Big Met Golf Course

About
Big Met Golf Course boasts the title of being Ohio's most-played golf course. Since opening in 1926, it has hosted an impressive 6,000,000 rounds of golf. The course is nestled into the Rock River Valley along gently rolling hills. One of the course's defining features is the dike that helps to hold back the Rocky River, which can be viewed from several holes. Although the golf course as it exists now differs dramatically from the original layout thanks to numerous improvements over the years, including lengthening and remodeling the seventh and eighth holes, it has retained the same playability that has earned its reputation. Big Met Golf Course is not overly challenging but there are a few strategically placed bunkers and tricky rough areas, as well as a moderate amount of length.

Didn’t end up playing. Tried to cancel due to weather and ended up waiting on hold for golf now customer support for over 3 HOURS!!! No luck called ended up dropping. Horrible customer service.
Fun course
Big Met was in great condition for a public course. Challenging layout with average speed greens. Pace of 4.5 hours is only drawback.
Stay frosty
Watch out for flying balls! Pretty good track. Nice and wide open not a lot of spots for trouble. Not much elevation change on fairways and greens were nice and flat. Not difficult to shoot a low score here.
Same pins all weekend
Beautiful course. The only two issues I have with this course are:
Poorly cut cups
Same pins all weekend
Because of the type of grass that this course uses (poa annua) if the pins aren’t cut daily, the rims of the cup become hairy which makes it harder to sink puts. This is very frustrating considering the views of this course.
A good pace of play after....
we asked a ranger if he would ask the octogenerians in front of us if we could play thru. When we finished, they were 3 holes behind us. If you can't walk , you shouldn't play public golf courses.
Good Municipal Parkland Course
Big Met is a solid municipal parkland course that plays along the Rocky River . Course is a wonderful wslk through the Rocky River Reservation that plays along the Rocky River and has no homes on the course. It was built in the 20s by Stanley Thompson and has raised old school greens.
Disappointing Experience
I arrived 20 minutes before tee time to be told there was a 2.5 hour delay due to frost. I cancelled my reservation. I tried to call Golf Now to cancel and get a refund of my $10.00 deposit. I was on hold for 20 minutes then chose the option to have Golf Now call me back. They never did....
Course is still in excellent condition. bunkers have even gotten better. Unfortunately, despite the course being less crowded than usual, got stuck behind two slow foursomes while half the course was empty. This can happen at Big Met.
Great Metroparks golf course
This course ranks among the best public courses in the area. It sits in the Metroparks along Rocky River and is very scenic. The narrow fairways and tight greens makes it a challenging course. Given the amount of play this course gets, it was in great shape.
Stolen Range Finder
Lost my range finder after golfing there, called in and they claimed they had it. When I went in to retrieve it it was no longer there. They either just gave a $300 range finder away to a random person or an employee has it. From my understanding range finders don’t have legs to walk away
Good basic course
The course doesn’t have too many tricks. I liked that you could see what was in front of you, very few blind shots, which is a huge plus when it’s your first time playing the course. The course was in great condition. There were a couple groups that didn’t seem to care who they were slowing up, and golfed on their time even though there would be three groups waiting behind them. A lot of beginners go to this course, which slows things down as well. But overall pace of play wasn’t terrible. I was golfing by myself and course staff had no issues with letting me play alone and play two balls the whole round. Huge credit to the course for that. Overall very good experience and fun easy course to get an affordable round in.
