Horribly overpriced/ bad management
They should really sell Emerson to the Bergen County Parks Dept to make it into a public course, which would upgrade the course immensely. For the most part the "rough" is either weeds, crab grass, or just plain old dirt. Tee boxes are in HORRIBLE shape, especially the par 3's. Bunkers are either beach sand, rock, or underwater. Terrible management, and all for $90.I must say the greens were in good shape and rolled nicely, but this course is not worth a dime over $50, a shame because it is right in the middle of the county.
The management here sucks
The people that run this place have no idea how to run a golf course. This place is brutally overpriced, and is a bad value for the money. There are no rangers out speeding up play and the course is in bad shape. The staff is rude and is only interested in taking your money. The manager here should resign and the course should be turned over to the Bergen County Golf Operations. The course is a complete tragedy, the staff does nothing to make you wanna return. It's a real shame because this course has a lot of potential due to its unique design layout. This course is long and interesting and presents a challenge. I don't know how this place stays in business, however the management needs to change, or else they will lose most of their customers. If the owner or manger is reading this review, get it through your head that you suck at your job and need to change soon. It should be a crime for you to be charging such high prices for a low quality golf course. Your hearing it from somebody who's a golfer and refuses to play your track because you are stubborn penny pinchers, who don't wanna give an inch. Get your act together or sell the course to somebody who knows what they're doing. You guys are so bad you should be blackmailed from the golf management business. The course needs to be run the right way, and I don't see that. The owner is a thief, and should be ashamed of the way he runs the golf course. You clowns need to get your act together real soon.
Even though we had rain for a couple days before teatime course was still in pretty good shape
Thank you for taking the time to review us. Your feedback is valuable, and we look forward to delivering you excellent service again soon. Soldier Hill Golf Course thanks you!
BAD
Course had standing water all over, Starter made us go out on 10 because of a high school match.
Pleasant Ronud
Being very early in the season- the course was in pretty good shape. Some of the tee boxes were questionable, and not sure they'll be much better in a month or two. Course is open / forgiving but some holes on the longer side- which requires 2 very good shot to hit GIR. Greens were pretty quick and in great shape- especially for early season. I'm told they are very fast 'in season'.
Good Course Conditions but...
Would have been perfect if they didnt over book. Had to wait to hit every shot.

Winter rules
Nice track, wide open, decent conditions. Golf carts were cart path only due to wet conditions.
As a twosome, Played in under 3 hours!

Average course
I got a deal on the last minute golf app so it was worth playing but it's definitely not worth full price at this course.
Not worth the price
Nice course, however, not worth the price. Greens in great shape, the rest of the course needs work.
Oh Emerson what has happened
Every weekend when I am searching for a track to
Play I foolishly check Emerson. $90 weekend cost is so absolutely ludicrous for this course it should legitimately be a crime. The tee boxes are weeds, some fairways are completely weeds...in fact in terms of conditions the only semi respectable aspect are the greens (which are OK). This course could really be excellent with a fair amount of TLC, however it seems they have truly given up. The layout it's self isn't awful, it's a long course from both the back and white tees. Interesting holes and overhanging trees require good shot making however you can crush one smack down the fairway and land in a crevice full of overgrowth IN THE FAIRWAY! The pace can be OK or awful - truly hit or miss. All and all I wouldn't play this course ever outside of a hot deal or violent desperation. They have given up and therefore so have I. I paid $13 dollars ($20 + $3 fee - $10 promo) and still feel slighted. Stay away at all cost and if you pay $90 to Play I am simply very sorry for you! Emerson - wake up and fix the course!!!
What Happened to This Place!?
I used to play this course pretty often a few years back because it was reasonably priced, well kept and challenging. Since then the price has skyrocketed, which I assumed was because they rebuilt the club house (they need to). I was very surprised when I showed up to find the clubhouse and even parking lot where in the worst shape I've ever seen. I paid $58 w/ cart but it's normally between $70 and $90(crazy).
On to the round. My buddy and I had an 8:12 tee time. We showed up a little early putted a few and went to the first tee. The tee blocks weren't even in the ground yet, which isn't a huge deal, but still a little annoying.
What was more annoying was the grounds crew throughout the round. These guys could not care less that people were on the course that day. On the first tee they were cutting the ladies tee and finished the entire box before pulling off to let us hit. Later on someone blowing leaves near a tee box, came by and blew cut grass, leaves and other stuff directly into our cart. And the last straw, a guy cutting the first cut on 13 ran over my ball and destroyed it!!!!
The course itself was also in pretty bad shape minus the greens. Dead grass in the fairway and very overgrown rough. I will never play this course again and I'm surprised anyone does given the price tag.
Poor Managment not worth the price
Emerson Golf Club is run by a group of horrible people that do not care about their customers and do nothing to make you want to go back. I played there with my dad a few times for a twilight round, and they wanted the carts in by a certain time. I think that's ridiculous because of the fact that you pay good money to play there and the the staff just wants to leave early. I also don't like the management because the Rangers do not do a thing. I played there in a high school tournament back in May and by time I finished the club house ran out of food. You got hungry and thirsty golfers after they just spent 5+ hrs walking in 90+ degree heat and you have absolutely no food to sell seems ridiculous. The course is also not cheap either, they charge $90 for morning tee times on the weekends. Weekday twilight still costs $55 after 3pm with a cart and the course charges $70 for morning tee times as well. The course however is a great course that contains a nice layout. The course plays over 7,900 yards from the back tees making it a challenge. However the par 3s at Emerson are narrow and the course only has 3 par 5s making it a par 71. The back nine is longer and wider than the front nine, however the back is narrower and more interesting. I wouldn't recommend this course to anybody and the management needs to get their act together.
Not worth the price
It was a disappointing experience for me. I was not informed that the back 9 was closed for greens repairs. I was charged $30 rental fee for a very low quality bag of clubs. The fairway was not maimed and the greens were rough and bumpy.
The only good thing was the pace of play; probably because there were not many people out there to enjoy the beautiful weather at this course.
Highly likely this was the first and the last time I will ever visit this course.
Thanks
terrible management
Got a decent deal from golfnow for a Sunday afternoon tee time but was not allowed to check in until 7min before my tee time. There was only a single player in front of us but at the second tee, a group of peewee 3 to 5yr old kids cut in front without saying anything. The starter/ranger rode past a few times, never mentioning the group of little kids who were all over the course. Some groups just zigzag all over the course..from no.1 to no.11, etc without any regard to the groups playing in front and no ranger to control them. After nine holes, a foursome of beginners were playing extremely slow at a five hour round pace with at least two empty holes in front of them, but the ranger said that they are not slow even after i complained to him. The condition of the tees and fairways are terrible and course is definitely overpriced and terribly managed; staff unfriendly. I do not recommend this course.
