Regulation Eighteen at Shawnee Hills Golf Course
About
Shawnee Hills is home to two different golf courses, an 18-hole regulation course and a nine-hole, par-3 layout. The 18-hole course has a front nine that plays across gently rolling hills accented with water hazards while the back nine presents a different set of challenges with more dramatic hills covered with forests of mature pines, maples, and oaks. The scenic Deer Lick Creek also runs alongside the back holes. The second half of the golf course definitely has more of a Carolina-feel to it while the front nine is more like a Florida course. The back is a bit tougher than the first half of the course, but wide fairways throughout make it a fairly forgiving layout overall, though the golf course boasts what may be the toughest hole in the Cleveland Metroparks, the par-4 fourth. This dogleg left hole plays uphill and demands accuracy with a line of trees on either side.

Great course. Slow play
I’m not the best golfer but the pace of play was so slow. It took over 5 hours to play 18 holes. First 9 was finished in less than 1.5 hours. The back nine was packed full of groups in 6 or 7 players. The two rangers in course rangers must have driven past at least 5 or 6 times with no warnings or pushing the players to play faster. Love the course. Great layout. Probably will come back but it’s going to be during the week.
Decent course
Enjoyed the layout of the course overall. Would play here again. One negative thing - We got in at 1:15 for the 2pm tee time. Hit the range and putting green and then waited at the tee for our start time. Then the starter let the 2:10 group out ahead of us for no apparent reason. We questioned him about it and he just said we need to arrive earlier? Very confused.
Highland
Played both courses over last 2 days. Not too bad for all the water we had. There are a few bad spots but the greens are in good condition. I expect this will get even better as it dries out.
Nice layout
Shawnee is a nice layout, plenty of challenging holes and the natural terrain makes it allot of fun.
Nice course
Course was in great condition….greens were in very good shape. Staff was professional….along with a beautiful spring day we couldn’t ask for more…
Got a late start for our 6:50 AM tee time due to frost. Staff handled the situation well and everyone was good humored about it. Greens were being rolled just out ahead of us, so they were excellent. Shawnee is a fun and interesting layout, fairways were cut to a perfect length. Rough was difficult but fair. by the 6th hole the weather had become fantastic for an overall enjoyable round
TERRIBLE pace of play
I had a tee time scheduled for 7:30am. We didn’t get to tee off until 7:50 because according to the starter, someone that works for the golf course booked 18 hole tee times going off the back nine the night before. I believe the starter decided that those 2 groups would not get to tee off the back and instead put them in front of the 7:20 group, meaning 2 groups were sandwiched in between the 7:10 & 7:20 groups. It didn’t help that those 2 groups had very limited ability, to say it nicely. It’s a public course, so it’s understandable that that’s going to happen. However, a ranger should have been on the course (I asked for this to happen at the turn) to make sure pace of play was maintained. My friend & I were paired up with 2 others. Due to pace of play and having to get somewhere by 12:40 (which shouldn’t be a problem when teeing off at 7:30) they walked off after 13. My friend and I left after 16 for the same reason. The very reason we traditionally tee off as early as we do is to play at a proficient pace. If we would’ve played the last 2 holes, it would’ve been a 5 HOUR ROUND. This is completely unacceptable with a 7:30am scheduled tee time. Very disappointed
