Joe Louis Golf Club

It was in good condition considering most of the golf courses south of Chicago took a hard beating this summer from the storms and tornado's.

The course was designed well as a course meant to test a golfers course management and ability to play around obstacles. With bunkers protecting most greens, fairway bunkers that force accurate driving, and water that will penalize mistakes i think Joe Louis is for the golfer who wants a challenge.

Where it fell short is that it becomes too much of a challenge and almost unfair that simple amenities were unavailable such as ball washers and availability of water for my towel to clean clubs during my round. I dipped my towel in a muddy puddle at the start of my round to try to keep my equipment clean but it dried up and I was left with a dirty ball and dirty clubs.

I couldn’t believe the conditions at Joe Louis the Champ Golf Course. I enjoyed many rounds of golf at this place. What’s funny is I played it earlier this season (May 2026) and it looked great. I don’t know what happened in the between May and September but what ever happened it’s for the worst.

Typically and historically this is a nice course. The layout is still very good and I have no complaints there. Unfortunately the course conditions were horrible. Tee boxes were full of divots and loose and broken tees, the fairways were full of divots and were dry and arid and the rough was......rough. But even more disappointing were the greens. They had divots and lots of bumpy paths to the hole. I've played here several times, even twice prior this season and never have I seen conditions this bad. The staff was pretty cool and the ladies did come out to the course with drinks and refreshments, so no complaints there. Please pay attention to this beautiful course and don't let it go unattended. It serves a community that doesn't have a lot of golf options and they deserve a premium course like Joe Louis has historically been.

Fairly chill if you don't mind a long as round and other golfers hitting your balls and rough was also so long I lost multiple balls I saw down and just could not find.

Nice people course needs some serious seeding and more sand but enjoy the course.

The course was in the worst condition, I’ve ever seen. There was no way this golf course should’ve been open due to flooding.

Good value for 18 holes. Challenging layout, with plenty of longer holes. Course conditions were ok although there were spots in the fairways that were spotty, and the bunkers didn’t have any rakes. Otherwise for the cost of 18 holes it was definitely a good value. Would play again.
