Sugar Isle Golf Course
About
Sugar Isle Golf Course was designed by Jack Kidwell, a familiar name among southern Ohio golf courses. Water is a prominent feature of the course, Kidwell incorporated it on more than half of the holes. Some 20 white sand bunkers are strategically placed throughout the layout, providing a scenic contrast to the water and lush greens. For an added challenge, many of the fairways are lined with mature trees although there is some room for error, which makes them more accessible. It is a course that will make you think but it is not too intimidating for beginners. The versatility makes it popular for outings and tournaments. Sugar Isle has even hosted the area's high school programs for more than 30 years. In addition to the golf course, there is also a driving range and large putting green.

Back to my roots
It was great playing back in Ohio where I grew up. The course was just as I remembered it 6 years ago.
Sugar Isle
The course was great but the golf cart stopped a few times.
told the Pro Shop it needed some attention...
Quirky and fun but out of the way.
I played this course more frequently in the past. They used to specialize in outings. It's odd in that you go through a narrow tunnel to access the first four holes. Maintenance has suffered a bit from the economic slump, carts and paths are a bit rough, but everything works and the greens are surprisingly good. Fairways are generous. It's surrounded by cornfields, but the views are pretty good this fall, and there are lots of trees. Not a lot of elevation changes. Back is unique with consecutive par 5s and concludes with a short par 3 island green. It's a fun course and good value if you don't mind a little drive.
good for the price
Course was in good shape. Would not pay more than what I did. They do not enforce pace of play
Worth the drive.
Great course, great layout. A mixture of long and short holes and good use of water. 18th hole is an island green and a great way to finish. The fairways are a bit rough and since we had a good summer, I would have expected them to be better.
I loved how open the course was.
i didn't have any problem with the course. The algae on all the water wasn't the greatest to look at though. My main issue is with how long it took to play. It took us 5 and a half hours to play and had a wait on virtually every hole. Don't know what the problem was because there was hardly anyone there when we were finished.
Good Course
I hate to provide negative reviews, but the course needed a lot of attention. A group of us played this course last year and it was in great shape. We were expecting the same this time but that was not the case. The tee boxes on several holes were so bad that we went well behind the markers to find a spot well enough to hit from. The fairways were also in need of attention. The greens were in good shape. Our group plays together every week and we agreed that this course was the the worst so far. I would still recommend this course even with the deficiencies listed above. Number 18 is a memorable hole.
Average Course I do not need to play again.
Let’s just say my day did not start as planned here. I was a single that I had purchased the evening before on GolfNow. When I arrived at the course, the worker in the Pro Shop told me that they were going to have trouble fitting me in since the threesome I had originally been paired with as bringing a fourth. I was not happy. Don’t sell something if you cannot deliver! He told me to just go out to the Starter and see if he could fit me in somewhere. Luckily for me, and for them, a group showed up who was missing a fourth, so I was able to jump in with them – and they were acceptable to this. I finally got off about 8am when I was originally supposed to be off @ 7:40. The course was open and easy driving with a few water hazards sprinkled around. The fairways needed some attention. The greens were in good shape but shaggy and slow. I’m glad this was a Hot Deal through GolfNow. If I had to pay full price I would have been greatly disappointed. I more than likely will not return to play here again – unless it is a free round and someone else is picking up the bill. One more thing, no water on the course for drinking – no beverage cart – there is a soda machine on 13 Tee Box that will get you for $2 per bottle of soda.
Needs Rangers/Starters
Great course.. pace of play could have been improved by the use of rangers
Open layout
The course is good for all levels. Wide open tee shots on most holes. Greens were in decent shape. fairways and rough mowed nicely.
Challenging last 3 holes with island green on 18.
Very busy course.
Some challenging holes, 18 is island green. Would not pay regular fee to play this course.
A good course for the money.
There were some challenging holes on this course and the overall condition was fairly good. The greens were a bit shaggy but they ran well and were in good shape for August.
Hack away
The course is in need of repair. The facilities are poor and the grounds are rough. If it werent for golfnow and the cheaper rates then the course would not be played that often.
Fun course
Water early on is always a challenge. Greens were in good shape. 18th is always memorable!
somewhat of a disaster
I used to play here once a week and it was a beautiful course that was well maintained and as was a good value for price. My first time back in two years (had a newborn addition to house) and i must say i was quite displeased. The price i got on golf now was 20$ which from past memory was a great deal for this course. However, the course was a disaster. There was a hug storm that had blown through two days before so i will give a little benefit of doubt but you could tell the maintenance overall was lacking. the greens were spray painted massively which caused for putting in molasses on most holes. The 2nd par 3 on the course (hole 6 or 7 i believe) had all 4 tee box markers (red, white, blue and yellow) set up right next to each other and not even in same order, it was odd. One of the maintenance workers driving around had his rap music blaring from his vehicle as he went around and sprayed the course randomly, he never stopped to allow hitting and never turned down his music, it was quite loud. There used to be a bigger selection of food in the clubhouse but now was just chips and sandwiches to microwave (from what i saw) and i had to try 5 different golf carts before i found one that actually had some juice and could go. I'm really not trying to run the course down, but it was an awful experience and not at all how i remember the course just a few years back. I'd go back but not for more than 20$, i am sure it will look a bit better next time as they will have time to fix it up following the storm
great Course. Well maintained
These people are friendly and keep the course well maintained. The greens are great.
Needs fairways
Nice farm setting. Decent feild. But needs defined fairways, high grass. Could potentially be a nice course if it had a good superintendent. Better cuts and more water the field could be a nice and challenging course with their greens.
Sugar Isle
Sugar Isle is not as well maintained as it has been in years past. The greens tend to be shaggy and slow. They don't hold shots unless you use a high spinning ball like a Pro-V1. The tee boxes and fairways are in decent shape though as is the rough. Overall, a good value for the money, but don't expect outstanding conditions.
played today 8-12-16 made the turn there was a 6 some in front of us so my wife and I drove past them to the next hole. One of them was the manager he can up to us and said what do you thin your doing.I said your not suppose to have 6 people playing at the same time.It get heated.I told him he doesn't have to follow the rules just everyone else.Stick this garbage course. There are dead spots everywhere. They should pay you to play there.People not friendly course is garbage.Your better of to play in your back yard.Do not go here.
