Fox Hollow Golf Club
About
Fox Hollow Golf Course in Somerville sprawls across acres of rolling woodlands, offering dramatic elevation changes throughout the par-70 layout. Designed by local designer Hal Purdy, the abundant trees and hilly terrain have been deftly incorporated into the course. Originally built in 1967, the golf course was completely redesigned in 2000 to make it more challenging while at the same time improving its playability. Since its renovation, it has garnered a local following but it is still one of the better kept secrets of Somerset County, making it likely that golfers will be able to play the golf course regardless of the day or time. In addition to the course, there is also a practice facility with a grass driving range, a bunkered practice green, and an expansive putting green. One reason Fox Hollow G.C. is a popular choice, besides the enjoyable layout, is the affordability it offers.

Tough greens
Greens are really fast and difficult to read. They slope back to front on most of them, if you’re above the hole you basically have to tap it or it’s going 10ft past the hole. Other than that it’s a cool layout with a lot of elevation change. Fairways are narrow but it’s not going to kill you if you miss them.
Fun day and challenging beautiful course
This course has a very nice lay out and it;s a beautiful course with thick rough.
The greens and putting was very challenging with the pin locations and even more so than Crystal Springs and Trump National. If you have to put downhill, good luck, the ball keeps rolling and rolling with a slight tap and your second put is often longer than your first put. It is better to be in the front of the green than the back or above the pin. That is generally the case but even more so on this course. I got on the greens in two on most holes but the puts were very difficult. I really enjoyed the challenge and I can't wait to play there again .I learned things about putting that I have not learned on other greens that will make me a better player.
Tough course
Bunkers were rock hard
Rough was very deep And the greens were
very fast and hilly. Lots of run off didn’t seem like they water them
Enjoyable round
Course was lush and in great shape even with all the recent rain. The rough was brutal, so it made the round a bit slow. But overall an ejoyable round on a challenging enough golf course where I had to use every club in the bag.
Slowest round of my life
Don’t waste your time here…longest round of my life.
Fox Hollow
Tee time was delayed by 30 minutes on Memorial Day. Every pin position was on a ridge. Massive backup took 5 hours to play 18. Really enjoyed playing this course in the past but this will be the last time I come.
5 hour round
Beautiful course. Very slow play, a wait on every hole. The starter said they started the day 10 minutes behind?? The fairways and greens in great shape but the rough was ridiculous! Way too tall. Balls everywhere because no one could find their balls! All in all it was a beautiful sunny day and enjoyable, but would think twice about playing here again.
Thanks for your feedback. After 5 days of rain the rough got ahead of us that week until we could get the mowers on it, which also slowed play. Please give us another chance. It's hard when Mother Nature is your partner, we can't control everything as desired, I'm sure other courses in our region had the same issue.
Great
Fox Hollow is a great course, and don’t let the distance fool you. Nice challenging course. Must hit fairways. Thick unforgiving rough. Fast greens. Great afternoon overall.
Fox Hollow
Beautiful setting. Good course design, though the rough, elevation changes, and fast greens are more challenging than the course slopes and ratings suggest. Bunkers aren’t well maintained, need to be raked very heavily to soften up the sand. Course personnel are more focused on getting players out quickly, even before their tee times, rather than making sure everyone has a quality experience.
Deep rough, good luck finding your ball
This course has an interesting and sometimes challenging layout, with many elevation changes. There are a number of times that require a blind shot, with only the top of the flag in view. If you miss the green, it is a challenge to find your ball in the tall rough. The same is true if you miss the fairway.
We were playing in early May, so it is difficult for the maintenance crew to keep the rough very short, but it was a bit too much for this 15 handicap golfer.
Good but
Overall condition and course Layout is good as usual. Green ls were not as good as usual since still recovering from aeration. Rolls bumpy. Hopefully greens are good as a month ago next time.
Fox Hollow April 24 2025
Aerated greens and 5th hole closed due to water main break. Mostly open fairways, hilly with many sloping lies. Significant bunkering and both nines close with a par three over water. Helpful, friendly staff. Would eagerly play again.
Nice, but caveat emptor
Course is in good shape, but would have liked to know that the 5th hole was not available AND the greens were aerated (not puttable). GolfNow felt like “bait and switch” with no clue about current course conditions.
PS, and we lowered the rate on our website. Again, it's best to book directly with the golf course.
We strongly urge people to book through our website since we post the latest conditions, such as the greens aeration last week. We don't control what third-party resellers, such as GN, may list. It's always better to book directly. The 5th hole construction issue just happened and is being fixed this morning, we offered people to play extra holes if they wanted w/o charge. If the pro shop did not sahre that with you please let me know. Customer satisfaction is our first priority. You can email me at matt@mstargolf.com (FHGC owner). Thanks.

We are sorry that your round did not live up to your usual experience. We work hard to enforce 14 minutes per hole, but especially holidays can be challenging. Our normal pace daily is 4:15 and often faster than that. Thanks you for the feedback on the pin placement. We had not heard that from anyone else and will ensure the setup crew is mindful of that going forward.
