Sugar Isle Golf Course
About
Sugar Isle Golf Course was designed by Jack Kidwell, a familiar name among southern Ohio golf courses. Water is a prominent feature of the course, Kidwell incorporated it on more than half of the holes. Some 20 white sand bunkers are strategically placed throughout the layout, providing a scenic contrast to the water and lush greens. For an added challenge, many of the fairways are lined with mature trees although there is some room for error, which makes them more accessible. It is a course that will make you think but it is not too intimidating for beginners. The versatility makes it popular for outings and tournaments. Sugar Isle has even hosted the area's high school programs for more than 30 years. In addition to the golf course, there is also a driving range and large putting green.

The course was much improved from last year
The staff member told us when checking in that we would see a noticeable difference in the course. The greens were very good and rolled true. Much attention had been given to the fairways and the rough. Overall the course had been cleaned up since I last played the course last year. It was the first time to play the course for two of our foursome and they want to go back.
I would recommend you consider the course if you haven't played it this year.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.
One of my favorite courses
Sugar Isle is one of my favorite courses. If you play smart you can score low here. Greens are a challenge, but fun, and if you 1 putt from more than 5 feet, you walk away feeling good. Decent pro shop for the area.
Fun Course to Play
The course was in excellent condition in spite of the severe storms that traveled through the area two days earlier. Several of the greens had multiple tiers that rewarded players that could hit accurate shots into greens. Also, the course contained several water holes that required the golfer to control tee and fairway shots. Greenside bunkers protected several greens. I especially like the 18th green (island green) as it rewarded the golfer who hits accurate iron tee shots.
Very Nice!
Sugar Isle is a very nice course! It had been several years since last time I played it and almost forgot how good it was. Each hole is unique and very little redundancy. You won't be disappointed!
Good course
Course in good shape . Started on hole ten for some reason. It is always better to end your day playing the Island par 3 no. 18 .
Nice Course
Great value, greens in nice condition, rough was a little long.
Like it alot
I'm a avid golfer. I play the different courses on the weekends. This I must say is in my top 5 courses that I have played. The fairways was good. Greens tough to judge. This course makes u think on some shots and some u have to be spot on. Rough is deep and some spots are hard if u hit there. But the overall hard and challenging course & I love that in a course.
Nice course
Nice course. Very wide open if you prefer playing from the fairways. The trees don't really give you any help when you hit those as well. Pace was very slow the day I was there. It took 5 1/2 hours to play 18. Overall, it's a really nice course to play for the money
Fun course
Always enjoy playing. Challenging but not too challenging. We'll maintained. Friendly staff. Play this course 4 or 5 times a year.
Coure conditions
It was a very pleasant experience. My 3 some played in about 3 hours. One set of 2 walkers in front of us but they let us play through after following them for 2 holes. Overall, I would recommend this course.
Ok for a quick round
Greens had been aerated earlier in season and were still somewhat bumpy . Best part of the round was the two of is played in 2 1/2 hours
fairly nice
Course was in good shape considering all the rain from Thursday, greens soft but rolled good, rough thick but not to deep.
Only played 9 due to slow pace of play
We showed up and they sent us off the back with another pair. In front of us they sent off a bacholer party that was 3 or 4 foursomes. As we started the staff said they were aware and would be on the group to keep up pace of play. That did not occur as it took 3 hours to play 9. We had to wait several minutes after every shot. The "drunk fest" as the staff put it was not playing ready golf and we only saw 1 ranger the entire time we were out there. Nothing was said about pace of play to them. We ended up walking off after playing 9 since we did not budget 6 hours to play.
Terrible Condition
Drainage was awful. Fairways and rough were the same length. Greens not taken care of at all. Lots of pitch marks unattended too. Bunkers were full of rocks. Would not recommend or play again. Tee boxes are not level either.
Back to my roots
It was great playing back in Ohio where I grew up. The course was just as I remembered it 6 years ago.
Sugar Isle
The course was great but the golf cart stopped a few times.
told the Pro Shop it needed some attention...
Quirky and fun but out of the way.
I played this course more frequently in the past. They used to specialize in outings. It's odd in that you go through a narrow tunnel to access the first four holes. Maintenance has suffered a bit from the economic slump, carts and paths are a bit rough, but everything works and the greens are surprisingly good. Fairways are generous. It's surrounded by cornfields, but the views are pretty good this fall, and there are lots of trees. Not a lot of elevation changes. Back is unique with consecutive par 5s and concludes with a short par 3 island green. It's a fun course and good value if you don't mind a little drive.
good for the price
Course was in good shape. Would not pay more than what I did. They do not enforce pace of play
Worth the drive.
Great course, great layout. A mixture of long and short holes and good use of water. 18th hole is an island green and a great way to finish. The fairways are a bit rough and since we had a good summer, I would have expected them to be better.
