Great lay out, not well kept
You lose so many balls here 1) because there are a few narrow tees and anything not straight gets lost in the woods. Thats not a huge deal it makes for a challenging course. but 2) the fairway is barely a fairway, its as long as the rough and you lose balls that you hit well! that's SUPER annoying when you can't find a well hit ball either! The greens have more than a few rough spots but for $40 you get what you pay for.
Not so great
This course used to be nice years ago. Lack of maintenance is an understatement. Not sure if it’s funding from state or what but for almost $50 normal greens fees I’d say no. But I got a deal on the app and it’s close to my fathers house.
DO NOT PLAY
There is basically no fairway height cut. No distinction between fairway and rough. There is not much bent grass at all in the "fairways" and tee boxes. Mostly weeds. There are many severely damaged greens. There are multiple tee boxes which have tree branches encroaching to where you are hitting them on your backswing. I would only play again if the cost was under $8.
The only charm is the staff was decent and there was a flock of wild turkeys wandering around.
Horrible!
I think this is the worst course I’ve ever played, condition wise and I’ve played hundreds of courses in my life. Don’t bother spending your money or time here.
Would not play again
This course had no difference betweent the length of the grass in the fairways and length of grass in the rough, half the grass on the greens are dead. Tee boxes are awful. Photo is a “fairway”
Poor conditions
There are no ‘fairways’ since the grass is not well kept. You’ll hit a drive perfectly and have a 80% chance to lose the ball since the grass is so high. Greens are halfway decent but most are in poor shape.
Fairways
The grass on the fairways are always a little too rough, far and few low cut. Balls are difficult to find.
Beautiful old school course
This course is comparable to George Dunne with less attention. Remarkable, challenging links course in great shape despite good traffic.
Nice layout rough shape
This course is cool because of its small greens and fun layout. The greens do need to be rolled to slow. The fairways the grass is to long they don’t have irrigation system so they leave the fair grass long so fair and the rough are the same you will loose some balls in the fairway. Bunkers are hard like most municipal courses. Al Capone used to live across the street and play is sometimes. Currently it’s in need of some TLC.
The price was just raised to 46 dollars If you don’t get it on golf now.
It’s only worth 25 dollars. It will not be crowded so quick play is possible. Only a few golf now tee times then over priced.
DO NOT PLAY
One of the worst courses I’ve ever played. No fairways and the greens are in terrible condition. Trees and leaves scattered everywhere, course layout makes 0 sense. Definitely will never be coming back.
First and Last Time Playing This Course
Typically Forest Preserve courses are fairly simple but can be fine for a relaxed round of golf. However, this course was one of the worst I’ve played in 30 years on the links. There are no fairways, grass is the same length everywhere. Tee boxes are completely neglected, over grown and often have tree branches overhanging. No, those tree branches are not a planned obstacle they are there because the course is completely neglected. Greens are chewed up and lined with unrepaired divot marks. On a few holes I even had to ‘scout ahead’ to see where I was supposed to be aiming because it was so unclear. There are only two positives from this course: 1) the greens are small so you can work on target practice and 2) since I know how horrible this course is, I can tell others to save their money.
