GolfPass recently released the fifth season of its popular series, Ask Rory. The concept is simple: Rory McIlroy spends a day with our production crew, golfers ask him questions about different aspects of the swing and he answers them.
This season comes with a bit of a twist, with celebrities and golf influencers stepping up to throw questions at the four-time major champion, with all-time great instructor Martin Hall serving as the mediator and the Legend Course at the Club at Ibis in West Palm Beach as the venue. There are 11 segments this time around and they're all worth watching, but here are three that I think you should watch first.
Check out all five seasons of Ask Rory here.
Fairway Bunker Shots
Golf commentators and teachers like to refer to a 50-yard bunker shot as the toughest in golf, and while I'm not inclined to argue, I am relieved that it doesn't come up too often. Regular fairway bunker shots, however, are more common, and not much easier. What other relatively typical type of golf shot do pros seem to mess up more than a fairway bunker shot? If it's tough for them, then it's really tricky for the rest of us.
Pitch Shots
Pitch shots from around the green might be the most under-practiced part of anyone's golf game. I know it's something I often neglect. Another golfer who needs some pitching help is Johnson Wagner, who's short game woes have been the subject of fun this year during some of Golf Channel's Live From broadcasts. On these shots, connection is key. So is the concept of collecting the ball, rather than hitting it.
Swinging Toward Trouble
To be fair, he may not quite qualify as a celebrity or influencer, but the GolfNow Gopher is surprisingly golf-savvy for a rodent. His question for Rory McIlroy deals with driving accuracy and strategy - specifically, tee shots where there's trouble down one particular side of the hole.
