Fox Hollow Golf Club
About
Fox Hollow Golf Course in Somerville sprawls across acres of rolling woodlands, offering dramatic elevation changes throughout the par-70 layout. Designed by local designer Hal Purdy, the abundant trees and hilly terrain have been deftly incorporated into the course. Originally built in 1967, the golf course was completely redesigned in 2000 to make it more challenging while at the same time improving its playability. Since its renovation, it has garnered a local following but it is still one of the better kept secrets of Somerset County, making it likely that golfers will be able to play the golf course regardless of the day or time. In addition to the course, there is also a practice facility with a grass driving range, a bunkered practice green, and an expansive putting green. One reason Fox Hollow G.C. is a popular choice, besides the enjoyable layout, is the affordability it offers.

Feb. golf in NJ.
Well I can’t complain about anything. I was playing golf in NJ in February. Actually I was pleasantly surprised of the condition of course after a Nor-Easter . Only one hole on back nine was really wet. Nice lay out , each hole had it’s own nuances. Definite replay once season is truly underway here in Northeast.
Very challenging
Lat time I played here was a few years ago. Didn't realize the course was this challenging and fun. It's all up and down hills. Regret walking. Condition was surprisingly good for off season. Definitely coming back.
Best Kept Secret
I often play at the many private clubs in the area as guests of others, but when looking for a public course in central NJ this course is a great choice, with better holes and conditions than some fo the privates I play. The pace of play is good, unlike most of the other public and county courses, and the staff treats you like a member for the day at a great value.
Excellent greens, fairways and bunkers despite playing on the first day after the snowmelt this winter. The holes are challenging and it has some of the best visual holes in NJ. #4, #7, #8, #13, #17 were especially great and #18 over water was a great way to wrap it up. All-in-all a great experience in under 4 hours. I look forward to the spring and coming back.
1st time at Fox Hollow
I took a 40 minute drive to play Fox Hollow and I wish the course was closer because I could see myself playing here on a regular basis. The guy, Evan, in the Pro Shop welcomed me and gave me a quick rundown of the course and even a suggestion on clubs to hit on certain holes.
Well kept course and interesting layout. There might be some who are taken back by the 9th and 18th holes being par 3’s but it wasn’t a problem for me at all. From the White tees it can play short at times but you still have to make shots.
I will be back many times for certain.
always spot on
great place, only suggestion ,some added range markers and update flag stick to work with Range finders,
Great course, will definitely be back
This was my first time playing Fox Hollow after hearing a lot about it from other golfers. I had high expectations, and it absolutely delivered. Beautiful grass range, nice practice green (although not much like the greens on the course). The course itself was excellent as well, and very challenging.
Elevation changes all day, with a few blind shots. The only time you'll play a shot with an even lie is from the fairway, so try not to miss. The uneven lies elsewhere make for a lot of tough shots. Learned that lesson the hard way all day long. Greens rolled beautifully, but were extremely difficult. They were very fast and severely undulating. Had a 12 ft uphill putt on the Par 3 10th that came up a foot short, and rolled back down the same line at least 6 ft.
Extremely fun and challenging course, phenomenal facility, and I'm very excited to come back and try my luck a second time.
Fantastic course at an amazing hot deal price !
Played this course before on a hot deal because I heard about it from 2 strangers I played another course with before - they raved about it. Being that it's a bit over an hour to get there, I waited for a hot deal, because ya never know and I didn't want to spend the $99+ to try it out. Turns out it's phenomenal and for the $49 hot deal price it's one of the best deals I've ever gotten through Golfnow - thanks and please put it on there more !!
Great Day at Unknown Gem
I drive by this course all the time and always thought it was private and not open to the public. I finally played it and it was as if it was private - no crowds, excellent turf conditions, great pace of play and a friendly staff. The course has great holes and elevation changes. When the fall foliage comes it will be even more spectacular. I'll skip the weekend crowds and 5+ hour rounds at the Somerset County courses, like Neshanic or Heron Glen and make this my new golf home
Fun layout and casual atmosphere.
Fox hollow never disappoints. The course is always in solid shape. No pace of play issues. And great service.
Good Course to hone your game.
If you love a mountain course, this is one that you will come back for more. It is challenging but fair, use of range finder with slope technology will help very much on those par 3s.
I plan to take my buddies here more....
Really fun track
Played here the Friday prior, and decided to go back a week later. Good conditions all around, greens very receptive rolled well, and the bunkers were in prime condition which I feel is rare for any pubbies I play. Pace of play stunk a bit but that was just due to a group or two in front slacking. I'm just a fan of a course that's in good shape and tests your game, and fox fits the bill. All in all no complaints I'd play here any day.
Great NJ Course!
I saw good reviews regarding Fox Hollow and decided to give it a try for a weekday
golf getaway from NYC. I LOVED the course layout and conditions were excellent. The rough was thick, which was good and bad, as it kept my ball from running into the woods on errant shots, but also made it challenging to get out of it. It wasn't so long that I lost any balls that I should have found, however. Lots of hills to make things interesting and the greens ran very true. Definitely will be going back!
Country Club Conditions
I thought I was playing a private club. Conditions were excellent throughout. We were the only ones on the course so pace of play was not an issue. Maybe because they raised the green fees, they are getting less play. $68 to ride on a weekday is a little on the high side. No senior discount either.
Fox Hollow is a good course
Definitely a good course with some challenging holes. Better than the typical public course but far short of private (Fox Hollow is semi-private).
Excellent Layout, Well Conditioned
Played on a Wednesday, afternoon round. Nobody behind or ahead of us. Conditions were superb, course was very well maintained.
Liked it enough to join as a weekday member.
