8 junior golf apparel brands you need to know

Ill-fitting, garish kids' golf clothes are so out-of-style. These brands put just as much thought into their junior lines as the big names do.

Fun colors and performance fabrics have finally trickled down into junior golf apparel thanks to several large and niche brands.

Kids these days - they don't know how good they have it.

In my formative golf years, what little I remember of the clothes I wore is not particularly positive.

There were a lot of weirdly-cut polo shirts that were either so long that the fabric bunched up when tucked in, or so short that they constantly came untucked. Shirts and shorts alike were almost always made of heavy cotton blends that became miserably wet and even itchy on hot, humid summer days. Heaven forbid it rained; I remember having to borrow some of my dad's jackets and pullovers, which were comically large on me. Hats were usually just super-tightened adult versions.

The overarching theme was that to the extent golf-specific apparel brands existed back then, they were not interested in bringing that level of detail to kids.

Recently, though, golf apparel brands have woken up in a big way to the fact that kids deserve just as much consideration as their parents when it comes to clothing. They also likely understand that avid-golfer parents will have greater affinity for brands that can outfit their sons and daughters as well.

Just as post-pandemic growth has lifted the golf industry as a whole, junior golf apparel's own niche has enjoyed some significant tailwinds. New brands have cropped up while existing brands have expanded their offerings. PGA Tour Superstore, a leading golf retailer, has seen its sales of junior golf apparel more than double since 2019.

The following four brands specialize specifically in golf clothes for kids, and deserve your consideration for filling out your favorite junior golfer's wardrobe:

Garb

Garb is a leading junior golf apparel brand, appearing in pro shops nationwide.

Founded in 1996, Garb is likely the first brand to exclusively produce children's golf apparel. They have since expanded into general resortwear and collegiate-logoed clothing lines as well. You'll see their threads in prominent club and resort pro shops as well as the U.S. Open merchandise tent every year. Solids and stripes are hallmarks of their aesthetic, but there are fun prints as well. Think Peter Millar, but for kids. Each of the last two times I have visited Pinehurst Resort, I have snapped up a logoed shirt for my daughter. Both have been made by Garb. Girls apparel | Boys apparel

Courtside Kids

A hint of preppiness gives Courtside Kids apparel a fun, fresh look.

While their name nods to tennis (and tennis is core to their offerings), Courtside also dabbles in golf clothes for both boys and girls. Besides, there's plenty of crossover between the two sports. Blues and greens dominate their offerings, often with a slightly preppy edge. Boys 'Birdies & Aces collection | Girls collection

Marie Birdie

Marie Birdie brings considerable style to girls' golf apparel.

Founded in 2021 in Los Angeles before switching coasts to West Palm Beach, Fla. after an acquisition in 2023, Marie Birdie focuses its refined apparel offerings on girls aged 9 to 17. The brand's owners are passionate about cultivating an inclusive environment for girls in golf, and the sophistication of its clothing and relatively reasonable prices both point towards that commitment. Featherie

Founded by a high school golfer, Featherie focuses on providing functional golf apparel for teen girls.

There are dozens of golf apparel brands out there, but part of what sets Featherie apart is that its founder, New Yorker Kate Korngold', is 14 years old. Her mission to serve the under-represented cohort of fellow teenage female golfers is admirable, as is Featherie's use of 100% recycled materials for their clean, simple and functional apparel pieces, each of which is named for an inspiring woman. 4 other brands that make both adult and junior golf apparel

FootJoy

The Titleist-owned golf apparel and shoe giant has golfers covered - literally - with one of the most extensive product catalogs in the industry, so it's no surprise that they also have junior golf apparel lines for boys and girls. Traditional looks with restrained but fun prints and pops of color are FootJoy's approach, as usual.

Under Armour

I've worn Under Armour golf shirts for the better part of 20 years and love how expansive their junior golf offerings are. Their kids products are not just shirts and shorts - they even offer quarter-zip pullovers and long-sleeved compression-style base layers for chilly days. I can think of a few bygone junior tournaments where both of those would have been very handy.

Turtles & Tees

This primarily kids golf apparel brand also has a "Dad & Me" collection of adult-sized shirts to match their main offering.

Clique

Billing itself as "The Original Family Golf Brand," Clique offers four-way stretch polyester tops with identical prints across both adult and kids' polos. Styles like "Splatter Stars" and "Friday Flowers" speak to the colorful offerings.
