No. 15, a 423-yard par 4.
Getting there : Take Hwy. 75 north to Hwy. 380, then head east to Hwy. 5 (McDonald St.). The road veers and leads you 1 mile to the course.

Nature preserve or weeds?
Played with my wife yesterday and she hit a ball into the weeds on 18. Went to look for the ball and the Marshall rolls up and says we can’t be in the weeds as it is a nature preserve!!!!
Really!!!!!!
We laughed our butts off and went about play.
Instead of policing the weeds why not get the pace of play up and get some of these slow golfers going?
Greens were dried out and fast. Tee boxes dripping wet and muddy.
Will have to rethink playing here
Bad fairways and greens
Just not worth over $35, fairways were rough and dry - the greens were way too wet , course seems like it’s depleting - sad but hope it comes back soon
Great for what it is
Oak Hollow is a city owned, entry level golf course with minimal amenities and adequate facilities.
I’ll focus my review on the course itself. For a value-priced, public course, the grounds are in very good to excellent shape. Virtually all tee boxes, fairways and greens are well kept overall. If you have an earlier tee time, be aware that the groundskeeper have a habit of quite excessively watering the course in many places. More than half of our tee boxes yesterday were sopping wet and several had visible standing water.
I expect this is much less of an issue after 10am or so, but it bears mentioning.
The course design is extremely friendly and approachable for less skilled golfers. I am currently a 22 HCP and shot an 88 yesterday. Almost all par 4 holes are drivable for anyone who can carry 300+ yards.
Overall, Oak Hollow is a very enjoyable course for someone who just wants to play golf and have a good time. It’s a great value for the fee paid.
Round with son and friend
First of all, the course is in decent shape. I was a little confused of the layout. Seems like multiple holes cross over each other as in tee boxes and cart paths. A bit confusing. I would play it again since I know where to play your second shots from and where to not hit the ball around the greens. You need to play short and chip up to the hole. Pin high miss or long and you are doomed. A couple of them we couldn't find at all. Greens are super fast for this time of year and if you read to much break because they just don't move much you are 3 putting for sure. Practice green and chipping greens are nothing like the greens on the course. Be aware! By the way. So play is going to happen when they have tee times every 10 minutes. Be patient! FYI! Number 8 makes zero sense. My son actually hit the power lines and was fortunate enough to still make it to the fairway to hit a shot at a Mickey Mouse green that's still 200 yards out. Good luck!
Very enjoyable day
This is the first time I've played anywhere in a couple of months, so I was a little rusty. I thought the course overall was in very good condition. The fairways were in really good shape and the greens were in great condition (best I can remember in a while) and the pace of play was good too. All the areas around, but off the course were cleaned up. I even saw good grass coverage in areas that didn't have much a good while back. Overall a great day. I'll be back soon!
Nice greens
Fairways are in reasonable condition considering the extreme heat conditions. Greens are in fantastic condition. This course is fun to play for the average golfer.
Tough but fun course
First time playing. Staff was friendly but cart was a little janky. The brake lock would only work occasionally.
The course was fun but definitely has some diabolical spots where you have to be extremely accurate to not lose your ball or get into trouble. Would like to try it again now that I know a little more about the lay out.
Course in good condition
Greens were rolling and overall course was in much better shape.
Overall good experience
Greens still were running smoothly, even after recent
aerating. Every staff member efficient & pleasant.
The only downside were all the cold sandwiches were dater
8/28/26 & I tried to purchase one on 9/3/26. I think
that is way too old to still be selling them. Overall,
the one major amenity lacking at Oak Hollow is a reataurant
That short coming would not necessarily deter me
from playing there again, but, something to consider
in the future to be competitive with other local ciurses.
Great value
Teatime is always on schedule. Always great value, always in good shape, good group of golfers that are on the course.
