Fox Hollow Golf Club
About
Fox Hollow Golf Course in Somerville sprawls across acres of rolling woodlands, offering dramatic elevation changes throughout the par-70 layout. Designed by local designer Hal Purdy, the abundant trees and hilly terrain have been deftly incorporated into the course. Originally built in 1967, the golf course was completely redesigned in 2000 to make it more challenging while at the same time improving its playability. Since its renovation, it has garnered a local following but it is still one of the better kept secrets of Somerset County, making it likely that golfers will be able to play the golf course regardless of the day or time. In addition to the course, there is also a practice facility with a grass driving range, a bunkered practice green, and an expansive putting green. One reason Fox Hollow G.C. is a popular choice, besides the enjoyable layout, is the affordability it offers.

Deep rough, good luck finding your ball
This course has an interesting and sometimes challenging layout, with many elevation changes. There are a number of times that require a blind shot, with only the top of the flag in view. If you miss the green, it is a challenge to find your ball in the tall rough. The same is true if you miss the fairway.
We were playing in early May, so it is difficult for the maintenance crew to keep the rough very short, but it was a bit too much for this 15 handicap golfer.
Good but
Overall condition and course Layout is good as usual. Green ls were not as good as usual since still recovering from aeration. Rolls bumpy. Hopefully greens are good as a month ago next time.
Fox Hollow April 24 2025
Aerated greens and 5th hole closed due to water main break. Mostly open fairways, hilly with many sloping lies. Significant bunkering and both nines close with a par three over water. Helpful, friendly staff. Would eagerly play again.
Nice, but caveat emptor
Course is in good shape, but would have liked to know that the 5th hole was not available AND the greens were aerated (not puttable). GolfNow felt like “bait and switch” with no clue about current course conditions.
Good conditions for late march. Greens were surprisingly quick. Staff was excellent.
Gimmick greens
Greens were like playing mini golf, no shot if you were above the hole. They fit 18 holes in a small foot print.
Arrived early to work on some new clubs, practice facility was too far to walk and not enough carts. Grass range was a plus. I guess they can get $80 in that neck of the woods but the extra $20 else where is a far better experience.
Challenging layout
Course is always good, staff is very nice (Bill). Although its a bit early the Greens were still a little rough.
Cold day round
It was a cold morning round. The course was in great shape and condition considering it's March. Fun day overall. Thanks for being open to play.
First play of the year
We played for the first time this year. The course was in great shape considering it is March 16. Pace of play was fine finished in 4 hrs. We play again soon.
I like this layout.
Beautiful December afternoon.
55° softe breeze good pace of play
Nice Challenge
Fox Hollow is a great course that I like to frequent. For playing an the end of November the course was in great shape (tee boxes were excellent). Was wide open so pace of play was not an issue.

PS, and we lowered the rate on our website. Again, it's best to book directly with the golf course.
We strongly urge people to book through our website since we post the latest conditions, such as the greens aeration last week. We don't control what third-party resellers, such as GN, may list. It's always better to book directly. The 5th hole construction issue just happened and is being fixed this morning, we offered people to play extra holes if they wanted w/o charge. If the pro shop did not sahre that with you please let me know. Customer satisfaction is our first priority. You can email me at matt@mstargolf.com (FHGC owner). Thanks.
