About
Fox Hollow Golf Course in Somerville sprawls across acres of rolling woodlands, offering dramatic elevation changes throughout the par-70 layout. Designed by local designer Hal Purdy, the abundant trees and hilly terrain have been deftly incorporated into the course. Originally built in 1967, the golf course was completely redesigned in 2000 to make it more challenging while at the same time improving its playability. Since its renovation, it has garnered a local following but it is still one of the better kept secrets of Somerset County, making it likely that golfers will be able to play the golf course regardless of the day or time. In addition to the course, there is also a practice facility with a grass driving range, a bunkered practice green, and an expansive putting green. One reason Fox Hollow G.C. is a popular choice, besides the enjoyable layout, is the affordability it offers.

Challenging Layout Multiple Elevations
The course was in great early Spring condition. The bunkers has sand. Greens were in good shape. The course was cart path only. The hilly nature of the course will have you make adjustments for lies and elevations.
Course is not for the novice
Very friendly staff and course conditions were good especially the greens considering the early season weather. This is a course where you need to be an experienced golfer who can hit the ball fairly straight as there are many slopes and ups and downs. Accuracy is much more important than distance. There are 4 or 5 greens where the slope is severe and you have to be below the hole to avoid a 3 putt or worse. Play can be slow 5 hours plus especially when it’s cart path only so take that into account. I will return several times this season and the overall package is better than most in NJ.

Our pace of play averages less than 4 hours most days and we try to patrol it carefully, so hopefully your next round will move along better.

Hidden Gem!
I would highly recommend this course.Few courses offer so much for so little. The staff treated us like we were members of the club and the course itself is phenomenal. The day we played the greens were running at a 10 on the stimp which made putting quite the challenge. The layout is up down and around hills, valleys and streams. This meant strategy not brute strength was going to win the day. The conditions from the tee boxes, fairways and greens were all perfectly kept. Kudos to the superintendent for the work they have done. Not many courses look this good this early in the season. I will definitely be heading back to Fox Hollow sooner rather than later!

Big Surprise
First time at this course realy liked the layout but the big surprise were the greens considering we played end of March they were fast & true

Tee time
Booked a 12:10 thru golf now. Huge line on the first tee. Apparently some people started on the 4th hole and were coming around to play the first 3 holes. Staff assured us that the golf course would be clear after the 3rd hole. Finally teed off at 12:50 and took 5hrs to play 18. Had to let a group play thru at the turn because the hot dogs (we ordered on 9th tee) took 20mn to prepare. Terrible experience and will not be returning.

Very good conditions
NJ has been deluged with rain throughout the winter. This has made it difficult for the Greens Keepers. But this course was in very good shape. Because of the wet you did not get much roll-out of your ball. Nor were the greens as fast as they usually are. But this is Mother Nature's fault, not the course.
Thanks. We are drying out and I've been told that the greens are the best they have been for March. We are rolling them daily and only have mowed one so far, but with this warm spell (finally) they will be mowed daily from here on out.

Another great day of golf at Fox Hollow.
The course was in great condition on this beautiful day.
The only downside was that the foursome in front of us was painfully slow. Usually play the round in about 3 1/2 hours and today was closer to 5 hours.

Course was wet in spots but generally in good conditions Be prepared for hills if you like a flat course you won’t like this one Water in play on several holes makes it interesting I will play here again

Well worth the trip
This course deserves all the good reviews it received.
The layout and condition for this time of year is excellent. The staff we met were all really friendly.
Would like to play it again in better and warmer conditions but we all enjoyed the day.
It’s a good challenging walk if you choose to and a great price on GN.

WET!
Surprised it was open after an inch+ of rain the day before. It was cart path only (CPO), to be expected.
It was very playable other than the casual water.
No rakes for the bunkers, very interesting. Best part, only $40 to ride.
one of the best
I have played this course many times this year and even though they just aerated and had some coding on the green they still were fasting amp true. I recommend this course that all types of players you will really enjoy it The staff here is very friendly and helpful
