Rouge Park Golf Course
About
Rouge Park Golf Course is the city of Detroit's hidden gem. The course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1923. Despite the expansion of Detroit's golf offerings in later years, Rouge Park G.C. is still considered one of the best and most challenging of them all. The tranquil setting boasts an abundance of wildlife including deer, pheasants, and herons, making you completely forget that you're in the city. The golf course was carved from rolling hills, providing tricky contours and dramatically elevated tees. The Rouge River winds through the layout, coming into play on six holes. The difficulty of the course is balanced by the wide, player-friendly fairways. The par-4 11th is considered one of the Detroit metro area's toughest holes. It requires a 280-yard drive in order to clear not just one but two water hazards.

Surprisingly good
Work near the area, pleasantly surprised at how nice the course was compared to everything around it. Little gem on the west side
Golfing is better than not golfing
First time playing here. It’s a solid mix of challenge and playability with a decent layout. You’ve got some elevation, a few good doglegs, and the Rouge River comes into play, which keeps things interesting. Overall, pretty good bang for the buck. That said, it’s early spring, so conditions were a little rough in spots. A few greens had some pretty noticeable patchwork from repairs. The clubhouse is really small with nowhere to sit or hang out before or after the round, so amenities are definitely lacking. One thing that stood out right away was not being able to take carts to the parking lot to load up. That felt unnecessary for this type of course, but maybe it’s due to the surrounding area. Biggest issue was pace of play. There were backups most of the round and it ended up pushing past five hours, which took away from the experience. Overall, still worth playing if you’re in the area and can grab a good deal. I’d probably give it another shot mid-summer when conditions are better.
How do you run out of golf carts?
Golf course was 1hr and thirty minutes behind on tee times because golfers had to WAIT for CARTS to come in from the course!
Only good thing was they texted me to warn it would be an hour delay and they comped me for future round.
But was a crappy roundand very slow because they let 4 walkers go ahead of others waiting on carts...Slow Play with NO Ranger presence.
Great course
Rouge Park is one of the best city courses I've played. Staff was very friendly and the course was in great shape!! Definitely coming back.
Had a great time in spite of slow pace of play. The couse was in great shape for the time of year
A metro Detroit Gem
Out of all the courses I play in metro Detroit, Rouge by far is one of my favorites. It's a tough but yet really fun course to play.
Didn’t let me finish 18
My tee time was 1230. I didn’t tee off till 105 because of how backed up hole 1 was. And then at 5:20 staff member comes up at whole 17 and tells me I can’t finish 18 because it’s getting too dark as I was getting ready to walk off to 18!! I told management and all they told me was “all I can do is apologize”. 17 holes! Couldn’t finish the last one!
Cold, but cool!
We teed off at 8:28 am, only 1 person was out ahead of us, so pace of play was no issue at all. The 40 degrees at tee was an issue… hitting rocks off your 6 iron is never fun.
But it warmed up with enough, and all we kept stating was, how cool this course is, how we can’t wait to play it again, and it was worth freezing for the first few holes to have the experience we had on this course, which is meticulously maintained, even in the midst all the fall leaves, and falling temps.
Love this place. It may have been cold, but our round was a cool way to spend the morning. We’ll be back, same time of day, before the snow flies.
