Fox Hollow Golf Club
About
Fox Hollow Golf Course in Somerville sprawls across acres of rolling woodlands, offering dramatic elevation changes throughout the par-70 layout. Designed by local designer Hal Purdy, the abundant trees and hilly terrain have been deftly incorporated into the course. Originally built in 1967, the golf course was completely redesigned in 2000 to make it more challenging while at the same time improving its playability. Since its renovation, it has garnered a local following but it is still one of the better kept secrets of Somerset County, making it likely that golfers will be able to play the golf course regardless of the day or time. In addition to the course, there is also a practice facility with a grass driving range, a bunkered practice green, and an expansive putting green. One reason Fox Hollow G.C. is a popular choice, besides the enjoyable layout, is the affordability it offers.

Good Course to hone your game.
If you love a mountain course, this is one that you will come back for more. It is challenging but fair, use of range finder with slope technology will help very much on those par 3s.
I plan to take my buddies here more....
Really fun track
Played here the Friday prior, and decided to go back a week later. Good conditions all around, greens very receptive rolled well, and the bunkers were in prime condition which I feel is rare for any pubbies I play. Pace of play stunk a bit but that was just due to a group or two in front slacking. I'm just a fan of a course that's in good shape and tests your game, and fox fits the bill. All in all no complaints I'd play here any day.
Great NJ Course!
I saw good reviews regarding Fox Hollow and decided to give it a try for a weekday
golf getaway from NYC. I LOVED the course layout and conditions were excellent. The rough was thick, which was good and bad, as it kept my ball from running into the woods on errant shots, but also made it challenging to get out of it. It wasn't so long that I lost any balls that I should have found, however. Lots of hills to make things interesting and the greens ran very true. Definitely will be going back!
Country Club Conditions
I thought I was playing a private club. Conditions were excellent throughout. We were the only ones on the course so pace of play was not an issue. Maybe because they raised the green fees, they are getting less play. $68 to ride on a weekday is a little on the high side. No senior discount either.
Fox Hollow is a good course
Definitely a good course with some challenging holes. Better than the typical public course but far short of private (Fox Hollow is semi-private).
Excellent Layout, Well Conditioned
Played on a Wednesday, afternoon round. Nobody behind or ahead of us. Conditions were superb, course was very well maintained.
Liked it enough to join as a weekday member.
Although it is a par 70 with additional par 3's, all of the par 3's are extremely difficult. Also it has only about 2 flat putting surfaces since the rest are sloped and/or have ridges.
Great Time at Fox Hollow
This was my first time at FHGC. Very nice course with great holes. Some of the holes on the back nine at the higher elevation had views and holes that could have been the Forest Course at Fiddler's ELbow CC. Great pace of play. The burger in the grille room was one of the best I've had at a golf course ever. Don't get caught in 6 hr rounds at the county courses, this is a hidden secret - they do almost no advertising.
hidden gem
Had a small group of 13 people, every one had a great time and enjoyed the course. deep rough, hopefully due to a fair amount of rain previous few days. cart path only but not a big deal. very challenging layout especially for seeing it for first time. greens were aerated but with pin hole spkes but still rolled true and fast, hate to see how quick they are in the middle of summer.
after round dinner and drinks in their restaurant, attendents were friendly helpful and attentive. A+ on the food, everyone enjoyed their meal.
if you love mountain golf, ie. lots of ups and downs this is for you. I plan on going back maybe as much as once a month. i like variety but also like this course.
Great condition For early March
We played Fox Hollow in February and now March. For winter play the course is in great shape. Staff is friendly.
Not bad
First warm day in a while so very crowded. Hurt pace of play. Conditions a little wet. Overall not bad. Got there early to practice putting and chipping but practice green was closed for the winter. With deal from golf now, value was good. Would recommend to others.
Conditions great for February in NJ
My buddy and I had a great time at Fox Hollow. We had not played here in many years and the conditions for playing in February were excellent. We took advantage of a warmer day and enjoyed it. The people who go out early love to play quickly, so the pace was wonderful.
Good Off-Season Course
Course was in good shape and very playable; no temporary greens.
Every Hole a Challenge
Extreme slope of the greens made it very hard to putt.
good layout...good test
read some mediocre reviews. found the greens in good shape, no issues with divots because there was plenty of fill. good test of golf with hard holes and some scoring holes. hope this course makes it in these tough times.
Good layout with ball placement key for 2nd shot
First time playing this course. Would recommend playing to friends will play this course again. Good layout, course was in good shape could use better maintenence on divots. Challenging course need to know where to put the ball for a better 2nd shot.
