Next up is Dom Pedro Old Course, Paul and Chris meet up to play this stunning course. With its wonderful old trees lining the fairways and protecting the greens, Chris and Paul play the tough 4th hole, an enjoyable par 3, where Paul gets a birdie. Chris leaves Paul for the afternoon and heads off to Amendoeira, the Faldo course. He plays the 13th hole, a long par 5, on this prestigious course in the Algarve. Paul ends the episode playing Monte Rei, one of the best golf courses in Portugal, a Jack Nicklaus signature. Can Paul’s game match the surroundings, as he plays the 13th hole, a par 4?

The Golf Courses of Lawsonia in Green Lake is one of Wisconsin’s greatest golf treasures. The Links is a classic inland links of blind shots, mounding and incredible hilly topography to challenge and engage the best of players. The newer Woodlands course delivers a contrasting viewpoint with tons of trees and more elevation changes. It’s a…

Both properties share accommodation and amenities, offering fully equipped rooms and suites with private balconies. At the Granada Hotel, guests can savor Japanese, Italian and Mexican cuisine across three restaurants,…
The John Steidel design at the Apple Tree Golf Course doesn't make coveted "best-of" lists by Golfweek or Golf Digest anymore, although something even more appealing continues to attract players. The club's famous apple-shaped island green draws golfers from near and far. The fruity theme of Apple Tree might come across as cheesy if the 6,971-yard course wasn't so darn good.
Crooked Tree, one of Boyne Resort's many northern Michigan golf courses, has reopened after a winter under the knife at the hands of architect Arthur Hills.
There are three nine-hole courses at Evergreen Golf Club, which has been a local favorite since opening the North-South nines in 1973. While Evergreen isn't a trophy course, it probably has a more "bang for your buck" quotient and you have a better chance to shoot a number. To some golfers, those options are more significant, Jason Scott Deegan writes.
Kayak Point Golf Course, a Ronald Fream design that opened in 1977, is ready for a rebirth. Located 50 miles north of Seattle in Stanwood, Wash., there are plans to invest $500,000 into the 260-acre property over the next three years. What doesn't need upgrading is a scenic and serene routing that roams through some of the tallest trees in the Pacific Northwest, Jason Scott Deegan writes.
Towering pine trees that look more North Carolina than Florida and elevation changes that look more north Georgia than north Tampa are just a couple of elements that make some of Tampa's courses among the more unique in the Sunshine State. The combination of diverse topography and innovative course designers resulted in an engaging menu of special, one-of-a-kind layouts. The eclectic group of golf architects responsible for these courses include Tom Lehman, Bobby Weed, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Donald Ross, Tom Bendelow, Chip Powell, Larry Packard and John Sanford.
Three new South Carolina private clubs - The Tree Farm, Old Barnwell and Cypress Shoals - will likely capitalize from their proximity to Augusta National.
The notion of "edible golf courses" seems incredibly far-fetched. And yet, here are a few examples of layouts where the term "greens" has multiple meanings.
So you're facing that familiar travel dilemma: You're on a strict budget, but you still want to play some of Tampa's best golf courses, right? Fact is, the area has a great line-up of courses with green fees less than $45, and several are cheaper than that even during the busy winter.
Aliante Golf Club is a pleasant mid-level golf course in the Las Vegas area, with solid course conditions from tee to green and hole variety. With its modern length and generous fairways, Aliante makes for a golf course where driver is the obvious play off the tee.
Going "rustic" seems to be a growing trend at golf resorts. Sandhill, a new luxury cabin accommodation, opened at The American Club -- the five-star resort north of Milwaukee -- this spring. There's also the Golden Eagle Tree House at Primland in Meadows of Dan, Va. It's no secret that well heeled travelers are always looking for something different and special -- and that's what makes these cabins cool.
When it comes to casino golf, Las Vegas might be the first spot that comes to mind. But Sin City's only the beginning. Here are my favorite casino courses around the U.S.
Stonewall Golf Club in Gainesville, Va. may be public, but it lives like a private club from the well-manicured course to the 13,000-square-foot clubhouse with its coffered ceilings and massive stone fireplace. Set against a backdrop of the Bull Run Mountains and Lake Manassas, this scenic Tom Jackson design is blessed by gently rolling hills and plenty of tall trees.
Golfers travel for miles to take on the apple-shaped, island-green 17th at Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima, Washington, but they usually leave impressed by the entire experience. Architect John Steidel designed the 6,971-yard course in 1992, cutting holes from a century-old apple orchard that continues to grow trees and bear fruit.
The old growth fir and cedar trees lining Kayak Point Golf Course in Stanwood, Wash. tower over players. They provide the seclusion from the outside world that golfers crave. There's no noise from nearby roads or homes, just you against Mother Nature. There aren't many bunkers here and water comes into play on only two holes. But untamed terrain creates a routing that plays much longer than its yardage.
The Monterey Peninsula's only short course, the Peter Hay Golf Course at Pebble Beach Resorts, defends par with tiny greens, scruffy bunkers and crooked trees. The wind off the water makes club selection a challenge.
Also known as "The Hills," Mission Inn Resort and Club's Las Colinas Course was designed by former PGA Tour player Gary Koch. Opened in 1992, the course contrasts with the resort's other course, El Campeon, which is actually hillier and opened in 1917. Las Colinas has six sets of tees and measures 7,230 yards from the tips. Spread out through a development, the course features large greens, plenty of water and sand, and thick trees guarding many of the fairways.
Garrisons Lake Golf Club is situated just south of Smyrna and only nine miles north of Dover, putting it at a convenient location to and from all parts of Delaware and the surrounding states. Featuring rolling fairways lined with mature trees and large, undulating greens, the course has been a local favorite for affordable golf for decades.
At most courses, the aiming point off the tee is to the left of a certain bunker or toward a tree off in the distance. At Bali Hai Golf Club, the points of reference are wildly more dramatic, like the giant "M" atop the golden Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino or the tip of the Luxor pyramid. What makes Bali Hai great is its ideal location on the Las Vegas Strip. The backdrop looks amazing, and the convenience of getting here trumps most rival golf courses in Sin City.
On clear days you can see the snow-capped peak of Mount Rainier from many of the holes at Druids Glen Golf Club, which has the reputation for being of the toughest golf courses in the entire state of Washington. The 230 acres is littered with trouble -- thousands of evergreen trees, 60 bunkers, nine lakes and poa annua greens faster than most public clubs in the Pacific Northwest.
The Celebrity Course at Indian Wells Golf Resort features a little more topographical variance than the resort's Players Course and also has more tight holes lined with trees. There is a stretch of wide-open holes on the back nine, starting with the 12th hole through the 16th hole. The Celebrity is rated among the best municipal plays in the United States.
Golden Golf Club is tucked away in the Columbia Valley, nestled between the Rockies on one side and the Purcell Mountains on the other. Surrounded by untouched wilderness, the golf course's rugged terrain was also carefully preserved. Mature trees line nearly every hole and water also has a prominent presence throughout the course.
Omni Tucson National Resort's Catalina course is an area institution, built in the 1960s and host to more than 30 Tucson Chrysler Classics. Contrary to the newer desert golf courses in Tucson, this Robert Von Hagge/Bruce Devlin design is a traditional parkland design with tall trees and eight lakes.
Ranked among the best casino courses in America, Belterra Golf Course & Resort is also one of the best public courses in Indiana. As an amenity to the Belterra Casino and hotel, this Tom Fazio-designed gem is set among the natural rolling hillside of eastern Indiana, winding through lakes and more than 2,200 trees.
Laurel Hill Golf Club, which opened in 2005, has quickly become an old favorite. There aren't many trees and water only comes into play on one hole. Instead, the challenges come from the length and the elevation changes. Designer Bill Love also incorporated sprawling, asymmetric bunkers that both narrow the fairways and protect the greens.
With three golf courses located at the resort -- the Heathland, Moorland and Parkland -- the Scottish-inspired Legends is a Grand Strand vacation in and of itself. Legends' Heathland, designed by Tom Doak, mimics a links from the British Isles. P.B. Dye's Moorland has a great reputation as a tough East Coast play. And the Parkland offers the diversity and beauty of the natural Lowcountry terrain. Tree-lined fairways, multi-level greens and massive bunkers abound.
Flatirons Golf Course is located in the outdoors-happy city of Boulder, Colo. Originally built in the 1930s, the course sites on 130 acres near the heart of town. It's a traditional design with tree-lined gentle doglegs, small creeks and ponds. Boulder's parks and recreation department has added bunkers, rebuilt others and is in the process of building new tee boxes, including a forward set that will play close to 4,700 yards.
Of all the golf courses in York County, the Heritage Hills Course at Heritage Hills Golf Resort is among the favorites. This scenic Russell Roberts design is filled with risk-reward opportunities.
The Fazio Course is the second of two 18-hole layouts at Pronghorn Golf Club in Bend, Oregon. The Fazio debuted shortly after the original Nicklaus Course at Pronghorn, making them the only side-by-side Nicklaus and Fazio courses in the West. Brandon Tucker gives us a closer look at Pronghorn's Fazio Course in this photo gallery.
Owned and operated by the Byron Forest Preserve District, PrairieView Golf Club sprawls across gently rolling hills dappled with native prairie grasses and wildflowers. The landscape lends itself to a variety of holes from some that are tight and tree lined to others that are wide open with a links-style design.
Ewa Beach Golf Club, roughly a half-hour's drive from Waikiki, was the first course in Hawaii to plant Seashore Paspalum grass, which provides prime playing conditions that stay lush and consistent. Kiawe trees pinch the fairways of the first nine holes of this Robin Nelson design. The back nine opens up, although the water lurks ominously at the end of the round.
