ALWAYS UNDER CONSTRUCTION
When I tell you this is one of the best course layouts in New Jersey, I’m not exaggerating. This course has so much potential but they can’t ever seem to have everything under control. Don’t play here unless you want 12 300 yard par 4’s. Tee boxes are under construction and look purer than most private clubs. No reason they should be closed. It’s the middle of April and I can’t even post a score there. That’s a huge problem. Greens were aerated on the back 9 but not the front? They punched them on the same day apparently.
Sad to see such a good track not being utilized the way it should be. Ownership prioritized their club house before the golf course. Massive problem.
Course was in terrible shape!
To be charged $50 per person for the shape the course was in is a crime. No mention that all of the tee boxes were under construction, hole nine was not a hole at all. The par three's were so far up a full pitching wedge would sail the green. It was also blatantly obvious that the greens had been very recently been air rated, so the greens were less than stellar. Some communication from that staff would have been nice. The course was so short my father and I played all 17 holes in two hours...The course shape was terrible and a more conducive price for that slope would have been $25 at best.
I have played Pinlands close to 25-30 times in the past three years and this was the worst I have ever seen it or any course frankly. After that experience, I don't know if we will play there again.
Course under repair
Course will be outstanding in a few months. There was no pr round information that all tees were temporary and moved WAY up. Had we known we would have played elsewhere. Had a problem with workers ithat made an issue of moving their vehicle when we needed to make a shot. Not a good day.
Under construction
Not one tee box was playable. all recently sodded
Great for future play, but shouldn’t have to pay full price when you’re basically playing from a fairway lie at every tee
Expensive
We were charged $80 full price and every tee box was under repair and the temporary tee box was 100 yards forward.
Should warn of extensive course construction
This course resembles a construction site, yet there's no notice when making tee time. Several holes had temporary greens and temporary tee boxes. The good news is they're working to vastly improve quality, which takes time. However, it is simple respect to notify would-be players that the course is under massive construction.
Temp tees, temp greens
I'd have been Ok with spending a few bucks here for a Sunday at 1 PM on any given day because I've played here before and it is a terrific course.
However I think 14 of the 18 holes on this day had either moved up temp tees, or a false temp green or both. It is essentially totally under repair and is in all intents and purposes a glorified par 3 course.
And the greens that are open? Aerated. I know this is the season, but the course should be up front about the conditions. When I asked a worker as I walked up how the course is, I got 'Fine, good shape.' Maybe the kid thought I meant somewhere else.
Save your money and go to a Par 3 executive course, at least until this is fixed up (in 2024 maybe it may all be grown in).
Renovations
I truly believe your course will be amazing in the future.
Looks like your doing a lot of good things, but my last play I didn’t enjoy. To many holes were cut back and temporary greens. My thought was that greens fees could have been considered for theses
Temporary conditions..
Good luck in all that your trying to improve..
Caution- course Reno
The few greens that are open run fast. You pay almost full rate and atleast half the tee boxes and greens are currently moved.. I hope come April the course is finished!
Normally I like this course very much. Unfortunately there was a lot of construction and repair on this day. A necessary evil I understand but it did affect the quality of the day. Would have been helpful to know in advance. Probably would have played anyway.
Conditions vs price
New owners making major improvements. I got notified the day before playing that there would be six temporary greens and every tee box temporary. I feel right now the cost to play there is too high for what you are getting. It has been a really mild winter and I know they are getting a very high volume of players for this time of year.
Back after 40 years
I played again after 40 years because of the good things I've heard. The course always had a good classic layout. The new owners are pouring a ton of money into the course and it shows. I'll be back when it gets warmer.
PS the 19th hole food is fantastic.
Dan’s thoughts
Look, every time we play golf and the day is as nice as it was on 2/10/23, it’s perfect. But we wish we would have been informed about the redos of all the tee boxes and greens being done all at once, either at check in or by the starter. The food, drinks, and service afterwards surely made up for it. We had a terrific day. Dan Barclay
Most holes were shortened by up to 100 years to temporary tee boxes that were not at all flat. temporary greens as well... Not a good experience!
