Roses Run Country Club

About
Roses Run Country Club is touted as being northeast Ohio's toughest public golf course. The course has an interesting mix of holes from lengthy par 4s to tough par 3s and reachable par 5s. The front nine is a traditional links layout while the back nine hugs the Cuyahoga River with winding fairways that melt into fast, sloping greens. The layout incorporates a variety of elevation changes ranging from subtle to dramatic. There are also water hazards and strategically placed bunkers coming into play throughout. Roses Run Country Club will require some creative shot-making and the use of every club in your bag. It's a formidable layout that will test even the most skilled players. There is a driving range and practice putting green you can use for warming up, which might be a good idea before taking on this tough course.

Decent layout, not a premium experience
Course was in nice shape late July 2022. Staff was MIA when we arrived for our 7:04 tee time. Lights were literally off in the clubhouse. We flagged down the ranger and he went and roused the pro shop manager from whatever he was doing in his back office, and the guy unlocked and opened up the pro shop. Bush league management. The clubhouse itself is dated and looks like it’s seen better days.
The course plays well. The layout is tight with a lot of doglegs. Greens are generally rolling true. All in all a fun day.
Horrible layout, No fun
Most tee shots are blind and tight. Houses right on top of the fairways. 3 out of 4 par 5’s you cannot use a driver off the tee. Tee boxes haven’t been mowed for weeks. Several look like the rough.

We’re sorry to hear of your less-than-satisfactory experience and hope you will accept our sincerest apologies.

A little rough
I'm surprised at how rough the course was. There are many areas of dried out grass in the rough and in the fairways. The greens were a little pock marked. The tees were the worst. It's as if they are being stingy with the water this year and waiting for the rain instead of using the sprinklers.
This is not to say the course was in bad shape, just not in as good of condition as usual. It is normally in excellent condition, but not this time. I would still highly recommend the course to anyone. It is one of my favorites and is still very playable. You'll just need to expect some less than perfect conditions this year.
Overpriced for Conditions
What you pay versus what you get is wildly unrelated at Rose's Run. Played it for the first time since 2019 and it has gone down hill considerably in three years.
Paid a prime time rate of $52 for a Saturday morning tee time and the conditions were worth about $35 maximum. Here's why:
1.) Most tee boxes a.) have lots of bare spot b.) have lots of weeds and c.) are in generally poor repair. Often times hard to find a good footing without stepping into a divot or the like.
2. The carts are in bad shape. Had to return the first cart I got as a.) it had a hole in the roof b.) the floor mat was ripped and c.) the gas pedal was bare metal (The rubber cover was missing). The cart guy was surprised when I told him I was getting a new cart. Also the carts are a mish-mash of hand-me-downs from other courses. One whole fleet have GVCC emblazoned on them.
3.) Green were so-so shape. Had to take relief on some greens due to burn out and dead spots in the line of my putt.
4. They have netting up on a couple of the front 9 tee boxes which is badly tattered and weathered. Take it down....it looks terrible
5.) Few ball wahsers on the course...and the few there were there had no water in them making them unusable
6.) The range is shut down so no option to warm up.
So all in all, not worth $52 given the conditions all around. And due to the layout of the course, walking is impossible so you can't save a few buck that way.
They really need to invest in it as these conditions will continue to turn away players. Or lower the price to meet conditions as it is not worth $52 for prime tee times.

Rudest Maintenance crew
Played this course multiple times in the past never a problem. Some of the rudest course maintenance crew I’ve ever run across on a golf course. Cut across fairways without looking while teeing off - multiple times. Standing in the middle of greens while trying to hit on. Turning on sprinklers on us as we were playing a hole Place has gone down hill big time

Dumpster fire
Shame what the owners/whoever let this place come to. Absolute horrific tee boxes, cookie cutter fairways (which are fine but these weren’t remotely close to being maintained), and severely overpriced. Worst muni in northeast Ohio hands down.

Past its prime....WAY past
I've played Roses Run a dozen times over the last 7 years. The last time out will BE my last time out. Tee boxes were a mess. Fairways were as thick as most courses first cut rough or chopped short and burned. The rough was partially cut with clumps everywhere . The greens were an absolute disgrace as they were intermittently bald (literally patches of dirt), scruffy, pock marked, or covered with weeds and dollar spots and they were bumpy and still had aeration holes.. One green was a perfect light yellow and dark green polka dot pattern. The bunkers were the best looking part. The carts looked like they were from 1970 and the one we had didn't have brakes! THIS WAS IN MID MAY! The course had 3 dry days after 5 days of rain....it should have been perfect! I won't go back. Just sell the place and plow it under

A hidden gem!
From out of state and after reading the reviews I was worried this course might not be that great, but boy were those reviews wrong. This course was in amazing shape and the layout, especially the back 9, was very challenging/scenic. Staff couldn’t have been more friendlier either. Next time I’m in Akron area this course will be a must replay!
Needs a lot of work
Roses Run has been going downhill over the last couple of years. Played there on Sunday, and my friend and I were very disappointed in the conditions. Multiple greens are very damaged. It seems they don't bother to treat diseased grass, and they don't bother to try to reseed once the grass has died. Bare dirt craters are unacceptable on a green. Greens also had multiple types of grass, and they hadn't been recently mowed, which led to very bumpy and slow greens. Untreated weeds, particularly dandelions, were everywhere. It might be worth it to pay $15-20 to play here, but not $39 as a hot deal.
