Shale Creek Golf Club

About
Nestled in a quiet residential community, Shale Creek Golf Club sprawls across land that for a century prior had been the Gunkelman Farm. The course repurposes the rolling terrain into a challenging layout. The subtle changes in elevation make for some tricky lies. There are also many streams that meander through the golf course before cascading into the nearby Rocky River. The river even comes into play from the 10th to the 15th holes. The golf course features large, undulating greens and wide fairways. Water has a dominant presence on the course but the final holes showcase more traditional Ohio terrain with wooded, gently rolling hills though you'll still have plenty of water to contend with on these holes. Shale Creek Golf Club requires accuracy and it will make you think, but it's not too difficult for a beginner to enjoy.

Your just a number!
Had an 11:00 tee time. Bought ticket and was not told about any delays. Went to 1st tee box. A group of 25+ golfers waiting on tee. Starter told us there was a 50 minute frost delay. It was just myself and golfing buddy. Starter said we were paired up with another twosome that hadn’t showed up yet. The guys waiting to tee off said that we could tee off in front of them. Starter was rude and said no way. We asked why not, the prior group was already on the green and fairway was open. Starter called the general manager who came out and was a real jerk. He said can’t have all these 2-somes running around. Course is expensive, greens beat up, layout has some funky holes. Been playing there for the past 5+ years. Probably won’t go back.
Nice course but Irritating play management
Played 9 holes in the afternoon, pro shop had us start on the back 9. Not a problem but they put us between 2 groups making the turn. Group in front was no issue, the group behind us got mad off at us when we just arrived and doing what we are told by pro shop. Should have never been shoe horned between 2 groups making the turn, ruin not only our round but the people's behind us too.
No putting money into this course
While is has been very dry the last couple weeks. This course is mostly burnt out. Clearly they are not watering or giving the greens attention like many other courses are. And, then to charge $74 on a weekend. CLEARLY NO VALUE HERE. HEARD about similar issues at this corse for a couple years.
Poor condition for price`
We played early morning Saturday. Paid the premium price. The course just isn't worth that price. The traps are in terrible shape, all lacking sand, none racked. hard as a rock a inch below the surface. There are a ton of traps so it does impact your round. Also some traps had standing water in them and it really hadn't rained lately.
The tees were in bad shape also. Just not moving the tees around, lots of use and some just need rebuilding.
If I was paying around $50 I could deal with it but for $70+ in NEO its gotta be perfect. I would rather play at the quarry for the same price.
Looks like they are packing tee times
Love the course but lately it feels like pace of play has slowed down to a snails pace back to back weeks 5 + hour rounds
Beautiful course pace of play horrendous!
Course layout, conditions, staff and amenities are all fantastic. Pace of play and complete lack of awareness from the staff to enforce it was rather disappointing. My son and I left after 14 holes after tolerating the slow play for 4.5 hours. We guesstimated based in our time in the course it would have taken us at least another 1.5 to 2 hours to finish our round. That was in a Friday (non prime time slot). I realize golf courses these days want all the play they can get and will try their best to not upset their patrons. However, being out there for nearly 5 hours and not seeing a single course ranger to enforce “some” measure of pace of play was rather disappointing. I enjoy golf, but a 6 hour round is a bit excessive. I noticed many of the golfers out on the course were locals based on their custom golf carts etc. which leads me to believe this level of slow play is probably common. Rest assured regardless of how much I loved the course and reasonable price I will not go back nor would I recommend it to any of my many golf friends. I realize I’m perhaps being a bit unfair to Shale Creek given slow play seems to be a golf problem in general. That said, public courses who expect significant play and recurring customers really need to take pace of play into consideration and implement changes to help improve it.
Great Course
I always enjoy playing this course. There are some holes you can go for and other holes you have to play smart. A good challenging course.

Conditions of greens
Paid $60 to play a Sunday afternoon round. Course layout is not bad and greens were challenging. Fun course to play outside of the greens condition. Tons of pitch marks and looked like a kindergarten class did a dance recital on the greens. Zero chance of making putts as nothing rolled correctly or pure. With all the rain we have received those greens should have been awesome like everywhere else I play. Sad cause the course is nice and challenging. Will not play here again
