Shale Creek Golf Club
About
Nestled in a quiet residential community, Shale Creek Golf Club sprawls across land that for a century prior had been the Gunkelman Farm. The course repurposes the rolling terrain into a challenging layout. The subtle changes in elevation make for some tricky lies. There are also many streams that meander through the golf course before cascading into the nearby Rocky River. The river even comes into play from the 10th to the 15th holes. The golf course features large, undulating greens and wide fairways. Water has a dominant presence on the course but the final holes showcase more traditional Ohio terrain with wooded, gently rolling hills though you'll still have plenty of water to contend with on these holes. Shale Creek Golf Club requires accuracy and it will make you think, but it's not too difficult for a beginner to enjoy.

First bad review
If you are gonna have amateur tournament. Should down the course to the public. We had a 330 tee time. Took 3 hours to play 9 holes. We left after 9 holes. First time ive been disappointed with shale.
Yes
Awesome course fun layout for all levels. Great food and staff. Well maintained and worth the money. One of my favorites and well worth the half hour drive. Love the Bunkers!
Too expensive
A nice course, but not worth the money they charge there most of the time. We play there once a year if we can afford it.
Great shape this early in the season
Early in the year and looking good.
Nice layout.
Bunkers a Mess
Course used to be good but they were charging a $61 spring rate and there is barely any sand in the bunkers. If they fix the bunkers the review would go to 4 stars.
Your just a number!
Had an 11:00 tee time. Bought ticket and was not told about any delays. Went to 1st tee box. A group of 25+ golfers waiting on tee. Starter told us there was a 50 minute frost delay. It was just myself and golfing buddy. Starter said we were paired up with another twosome that hadn’t showed up yet. The guys waiting to tee off said that we could tee off in front of them. Starter was rude and said no way. We asked why not, the prior group was already on the green and fairway was open. Starter called the general manager who came out and was a real jerk. He said can’t have all these 2-somes running around. Course is expensive, greens beat up, layout has some funky holes. Been playing there for the past 5+ years. Probably won’t go back.
Nice course but Irritating play management
Played 9 holes in the afternoon, pro shop had us start on the back 9. Not a problem but they put us between 2 groups making the turn. Group in front was no issue, the group behind us got mad off at us when we just arrived and doing what we are told by pro shop. Should have never been shoe horned between 2 groups making the turn, ruin not only our round but the people's behind us too.
No putting money into this course
While is has been very dry the last couple weeks. This course is mostly burnt out. Clearly they are not watering or giving the greens attention like many other courses are. And, then to charge $74 on a weekend. CLEARLY NO VALUE HERE. HEARD about similar issues at this corse for a couple years.
Poor condition for price`
We played early morning Saturday. Paid the premium price. The course just isn't worth that price. The traps are in terrible shape, all lacking sand, none racked. hard as a rock a inch below the surface. There are a ton of traps so it does impact your round. Also some traps had standing water in them and it really hadn't rained lately.
The tees were in bad shape also. Just not moving the tees around, lots of use and some just need rebuilding.
If I was paying around $50 I could deal with it but for $70+ in NEO its gotta be perfect. I would rather play at the quarry for the same price.
Looks like they are packing tee times
Love the course but lately it feels like pace of play has slowed down to a snails pace back to back weeks 5 + hour rounds
