Iron Horse Golf Course

I have played Iron Horse many times in the past. This was my first time with the new layout of holes 1-3. Same holes as were once 7,8, and 9. So just new numbers to accommodate noise ordinance in the early morning for the mowers. That is what the Pro shop had told us. No big deal. However the fairways were pretty bad. The worst I have ever seen here. Not sure if it was this terrible summer heat and drought or neglect all together. Several had large areas of just dirt/rock/sand were fairway should be. I will have to play next spring I guess to see what they do. Greens were in pretty good shape, a little long and several holes had bad damage around the lip of the cup. (That could be careless golfers with the flag), but some look like they had been that way for a while. Overall a pretty good day out with my son.

Course was in very poor condition overall especially on the back 9. It was insanely over watered. On the back I would hit it in middle of the fairway and be hitting out of mud or wet sand. I have played this course in the past and it was never great, but it was always ok. This was next level bad. Paid $85 and felt like I was ripped off. With a family and kids I don’t get to play that often anymore, so it felt like waste to me. Very disappointing.

Upon arrival we were greeted in the very friendly and welcoming manner, I had used the GolfNow app to book and pre-pay everything so that was very convenient. Course layout is a little difficult to decipher being a first timer, but we did figure it out as we were playing.

There were 4 of us total and two of us had never played golf before at all so we were anticipating a pleasant experience, but after the 5th whole, we decided to let the four people that were directly behind us, waiting on us to locate our balls and complete the hole to play through so it did not hold them up!

While driving to the sixth pole, we were approached by an elderly lady that apparently worked at the golf course who was rushing us to play faster and continue to follow us around after the next couple holes to ensure we weren’t intentionally holding up everyone else which we were not!

She advised us not to let people play through, which is not common golf courtesy, and informed us that we had to speed up, which is ridiculous when you’re playing with four people who have to drive to, sometimes walk over to and on occasion search and retrieve our bowls from the rough areas outside the fairways!

I was very aggravated at the fact that we continued to be rushed when we paid our dues to play and it was at this time that I decided not to come back to this course again because I shouldn’t have to rush my play under any circumstances!

Course was very muddy and soggy until about 11 AM when everything started to dry out!

I was teaching my son how to play for the first time and being followed and rushed, gave us a not so well feeling!

We should be able to play at our pace without being rushed and let people play through if necessary, but those decisions were taken out of our hands and that’s not OK!

Fun course for the average golfer. Liked the layout. Greens had just been pirated and some fairways had some rough areas but overall fun.

Driving range was closed and though I booked a week in advance, a notice would have been greatly appreciated. I have been golfing at this course for the last four years and during that time, the landscape and condition has not improved. The rough is cut much higher than other courses. If you’re slightly off the fairway, you are not gonna find your ball. The rocks throughout the entire course is disappointing to see year-over-year. And to top after asking for ice for my water container and ordering two drinks,,,I turned to put my drinks in my golf cart the cart/ beer girl drove away with my owala container on the back of her cart! I shouted for her to stop, but since she had her headphones on, she couldn’t hear me and my container fell off the back of her cart and got damaged pretty good. Pretty bad experience over all.

Fairways are in terrible condition and the place of play was extremely slow. Allowing groups of 6 on a Saturday afternoon is ridiculous and no marsh in sight to speed things up. Ended up skipping the last few holes as we were stacked 2 or 3 groups deep at every tee box and we got tired of waiting.

GolfNow won’t let me give the correct stars. The only saving grace were the greens were consistent and solid. Fairway should have have dirt and gravel in nearly every hole. For $90?! Ridiculous price. Rough is very challenging, but at least it’s consistent. Hitting a fairway should not have you free dropping bc you’re in dirt on loose gravel in THE MIDDLE OF THE FAIRWAY. Cousins said this used to be a nice course, but was absurd.

Played here many years ago and they’ve made some nice updates. I think they need to renumber the holes so the lay out flows. Otherwise, the course was in great shape and it was a great round of golf.

Front nine was great, however back nine fairways are in very bad condition. They have to consider a complete overhaul in order to be considered a viable golf course going forward.

Rain has washed out a lot of the fairways, needs to be reflected in price.

Its been many years since I played this course, and I was surprised how poor the conditions have become. Holes 10-16 are nearly unplayable due to the fairways being destroyed.

Course improvements/ maintenance is getting better, Aeration and fertilizer spreaders working at my T time, back nine twice due to that. Golf cart was out of front wheel alignment but not an big issue. Will play in the future after all the aeration is done. As usual friendly staff, nice golf range, decent round pace, fun to play golf course.

It’s a decent course but if I’m gonna pay these rates I’m going to bear creek. The conditions are comparable to prairie lakes but for almost double the price

This is a fun course with great holes that mix up how they should be played. Varying lengths and some which force you away from driver off the tee. Some fairways were in very poor, rocky and baron conditions. Others were perfect. The final point is this course is NOT walkable. They have it laid out so you have to go past the clubhouse multiple times with multiple turn arounds and a weird overall layout. Hole 1-3 are by hole 10, but hole 4 is on the completely opposite side of the course. Hole 16 is across the freeway, but hole 18 is another significant drive back across past hole 15. As a first timer if I didn’t have a local in our 4-some it would have been very difficult to get around.
