Too Expensive for what it is
15 of 18 holes are decent, 9,10,18 are pretty terrible.
9 straight up hill, 10 straight down, and 18 is an awful finishing hole, cant see your approach shot to the green
$120 = no GPS, and the course is not marked well for yardage.
the course is fine if you dont have anywhere else to play, but cost + lack of yardage + silly holes = meh at best
Slow Play
It was a sunny and beautiful day for a round of golf. There were two foursomes in front of mine that were very slow especially while on the green. Rangers were on the course but were unable accelerate the pace of play. The round took close to 5 hours to play.
The most annoying part about the course was the condition of the greens. They were in fair condition but for $120.00 a round I expect much better. I will play the course again with hope that conditions improve. All in all it is a fun course to play.
Very Nice Course Design
Everything was nice except green condition. very slow green and not well maintained.
Not Sure What negative comments are about. Course Played Great
Not sure what people talking about greens. The playability was unreal. Yes there not all one variety of grass there are many so they look a bit weird now. but that will be gone soon. They rolled great. Its not all about looks. Rough is rough. They were out mowing I guess just that time of year its growing like mad. Overall course in fantastic shape. Special on Tuesday and Wednesday $60 is a great deal.
Best of Both Worlds, Links & Trees
NYCC is a unique course, there are a lot of elevation changes, a few artificial water hazards, a ton of bunkers and waste areas and fescue throughout. However, it's not quite a traditional links style course even though it appears to be at first glance. In fact, when you get to the back nine, there are several holes that remind you of great course architects like Tillinghast and Donald Ross who carved out some of the great tree lined courses in NY and NJ. Basically you get the best of both worlds, tree lined and links all in one package.
The course is always in good shape but not exactly pristine and the price has gone up over the years despite the conditions not really improving. Regardless, the course is always enjoyable and rounds usually take less than 4.5 hrs.
The locker room is top notch for a public course and the food is pretty darn good too.
This course is definitely worth playing and pretty easy to get to from NYC.
Underrated
Course does not get the credit it deserves. Tee boxes and fairways were close to pristine and greens were in good condition. Only complaint -- can we get a first cut of rough??? Balls that miss the fairway by a couple of yards are tougher to find than they should be..
Proximity to the city is an additional plus.
Good course, slow play, meh greens
The staff is friendly when you arrive to when you leave. The course facilities are very nice. The layout and conditions of the course were great with the exception of the greens. The greens were in bad condition. Inconsistent, patchy, and burnt out in some places. If the greens were in better condition, which according to locals usually are, the course would have been perfect. The only other negative was the pace of play. We got in just under 5hrs. There was a 4some holding everyone up the whole day, which the rangers really didn't do anything about. I read a few complaints about the 9th and 10th hole on this course, which I didn't undertand. Both holes were completly fine. The 10th hole makes the course fun. Overall the course is pretty nice and would play it on hot times but not full price.
Expensive, greens horrible, rough was extremely deep and pace was slower than expected
While the fairways were nice, if you were off by a foot you end up in very, very deep rough. Cut the grass! The greens must have been worked on recently because they were in average condition at best. No course marshalls keeping pace. People played two balls in front of us and slowed things down. Would never pay full price ($120) to play here. Lots of potential but just not there yet.
Fantastic Course
It's a gorgeous course and worth the drive from the city. Membership terms are also quite fair.
Course is super hilly though. 9th hole is insanely uphill.
Nice course for the reduced price
Course was in good shape but greens were average. Its a nice course for the lower rate but not a $120.00 course. Was a friday in the afternoon and moved around quickly.
Nice course, great scenery
Very nice course and in good condition with plenty of challenging holes. Awesome views. Will definitely play here again.
Love This Course!
Great pace...great people. Awesome clubhouse and bar... Course conditions could be a little better, but the weather has more to say about that than the Greenskeeper staff.
ehhhhhh
Second time playing this course. I played around 2 years ago peak season, course was in great shape
I played yesterday May 5th - greens were horrible...
Pace of play horrible as well...We showed up 30 mins early, starter sent us out - great news
Unfortunately when we showed up there were a two-some waiting to tee off, a foursome on the fairway - and a two-some on the greens...how can this happen on Monday late morning...no ranger to push play along.
Oh and i know this is minor - but they need to creata a cart path between a few holes...instead of a sand path
nice view and warm club house
course is good, but the weather is very poor of heavy windy!
Pace of play
Overall a nice and challenging course, but the pace of play was pathetic. Groups were starting on both the 1st and the 10th. There was no ranger on the course and we easily waited upwards of an hour during the 18 holes. Very frustrating.
Poor green conditions not be noticed
The green was aerificationed around 2weeks ago and maintained. There were so much sand and paricles. Staffs was blowing out them when I was playing. There was NO aerification alert. Too expensive on that conditions.
GREAT ROUND AT NYCC
Had a great time at NYCC. weather was perfect and fastest round we played. only problem is nobody ever rakes the bunkers here and greens aerieted
Decent Course, but too slow
I would say this is one of the nice courses I have played in NY metro area. Staffs were friendly and professional. I liked the air brush!! However, the pace of play was horrible. No rangers watched the pace. Otherwise, nice course and good value for money.
New York Country Club
We got a deal through Golfnow.com for $39/player. It was my first time playing at the course and pulling up to the ritzy country club like entrance/clubhouse was an initial sign it would be an above average course.
We played on a cloudy breezy April day, which made the course play harder than I believe it is. The greens were fast yet true (loved these greens); very good shape for early April. There are several holes were the elevation change is quite the site, quite the challenge, which makes for a fun round.
Challenging course, friendly staff, above average greens... I would recommend a visit here if you can swing a Golfnow.com deal. I'll be going back!
