Fox Hollow Golf Club
About
Fox Hollow Golf Course in Somerville sprawls across acres of rolling woodlands, offering dramatic elevation changes throughout the par-70 layout. Designed by local designer Hal Purdy, the abundant trees and hilly terrain have been deftly incorporated into the course. Originally built in 1967, the golf course was completely redesigned in 2000 to make it more challenging while at the same time improving its playability. Since its renovation, it has garnered a local following but it is still one of the better kept secrets of Somerset County, making it likely that golfers will be able to play the golf course regardless of the day or time. In addition to the course, there is also a practice facility with a grass driving range, a bunkered practice green, and an expansive putting green. One reason Fox Hollow G.C. is a popular choice, besides the enjoyable layout, is the affordability it offers.

Great condition For early March
We played Fox Hollow in February and now March. For winter play the course is in great shape. Staff is friendly.
Not bad
First warm day in a while so very crowded. Hurt pace of play. Conditions a little wet. Overall not bad. Got there early to practice putting and chipping but practice green was closed for the winter. With deal from golf now, value was good. Would recommend to others.
Conditions great for February in NJ
My buddy and I had a great time at Fox Hollow. We had not played here in many years and the conditions for playing in February were excellent. We took advantage of a warmer day and enjoyed it. The people who go out early love to play quickly, so the pace was wonderful.
Good Off-Season Course
Course was in good shape and very playable; no temporary greens.
Every Hole a Challenge
Extreme slope of the greens made it very hard to putt.
good layout...good test
read some mediocre reviews. found the greens in good shape, no issues with divots because there was plenty of fill. good test of golf with hard holes and some scoring holes. hope this course makes it in these tough times.
Good layout with ball placement key for 2nd shot
First time playing this course. Would recommend playing to friends will play this course again. Good layout, course was in good shape could use better maintenence on divots. Challenging course need to know where to put the ball for a better 2nd shot.
The Members Failed
This was a private club now open to others. They charged $60 for a round with a cart... a price that gets us on the best courses in the area. The fairways were a mess, divots everywhere many unfilled, They did not tell us the greens had been aerated so we suffered the bumps and vagaries of greens full of holes
No help with the bags on arrival or departure. No starter, only pro shop cashier. As a result of all this we did not stray for lunch
Ok course. Probably would not play again
This is a pretty course. Lots of elevation changes. It had rained the night before and it was still soggy. The greens were slower than I would expect and some were pretty beat up...like many golfers who play there don't repair their ball marks. They have no prepared food at the turn and no water coolers on course. Beer cart came around often. Course was just OK. I would t go out of my to play there again.
Call Ahead
I like this course. It is challenging and in very good condition. Just call to make sure there are no outings.
They had a shotgun start on the back nine and sent us off the front. needless to say we never finished are round.
Good course
Pros: Great conditions overall. Tee boxes were very good. Fairways were great. Bunkers were very good and full of sand. Greens were good, little on the fast side but rolled true. Rough was thick but not unfair (there should be a penalty for missing the fairway;) Very nice pro shop.
Cons: Carts could use an update, although they were electric which was nice. Driving range was a little weird, as it is straight uphill and the balls could use an update too. Range balls also scattered the 15th fairway, so just make sure you hit the right ball there.
Overall, I had a very good experience at Fox Hollow for my first time playing. We played in 3.5 hrs which is awesome. I would definetly play again.
Hidden Gem
Fox Hollow is classified as a semi private golf course but the conditions are that of an exclusive club. The greens, fairways, traps and tee boxes are in superb condition. There are other public courses in NJ but none match the Fox Hollow standards!
This course has a great layout
Nice course. Great views. In great shape. No 2 holes are alike. Up and down hills as well as flat. Challenging and fun. Not over-crowded. What else can I say?
3 HR ROUND!
We played as a twosome on MDW Sunday. Not sure if it was the holiday but no one was on the course and played at a leisurely pace and still breezed through in just over 3 hours. The conditions of the course were great and the greens rolled true. They also had an all-grass range but didn't have time to use it. It's a bit of a drive from NYC but think I'll definitely try to make it back again in the summer.
Good Experience
First time here. Still early in the season so conditions probably better when the grass starts growing again.
Liked layout, a little hilly but it works. Driving range a big plus.
Will come back.
good golf course
we (4some) play this course first time, this course is maintained very well, field way is nice, and the green is fast and difficult, layout is so special compare to other courses we play, it's a difficult course, if you get off the field way, usually you need to add one more shot to get off those hills, sands and trees.
but overall, we enjoy the play, a very good experience playing there.
Great Course
Started this season at Fox Hollow and I am happy I did it! From their friendly staff to rolling greens and giant fairways, this course is all-around a great time!
Bring your putting skill
Course is in great shape thanks to warm winter weather. Fairways are in good shape. Even though greens are little beat up still in good shape considering it's end of December. Many greens are small and challenging due to pin placement being mostly located in slope angle. Bring your sharp eyes and putting skill to avoid 3 putts. Played only twice but, will come back for more if GolfNow continues to offer great hot deal!!
Decent layout, greens in poor condition
It is always difficult to judge a golf course during the winter season, because conditions will never be optimal. The fairways and tee boxes were in fairly decent condition, but the greens were kind of embarrassing. There was debris, goose droppings, anthills, etc. that made every putt an adventure. It was too wet to cut the greens and that is understandable. No attempt was made to clean off the greens. This course has an interesting layout with 5 or 6 really interesting holes. Other holes appear to be shoe-horned onto the property. Both nines finish with a par 3, which is highly unusual, but interesting for betting purposes. I would play the course again, but would suggest that the greens get some more TLC in the future.
