ORLANDO, Fla. -- Some golf courses weren't meant for carts. Put Orlando's historic Dubsdread Golf Course at the top of that list.
Golf Channel personalities Matt Ginella and Charlie Rymer played there recently. Out of habit perhaps, Rymer found his way into a golf cart on arrival, and, in the words of Ron Burgundy, immediately regretted his decision.
"I took a cart which was mistake," Rymer wrote. "This golf course lays out essentially like a city park and everybody knows parks are for walking."
Dubsdread, which dates back to 1924, once hosted legendary golfers like Ben Hogan, Sam Snead and Claude Harmon. Today the pros stick to new, elite golf clubs in the area, and Dubsdread serves as a welcoming, affordable municipal course just minutes from downtown. Most tourists around Universal Studios and Disney World never make it this far north.
So how do Ginella and Rymer's ratings of the course stack up with the nearly 200 other reviews of the course from both locals and tourist golfers alike?
Ginella and Rymer both awarded the course an overall 4-out-of-5-star rating. The course's average score is 4.1/5.0. Ninety-six percent of golfers recommend the round to a friend.
Ginella and Rymer did manage to play their round in four hours, slightly better than the normal pace as reported by reviewers. Course conditions at Dubsdread are an average of 3.6/5.0, which might be expected when you consider the course hosts 50,000-60,000 rounds annually and can be played by state residents for as low as $25 walking.

Ginella made a point in his review to highlight the facility's excellent customer service, which, when talking municipal golf courses, can be hit-and-miss.
"Service with a smile goes a long way to an enjoyable day," Ginella wrote (read his full review here).
Another characteristic that isn't always associated with munis, is Dubsdread's 19th hole, which receives high marks from golfers for its specials, drinks, patio dining and dinner options at the course's Tap Room restaurant and bar.
"Not that I know about such things," Rymer wrote (read his full review here). "But it's rumored to serve the best cheeseburger in Orlando."
Dubsdread is currently out of Orlando's Top 10 according to GolfAdvisor ratings. The best area course, at present? Waldorf Astoria Golf Club near Disney World, which sports a sterling 4.7/5.0 rating.
