Safari Golf Club
About
Located adjacent to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Safari Golf Club was carefully carved from mature forests. This tight course is not particularly long, but it has a varied design that appeals to a number of different tastes and skill levels. The layout features tree-lined fairways and water hazards on several holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers lurking treacherously beside the greens. The golf course starts off with a challenging par 4 that features a dramatic drop from the tee to the green. It finishes with two demanding par 4s as well. The 17th and 18th holes both feature a slew of challenges including rolling, tree-lined fairways and tricky stream crossings. Although it presents a formidable test on some holes, Safari Golf Club's hazards are straightforward with no surprises.

Course
Pretty nice course, some challenging holes, overall happy with the course
6 hours to play 18?
Beautiful day but 6 deep on every tee box was stressful. They didn’t square up twosomes, and the rangers didn’t seem to think that was necessary. On top of that I was in the Bathroom at the turn next to a guy that works in the kitchen... yea he didnt wash his hands. I told my group and we all watched him make food. Terrifying. Go else where
Deer jam
Great way to start your morning waiting for deer to clear the first tee box. Safari is always a good time, staff is friendly and very accommodating, course in great shape even after l the rain, greens were a little slow.
I’ll be back again
Improving with time.
The golf course continues to improve as the newer holes become mature. #1 tee is still not open so the hole is very short. The greenkeeping staff works hard to keep it in good shape and are courteous when working whenever they are near. A cart is a must because several holes have 1/8 to 1/4 mile distances from green to the next tee. I had a 7:40am tee time and the starter put me in a foursome. There were no groups in front of us, so I asked him to let me go early to get around more quickly. He said "no". We had two twosomes behind us. One twosome played through, the other pushed us for most of the round. 4 hour & 15 minute round because the rough was fairly high and we looked for a few shots on the front nine. Flexibility by the starter would have been a better strategy for pace of play. Nice chipping and putting areas near the #1 tee.
Worse Greens condition ever played!
Greens need to be Bull Dozed and everything new brought in to make new greens. They were rough and bounced any and everywhere due to the grasses being totally out of control. My playing partner agree on this and decided we will never play again until they replace the greens.
slow start, strong finish
we were delayed due to the cold weather in the morning but the staff kept the players well informed and once started round went smoothly. course in very good condition considering the long, cold winter we had
nice track
we went and played over the weekend. the pace of play was great, never had to wait on one tee (and the course was packed) fairways, greens, were in good shape. the course can be forgiving, which helps a average golfer like me. price to play in the afternoon was fair. would play here again
Golf
The course was enjoyable. However the starter was not very friendly. He told me I was on the tee the minute I handed my receipt to him, and that everyone else would have to join up with me on the course. I checked in 15 minutes prior to my tee time. He also said if we missed our tee time we were out of luck because they were booked solid. Then at the turn they told us we had 5 minutes max to get something from the snack house or we would be skipped over.
Great Course!!
Course is always well-maintained and a fun course to play!! Highly recommend it!
Best Course for the Money
Booked this course through GolfNow and it was the best deal I've ever gotten. The course was wet from rain the day before but it was dried out as much as possible. The course was in great shape for early in the season, besides one tee box. We didn't have any issues with pace of play and they had $2 craft beers. Will definitely be back many times this season.
Course was nice but...the rough....seriously?
Course was in good shape and I shot a personal best here, but I really have a bone to pick with whoever was in charge of the rough and the greens should be ashamed of themselves. Sadistic is a word I would use to describe how thick the rough was and how finely shaven the greens were. Trust me, Safari, a shortish course as easy as you will never host a US Open (even if you didn't have Muirfield Village as a neighbor) so you don't need to make your rough so thick people cant see a ball that they know exactly where it landed.
Pace of play not enforced
Pace of play is not enforced at all. There was a group in front of us holding up everyone. We called the clubhouse to report it and ultimately nothing was done. A half an hour later, while we were still waiting on the teebox... the Marshall came up to our group telling us to pick up the pace??? We explained that it was the group in front of us in the fairway (doing donuts looking for a ball that was lost 20 minutes prior) that was the hold up. When we further pointed out that there was nobody on the next 5 holes and carts lined up behind us they figured it out. They gently asked the group in front of us to please move quicker to which they didn't. After that the Marshall was not seen again.
I understand that this is primarily the fault of the group in front of us, but this course really needs to figure something out about how to enforce pace of play. Every time I've played here when it's busy it has taken at least 5 hours to get through the track. I played earlier in the year when the course was empty and was able to get through in just under 3 hours as a twosome.
Tee sheets are loaded here on nice days. If you don't have +5 1/2 hours to play a round I would look elsewhere.
