Hueston Woods Golf Course

About
Hueston Woods Golf Course sprawls across over 260 acres of lush, rolling terrain. It plays to a beastly length of just over 7,000 yards from the back tees. Jack Kidwell, a designer who had a hand in many of Ohio's finest courses, created the course. It borders hundreds of acres of beech and maple forests that are accented with colorful wildflowers and provide a home to the area's wildlife. Kidwell utilized this rich and beautiful landscape to mold a scenic and challenging design. The layout features large, wildly undulating greens bordered by over 30 strategically placed bunkers. Four ponds also come into play on several holes and golfers will also have stands of mature trees to contend with. Hueston Woods' signature hole is the par-3 16th. This 175-yard hole requires a demanding carry over water.

Good course to enjoy golf
It was my first time to play there but I was impressed the course vry much. I played with my friend from white tee and it was good distance for an average golfers. However, I rated the overall rating just 4 stars because the par 3 hole over a lake made us a little bit nervous. It needs 170 yards carry shot to avoid the lake and there is no other way to go to the green. If there would be a alternate way, I could rate it 5 stars. We enjoyed this course very much other than that.
The late/great Jack Kidwell's best work
A true gem among Ohio courses. Challenging and fun at the same time. Greens are in great condition.
Pleasant Surprise
Played on Saturday, July 5th. The conditions of the course were fantastic. The greens were some of the best I have played on all year (member of a private club in Dayton and they rivaled ours, and we are known for having the best greens in the area). I hadn't played the course in 5+ years and I was shocked at how well the course was playing. If you can snag a hot deal, this one is worth it!
Perfect golf course
Great weather, perfect course condfitions, slick fast greens. This place has it all..if you score well here you will have gotten on the green in regulation...good luck...they do not hold...and all the greens go uphill...and your ball still rolls off!! This is meant as a compliment...not criticism..these tough greens make you respect this gem of a course .Lots of trees so you might have to be a target shooter. We will be back..excellent place to play. Hard to get to but worth every dime! Scenic too!
AWESOME COURSE
Course conditions were perfect, beautifully kept greens and fairways. Staff was super friendly. One of the best courses I have ever played, will be returning soon.
Dogleg Right.....
This course is a must play if your in the Southwest Ohio area. Course was in great condition and had some of the fastest greens I've ever seen, and I work at a premier country club in the Dayton area. The only thing I didn't like was there was a ton of dogleg rights (a least 10) which require you to work the ball a lot, but hey that's why this game is fun. Watch out for #16 (Par 3 over water). For $20 on GolfNow you can't go wrong.
Hueston Woods
Haven't played this course in years. Got a very good price from Golf Now and played in under 3:15. Course was in great shape, however has sustained a lot of emerald ash bore damage. Greens were in excellent condition. Play was pretty sparse, got behind a 4some and they graciously let us through. Fairways and roughs mowed with no problems. I would play more often if it was closer to home.
Trap could have used some TLC, sand was either non-existent for very hard.
Really nice course
There are many left to right shots on this course, you hqve to be able to move the ball in both directions
Nice course
Had been a long time since I had played here. Better than I remembered , lot of trees had been removed. Keep up very nice first cut of rough would have been shorter but overall this is a very nice course for the money. We will be going back, just wish it was a little closer home.
Hueston Woods
Long course, not crowded, Twosome in <3 1/2 hours, Back nine greens are very challenging. Enjoyed the course, weather and no crowds. Felt like we had the course to ourselves.
Spring weather-windy
Greens were fast. Long holes. hit a lot of trees near fairway. No leaves yet.
Best State Park and Great Value!
Hueston Woods was a course that in recent years had a bad rap because of course condition. But let me reassure you, this course is in fantastic condition and is one of the best public courses in southeastern Ohio. From the staff, to course maintenance, to customer satisfaction... Hueston Woods was fantastic. It is completely worth the drive from Cincy, Dayton, or even Indianapolis. Great value and great scenery. Beautiful place.
Great local course
Her is my favorite course in the area. If you're a long hitter but can't stay in the fairway, this course can be a challenge. Lots of trees so in the fall it is tough to keep track of your ball with the leaves falling. I've played this course for 10 years or so and it's always my go to course.
Nice design with beautiful scenery and conditions.
Great fall golf at perfect time for scenery, with leaves still on trees and not on the ground and greens. Beware of falling walnuts! Course is in good shape.
OUTSTANDING.
So happy to see this course on golf now. As a state park course its one of THE best. One review complained about "walking members", just to clarify, THERE ARE NO MEMBERS, walking or otherwise. Its an out and out public course. It is, however a GREAT walking course. It is also NOT A SHORT COURSE. From the tips its over 7000 yds. Its HARD put in great condition, even after rain and green airations. Grab your clubs and get out there while the weather is good.
Pace of play is poor.
The course is a tree lined quality layout type of course. It took so long to play that at the 5 hour mark we left with 3 holes to play. Played here twice and both times have been extremely slow. Members walking didn't let my group riding through. This made for the worst golfing experience I have ever had through golfnow. Challenging holes but not very long.

Try playing during the week...you get long rounds everywhere around southern Ohio playing on the weekends. Played on a Thursday and got around in 3 hours.
wow
If you haven't been lately, go here...greens are 10 out of 10. Staff said they are doing major fairway renovation this fall to be ready for next spring. Great layout...played with my wife and ladies tees are very fair. We will be going back, even though it is an hour drive from our house.
Southwestern* Ohio, not southeastern.
