Safari Golf Club
About
Located adjacent to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Safari Golf Club was carefully carved from mature forests. This tight course is not particularly long, but it has a varied design that appeals to a number of different tastes and skill levels. The layout features tree-lined fairways and water hazards on several holes. There are also strategically placed bunkers lurking treacherously beside the greens. The golf course starts off with a challenging par 4 that features a dramatic drop from the tee to the green. It finishes with two demanding par 4s as well. The 17th and 18th holes both feature a slew of challenges including rolling, tree-lined fairways and tricky stream crossings. Although it presents a formidable test on some holes, Safari Golf Club's hazards are straightforward with no surprises.

Excellent condition, good value
Nice course. Challenging, but enough short par 4s to make it fun. Great condition, well maintained.
Very nice
i grabbed a $15 slot for an afternoon tee time and had a great time. Great conditions, cold beer, cute beer girls and good times.
Fun course
Pretty simple course but well maintained. Roughs are thick so hit it straight or be prepared to scramble!
Nice Overall Experience
I had been wanting to play Safari for some time and with The Memorial tournament in town and this course's proximity to Muirfield Village, I took advantage of the opportunity.
My first impression was positive. Very nice clubhouse and pro shop, friendly staff, and a pleasant starter. I was dropped into a threesome and really enjoyed the folks that I played with. Their skill level was a little below mine, but they observed good etiquette and had a great sense of humor.
I learned very quickly to stay out of the rough, especially with dew on the ground. Not only did it make finding our errant shots difficult, it was like hitting out of concrete. They were a little more manageable once the grass dried, but still very difficult. Stay in the fairway! The greens were in very good shape, but a little slow. That said, I'd gladly sacrifice green speed for good condition. If you hit a high shot they would hold, but they're definitely firm so you might consider landing short and rolling on.
The layout was challenging and it was relatively long even from the whites. I enjoy using a variety of clubs during a round, and the layout was ideal for that. I would love to play from the blues next time for a long-hitting challenge!
My only complaint is how we were dogged by the marshal. He twice asked us to pick up the pace despite the group behind us not having to wait. We had an elderly gentleman in our group and I think this made him enjoy the round less despite his very respectable pace of play. We finished in just over four hours, which I think is a very good pace for a weekend. I think this was an overreaction by the course since most of the negative reviews have to do with pace of play. If you're going to have someone out there moving the pace along (which is appreciated), please make sure they know what they're doing to avoid upsetting players.
Overall it was a good experience and I look forward to playing Safari again. The $46 was a tad steep I thought for the overall quality of the course, but it's well taken care of and has some pretty holes, especially on the back. I'll definitely return to play soon.
Bang for the buck
This course was a fun, long and pretty well kept greens could have been a little faster but overall I'd come back.
its called "Ready golf" people...
Safari is a decent, middle of the road public course. It's not a dog track, and it's not longaberger. The price is right for what it is, and the course appears to be getting the attention it needs to stay in good repair.
The course itself was in respectable shape, given that we've been a little light on rain for the last couple weeks. A couple greens had some spots that could use some attention, there was still a fair amount of "trash" in the course from the flowering and "helicopters" from the maple trees and the sand is "firm" to say the least. But other than those minor complaints the course was very playable.
What I absolutely cannot stand was the pace of play. The group in front of us was horribly slow. Screwing around on the greens like every putt was for the PGA championship or $100 a stroke. Not good when half of the group was 3-putting. Play ready golf people! Size up your putt while the person away is taking their stroke, and as soon as they're down or marked take your stroke. It's very simple, and can be the difference between a 4 hour round, and one that runs 5 1/2 or more. The Rangers were out, and I saw them speak to the group more than once, but they need to start taking a harder stance on slow play, directing slower groups to let faster players through, and in my opinion, if they can't maintain at least a 2:30 per 9 pace, they need to be asked to leave.
Great round despite my play
Being a native central Ohioan it took me way to long to make it out to Safari. The course was very well maintained and in great condition. The rough was short but gave me absolute fits. Overall I had a a very enjoyable round and was left kicking myself for not trying this course sooner.
on safari
Safari is a fun course and a good value. it is in good shape now.
Much improved after renovations
I played this course a few times before they fixed things up and it's definitely much better now. I would've given pace of play a 5 star, but there was a senior foursome league that slowed us down at the end of the back nine (but i guess that isn't even the fault of the course??). I frequent this course for their range and there staff is always great. My time out on the course was no exception.
Safari
The course pace of play was very bad and they had no one enforcing letting faster players play through. The greens were in rough condition but otherwise the fairways and rough were ok. I went the last week of April. Lots of straight holes and no water or bunkers. Good course for beginners but hopefully the pace of play isn't as bad as it was for me.
Nice but busy
Course was extremely busy but the starter did an excellent job keeping foursomes moving.
Never Going Back!!
Our round began great my buddy and I were moving along well behind a group of 3. The ranger then approached us in his cart to warn us for slow play, and I replied we are playing on the heels of the men in front of us. He got extremely rude and nasty with me. The cart path then took us to the wrong tee box when we asked the same ranger he seemed confused by the layout and was unable to help. We quit after 9 holes and vowed to never return to this place. If you're in this area check out Golf Club of Dublin much better!!!
Safari Finally Coming Together
I've played this course 3 times in the last 4 years and due to renovations and repairs it's never been the same twice. I do think that Safari finally got it right with it's newest renovations. With the renovations finally complete I am quite happy with the state of the course. With the exception of a few new greens which are unusually firm for the course (I believe they're new), everything was in great condition.
Pretty little track
This is a fun course with a couple of really pretty holes on the back. If you're driver is on track, you can really score on this track. If not, have fun in the trees. Conditions were good and the greens rolled pretty fast, although they were a bit beat up due to jerks that don't fix ball marks. Come on folks! If you hit the green, it's an honor to fix that ball mark!
Safari Gold Course
Very nice course, it was in very good condition after a lot of rain. Fun to play, not too overwhelming.
Grounds crew manager should be fired
Played at 11:15am on a Friday. The greens were in bad shape. Every green was different. Some hard, some soft, some were not even cut.
The grounds crew were on every hole....yes every hole at 12pm on a Friday. We were hit by flying fertilizer as one of the grounds crew drove right by us spreading. The cart girl has no clue what she is doing. Drove past us 2 times while we were teeing off driving down our hole.
If you enjoy a good peaceful round of golf.....Go somewhere else!!
Looks like we played on the same say. Did you play in the morning? I know they had a senior league going on that day. Because of this, my twosome ran into some pace issues toward the end of the round. But besides that, everything was fine. Hope you get another chance to play when there isn't a league.
