Cossett Creek Golf Club

About
Located just a few miles north of Medina, Cossett Creek Golf Club has an easily accessible location just three miles west of I-71. The course takes its name from the meandering creek that winds throughout the course. The layout is spread across 130 acres of scenic, gently rolling terrain. It's a round that is player friendly enough for beginners to enjoy but seasoned golfers looking for a quick and challenging round will also be pleased. The front nine is open and forgiving, a nice warm-up to prepare you for what's next. The creek comes into play throughout the golf course and there are three lakes that come into play on the back nine. The holes are tighter on the back nine and they'll put your accuracy to the test. None of the holes are particularly long, but Cossett Creek G.C. is a course that will make you think.

Improving
They are really bringing up conditions. The course was firm and fast, and the putting surfaces were good. The front part of the property (holes 1-9, 17, & 18) contains some bland, but holes 10-16 are a truly thrilling stretch of golf through rolling, wooded, tight terrain where accuracy and distance are required to score. If they could find a way to redesign most of the holes on the front of the property, this course could go from an improving value course to a true gem.
Course has nice layout
Totally enjoyed my round. The course was well manicured and maintained. Greens were in excellent condition.
Course requires strategic ball placement on some holes with water hazards. Would definitely play again.

It’s playable again
This course is 5 minutes from where I work so when I could sneak out early on Fridays, it was my go to. Then the course conditions got unplayable. At one time they actually had a dead green. Hole 12. Green was more sand than grass. That’s when I stopped playing it. Fast forward to yesterday when I gave it another shot and it was in good shape, not great, but it was more than playable. Tee boxes and greens were well maintained. Can’t wait until the next time I can sneak out early and get a round in here.

Bang for your buck
First time playing, front 9 was a nice layout with very different tee shots, staff was incredibly friendly.

Perfect muni course
Love this course. Really enjoy the difference in settings between the front and the back, wide open vs wooded. Friendly and engaging staff. Perfect muni course.
Great for location and money
Took my 9 year old. Only his second time playing ever. We played front 9 nine and great course for casual player. Some nice open holes. Couple tighter spots or spots with water. Great shape and great value. Will go back.
Very poor course condition
Course layout has some potential, but the course is in terrible shape and needs a lot of love. The front nine was ok, but all of the greens (front and back) were like shag carpet on top of concrete in that they were very firm and didn't hold well, yet somehow rolled very slow and untrue with a lot of irregularities making them difficult to read. The cups weren't cut straight on the majority of greens, and the cheap plastic ring at the top of cup was often sticking out of the cup. The greens on the back nine were even worse in that the periphery of the greens were horribly cracked and there were still aeration tracks throughout the greens (in the middle of July). The fairways were the worst I've seen, a mix of some live grass, a lot of dead grass, and a lot of no grass/mud/hardpan. Good shots were frequently punished, good putts didn't go anywhere or we're knocked offline by random patches of thick grass or dead green. The only upside to this course was the friendly staff. I can't recommend this course and will not be going back.
Getting Better
This course continues to improve. The greens are much nicer this year and the fairways are growing in nicely. They are continuing to rebuild the sand traps, remove dead trees, and fix the drainage issues. There are lots of low spots that can be soft due to the creek that cuts through the course, but they are able to maintain it well. Pace of play is rarely an issue and it's one of the few courses that is under $40 on a weekend. Darren and his staff are great.
Nice course
Play here couple times a year. Nice staff, they seem to be updating course. There were a few rough areas ... bunkers kinda bad. But still a fun course green were nice.
Fun, improved track.
Greens in great shape. Staff is very nice.

It's sad what happened to this course
I grew up playing this course. It was never high end but I liked the layout and it was decently maintained. It became run down a few years ago. The new owners have had 2 years with it and it is even worse. The fairways were brown with many dead spots. The ponds were overgrown with algae. The only worker at the course was the starter, not one maintenance person was there. Weeds were out of control. Then they actually sent out 2 groups of elderly foursomes in front of us as we turned on the back 9. It saddens me that I will never play here again. Definitely stay away.
Second time I've played this course. For the money it can't be beat in the Akron/Medina area. I booked a 4:39 tee time and didn't hit a single group in front of me, and was playing solo so I was moving quick. Not the best conditions, but I'll keep coming back. Front 9 wide open, back is tight but it's fun.
I hate to give it a bad review
Course was not in good shape. Narrow fairways, poor bunkers, numerous dirt patches on the fairways, and greens that were often elevated for no good reason. Plus, some slow play which is detrimental when you get in a groove.
One of the few pluses was the staff. Very courteous and I wish I could compare the course with their professionalism. I just wouldn't recommend this place to any serious golfer.
Drying Out
This course is so different once it dries up a bit. They continue to improve and work on their issues. The ball runs so much out here, and on some greens you can probably take a club less as the ball will ROLL. Lots of fun and the back 9 is a real test. Pace of play is usually not an issue and they run lots of specials through their website. Go check it out. Darren and his staff are the best.
bad shape
Played here years ago when it was Brunswick Hills, it was always in bad shape. Gave it another try and had the same result, fairways brown and bare, traps horrible, greens would not hold hat to hit every shot short and hope it didn't roll off the back. Felt like King Kong because the ball just kept running. Learned my lesson won't come back. Only good thing is the front is wide open and the back had a little character.
