Fox Hollow Golf Club
About
Fox Hollow Golf Course in Somerville sprawls across acres of rolling woodlands, offering dramatic elevation changes throughout the par-70 layout. Designed by local designer Hal Purdy, the abundant trees and hilly terrain have been deftly incorporated into the course. Originally built in 1967, the golf course was completely redesigned in 2000 to make it more challenging while at the same time improving its playability. Since its renovation, it has garnered a local following but it is still one of the better kept secrets of Somerset County, making it likely that golfers will be able to play the golf course regardless of the day or time. In addition to the course, there is also a practice facility with a grass driving range, a bunkered practice green, and an expansive putting green. One reason Fox Hollow G.C. is a popular choice, besides the enjoyable layout, is the affordability it offers.

Tough for a high handicapper
During CoronaVirus tee times are so spaced out you don’t see anyone in front of or behind you . It’s a beautiful course well maintained tee boxes excellent. Greens fast but perfectly maintained. Just a tough course for someone who sprays there shots . High rough and tight fairways . You miss the fairways you will be hitting off of a slope on many different angles . Some good par 3’s . Very tough par 5’s . Something different to try but I prefer a less slanted close z
Great Job
Course was in phenomenal shape, play was swift, very enjoyable round
great course
enjoyed this course alot..very well kept and in great condition.. i will be playing this course again as soon as i can
Subpar Conditions
I have played Fox Hollow many times before. While it was a perfect weather day, the course conditions left a lot to be desired. The greens still had aerification holes and were sandy in spots. They also did not cut the greens, so they were very slow. You could actually see and feel the blades of grass growing far above the normal height of grass on greens. In addition, the fairways and rough had not been cut. It's almost as if they took the week off. You'd think given this was essentially "opening day" in New Jersey, they would have had the course in tip top shape. That wasn't the case.
They also had the blue tees moved up to the white tees, so everyone was hitting from the same box. Disappointing given the course is already fairly short even from the blues. Given NJ courses have been closed to play for 6 weeks but maintenance has been allowed, I was shocked to see the aerification holes. They should have aerated a month ago in early April while nobody was playing. Pace of play was not an issue given the restrictions on courses by NJ government.
Our group played after 3 PM so we got the discounted rate of $49. That value was okay since it's still a nice course, but I would have been very upset had I played before 3 PM and paid $89 to play a course that wasn't in great shape.
Should have opened the course at 2:30pm
The course was very damp and it rained much of the early afternoon. It was humid and the course conditions where horrible. I am debating if i will ever play the course again.
Sorry that you did not have a great experience today. It has been wet, but we have excellent feedback on the greens for this time of year. I hope you come back and try it again later in the season.

Decent course
Course is in good shape for mid March. Greens are small compared to other courses in the area but are in good shape. Lots of hills and sloped fairways which could prove difficult for beginners.

Poor players
I came as a single and was set up with a threesome. They were very inexperienced golfers, slow, Chinese and didn’t speak English. It was not at all a pleasant round, but nice to be out in the 70° temperature. Next time I will know better and ask to be put with people who do speak English and can play.

Always a great course
We play Fox Hollow on Monday’s when my club is closed. The course remains open all year and the staff is real friendly. Me and a buddy played 18 holes today in less than 3 hours. It does not get any better than this folks for winter golf
Thank you so much for your review! We are so glad to hear you enjoy our course and wonderful staff. We look forward to having you back soon.

Diverse layout.
This is a very challenging, but rewarding golf experience. There is a lot of elevation change, with scenic overlooks of the Watchung Mountains (hills) and you will need to make appropriate club selections to deal with the lifted greens and tee boxes. After playing up several long gradual slopes, you will enjoy coming back down the slopes, and have the chance to hit some really long drives. The course is quite beautiful even on a February day. There are several jogs and doglegs in this track that give risk and reward decisions. Lastly, the greens have mild to moderately challenging breaks but I found them to be fairly true and fun. I will definitely return to this club for another shot at it!
Thank you so much for your 5-star review! We are happy to hear you enjoyed our course. We appreciate your feedback, and hope to see you back again soon.
Excellent course
Staff was extremely friendly. Course was challenging and in great shape, especially for February. Used every club in my bag. Will definitely play again

March Golf in January
Course is a challenging par 70 plenty of variety but nice flow too. Totally walkable. The greens make you earn par. $44 cart included not a bad deal to be playing in mid Jan.

New Years Day Round
Teed up with a husband and wife twosome on New Years Day. There was just one group in front of us, but no excessive waiting and the course was relatively empty. Certain spots on the back 9 were a little big soggy (drainage issue) including a green complex or two. Then again, there was some decent rain. Played a good round and shot a solid 85, which included a birdie on 17. You're gonna use your thinking cap and most of your bag on this course. The wind made some of the holes REALLY long, and that's part of the challenge of the course. Gotta know where to place it off the tee, some of the green complexes are sheltered by trees and bunkers. Will be back again. 5 stars!

Hi, I'm not looking for a refund and never asked for one. The course was playable and the value was fair/okay all things considered. What I said was if I had played earlier and paid the $89 fee, I would have been unhappy. For that amount of money one would expect, at the very least, above average conditions, no matter any extenuating circumstances.
I get that you're frustrated by the restrictions put in place by the NJ governor. They clearly were devised by someone who doesn't play golf and didn't think about the impact on the industry. I think most golfers and people who work in the industry know most of these restrictions are unnecessary.
The bottom line is you have a nice course that I always recommend. It just wasn't in as good of shape on that day as I've seen in the past. That's all.
I'm sorry that the course was not up to your expectations. Normally I abide by the mantra that the customer is always right, but frankly I have to ask "You must be kidding"?
First, we just had three inches of rain Thursday into Friday and could not get the mowers out as normal.
However, more importantly, for the last 6 weeks our normal staff of 20 at the club was down to three people. Think about that for a minute. Do you think for the $49 you paid, we would be able to be fully staffed up with zero dollars coming in, coming out of the winter season in March, before grass even starts to grow? Are you living in the same world as most of us?
Maybe you normally play the county owned courses where taxpayers pay all the bills and they don't have to operate in the real world or at the other end of the spectrum, the member-owned clubs where they charge their members $10k - $20k, kept the staff on the entire time and may still assess their members for the lost revenues.
As for the greens, we had guests play last week who belonged to other clubs such as as Baltusrol, Trump and Mountain Ridge who tracked me down to compliment us on the green conditions. And they pay much more than $49 at their clubs.
Please fee free to call me at 908-586-4361 and I'll Venmo you the $49.
I am sorry for my rancor, but being a business owner forced to close and then reopen at only 25% capacity (mandated by the state - where NY and PA can have foursomes) can put anyone in a bad mood.
