About
Designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, the links-style Golf Club at Fossil Creek was nominated by Golf Digest as one of the best new public golf courses in Texas when it opened in 1987, and has lived up to that advance billing since then. The course is scenic, with massive trees, limestone bluffs, bubbling creeks, and numerous lakes that bring water into play on 15 of 18 holes. The course boasts pretty rolling fairways and 18 testing holes all intertwined throughout streams created by Fossil Creek. It's surrounded by rocky-ledged creeks and crystal lakes.

Forced to Pay Twice for One Cart
As a regular customer who plays Fossil Creek Golf Club often, I was really disappointed with how my experience was handled.
I completely understand being paired with another golfer and sharing a cart. I have no issue with that. The problem was that the gentleman I was paired with was around 370 lbs. I'm 6'2" and 270 lbs myself, and there simply wasn't enough room for both of us to safely and comfortably share one cart.
The other golfer even told the pro shop that I should have my own cart because of the situation. When I explained this, I was told I would have to pay an additional $27 for a second cart. I asked why, since I already paid the cart fee. The response I received was that "everyone is treated equally." I replied, "Exactly. So why am I being asked to pay a cart fee twice when I never received the cart seat I already paid for?" The other golfer effectively occupied both seats, so I didn't receive the service my cart fee was supposed to cover.
What made it more frustrating was that this was a Thursday around 2:00 PM, and the course really wasn't that busy. There were several open tee times ahead of us. I was told they needed to keep carts available because it would get busy later, but I don't think customers should be denied a reasonable accommodation based on what might happen later in the day.
I wasn't asking for special treatment. I was simply asking to receive the cart access I had already paid for. As someone who plays this course regularly, I expected better customer service and a little common sense. I hope management reconsiders how situations like this are handled in the future.

Usually in good shape but haven't been there in awhile. Wasn't told about airated greens and overall course wasn't as good as it usually is

Layout only really makes sense from the Tips, unless you're a short hitter.
The Layout: Forced Layups & Poor Architecture
There is a massive difference between a course that is challenging by design and one that is just poorly planned. Unfortunately, this course falls into the latter category. Unless you are playing from the absolute back tees or are a very short hitter, the layout makes no sense. I found myself forced to hit a 4-iron off the tee on two different par 5s and nearly half of the par 4s. With the exception of maybe two holes, you could essentially play this entire course with a par-3 setup. Forcing players into constant, unnecessary layups doesn't make a course "tough"—it just makes it boring and unenjoyable to play.
Course Conditions & Bunkers
The maintenance crew deserves credit for doing a great job recovering from the previous greenskeeper's mismanagement. The environment and scenery are beautiful, but the current conditions seriously impacted the round. The greens were recently aerated, I didn't putt a single ball as it was like putting from a fairway... I chipped everything on the green and it basically needed to fly everything to the hole due to how soft and sandy they were. Balls hit the green like they hit a bunker.
Speaking of bunkers—half of the actual hazards have no sand in them at all. I completely ruined a golf ball after landing in a concrete-hard greenside bunker that was completely stripped of sand.
Staff & Service
The silver lining here is the people. The staff all around are fantastic, welcoming, and doing a great job managing the facility.
Final Verdict for GolfNow
GolfNow really needs to implement a mandatory policy forcing courses to explicitly state when they have recently aerated. Playing on heavy sand ruins the experience. Between the frustrating, restricted layout and the current transition of the greens and hazards, it’s hard to justify a return trip anytime soon despite how nice the staff is.

Putting Greens are still rough….
You can’t really putt because the greens are dead. Sand and dirt everywhere.

Why are the greens so ugly.
3 greens were out of service and they had make shift greens in the fairway. There were a handful of other greens that were in terrible condition. Maybe 5 other greens that need serious attention and care. It is a beautiful course and sad to see that the greens are poorly managed.

Greens being redone but still fun
As others noted their greens got destroyed from the same groundskeeper who destroyed Cowboys GC. Many greens are temp. Still a fun course to play. Only complaint is design of course seems almost designed to suck up as many balls as it can even on great shots with slopping into water or poison ivy brush. Maybe with more rounds here I’ll be able to better avoid the unnecessary penalty strokes. Also a lot of homes and apartments which is a downside. Otherwise really nice course.

poor course
the course was in bad shape even outside of the 3 holes with temp greens. several other greens need renovation. Will not play again this year.

Rough greens
Honestly the freeze hurt all the greens on this course, they will say it’s only three holes but that’s incorrect m. They have only moved three greens the rest just haven’t been touch yet but are in rough shape as well. Everything else’s minus’s the greens are in great shape so hope they can make them bounce back!

Greens have been lost
Played here on 4/16/26. At least half of the greens were unplayable, they have completely lost them. No advanced notice or reduction in price. Rest of course was solid-tee boxes, fairwsys, bunkers. But greens are lost. Sad
