greens gone bad
Normally a nice course but the greens were in bad shape. That being said the pace of play was terrific
I would wait till next year until the greens come back before playing it again
It is a good course to play on a weekday!
I like this course as it is an easy drive from NYC. I usually play on a weekday a few times in a year and avoid the weekend busy and slow play. For this round, the course conditions were fine except for a few greens which were really in bad shape. The facilities are always top notch and I would recommend this course for everyone.
green Condition
Green is not at a good condition since some of it was up and down. means the green is not smooth .
My county club
I've played this course many times the greens were you not up to their usual standards
Needs attention.
Greens in Poor shape. Bunkers have lots of big ROCKS. Rough uneven.
Layout is choppy and doesn't flow well. The Free Drop Rule and the "NO out of bounds" helps with pace of play, but is that really golf? The design shortages and blind spots and shots need to be addressed.
My son and I were disappointed to say the least especially with the course conditions.
staff makes the course
nice layout with very challenging undulating greens.
the staff from top to bottom were efficient, courteous, and seemed to appreciate my business.
I would go back for that reason alone.
LOVE NYCC
I have played this course numerous times over the summer. We usually always play on the Tuesday/ Wednesday special promotion for 60 dollars all day. The reason I like to play at NYCC, is because the course conditions are always groomed and the pace of play is excellent. The staff members such as people behind pro-shop, rangers, and cart attendants are always willing to help out the customers and make us golfers have a great time.
No longer high end.
This course and others advertise as country clubs for a day eg. Ballyowen. But I would say this course does not qualify. Sand traps were without sand, the greens were not in good condition, the course maintenance is just is not doing the job. Aside from that the course has an interesting design, elevation changes on the front, flater on the back with the exception of 10 and 18. Would not play if not a GolfNow hot deal.
Fair & Challenging Course
Played the course thanks to a great deal through GolfNow. Played as a single on a weekday (11AM) and was surprised that I never caught up to the group ahead of me.
The course has some hilly (holes 1,9,10,18) so be sure to take two extra clubs for the uphill holes (#9 & #18). Greens and fairways were in very good shape, and there was plenty of water on hand to keep you hydrated.
Overall a challenging course with a combination of straight shot and doglegs to make it interesting. If you have the time, I would recommend playing during the week as I can imagine it taking quite some time to finish a round on the weekends.
Beautiful course, wonderful staff
This is a beautiful, challenging golf course with a lot of fun to play holes. Watch out for hole 9, it's a bear but the rest are terrific.
Not worth what they charge
Played this course for the first time, and luckily I was able to get $30 hot deal. During the round the greens were very inconsistent and some places they were in such bad shape. The layout was decent but I feel that if the greens are terrible, then it's not worth playing. I would never pay more than $30 to play this course.
Too Expensive for what it is
15 of 18 holes are decent, 9,10,18 are pretty terrible.
9 straight up hill, 10 straight down, and 18 is an awful finishing hole, cant see your approach shot to the green
$120 = no GPS, and the course is not marked well for yardage.
the course is fine if you dont have anywhere else to play, but cost + lack of yardage + silly holes = meh at best
Slow Play
It was a sunny and beautiful day for a round of golf. There were two foursomes in front of mine that were very slow especially while on the green. Rangers were on the course but were unable accelerate the pace of play. The round took close to 5 hours to play.
The most annoying part about the course was the condition of the greens. They were in fair condition but for $120.00 a round I expect much better. I will play the course again with hope that conditions improve. All in all it is a fun course to play.
Very Nice Course Design
Everything was nice except green condition. very slow green and not well maintained.
Not Sure What negative comments are about. Course Played Great
Not sure what people talking about greens. The playability was unreal. Yes there not all one variety of grass there are many so they look a bit weird now. but that will be gone soon. They rolled great. Its not all about looks. Rough is rough. They were out mowing I guess just that time of year its growing like mad. Overall course in fantastic shape. Special on Tuesday and Wednesday $60 is a great deal.
Best of Both Worlds, Links & Trees
NYCC is a unique course, there are a lot of elevation changes, a few artificial water hazards, a ton of bunkers and waste areas and fescue throughout. However, it's not quite a traditional links style course even though it appears to be at first glance. In fact, when you get to the back nine, there are several holes that remind you of great course architects like Tillinghast and Donald Ross who carved out some of the great tree lined courses in NY and NJ. Basically you get the best of both worlds, tree lined and links all in one package.
The course is always in good shape but not exactly pristine and the price has gone up over the years despite the conditions not really improving. Regardless, the course is always enjoyable and rounds usually take less than 4.5 hrs.
The locker room is top notch for a public course and the food is pretty darn good too.
This course is definitely worth playing and pretty easy to get to from NYC.
Underrated
Course does not get the credit it deserves. Tee boxes and fairways were close to pristine and greens were in good condition. Only complaint -- can we get a first cut of rough??? Balls that miss the fairway by a couple of yards are tougher to find than they should be..
Proximity to the city is an additional plus.
Good course, slow play, meh greens
The staff is friendly when you arrive to when you leave. The course facilities are very nice. The layout and conditions of the course were great with the exception of the greens. The greens were in bad condition. Inconsistent, patchy, and burnt out in some places. If the greens were in better condition, which according to locals usually are, the course would have been perfect. The only other negative was the pace of play. We got in just under 5hrs. There was a 4some holding everyone up the whole day, which the rangers really didn't do anything about. I read a few complaints about the 9th and 10th hole on this course, which I didn't undertand. Both holes were completly fine. The 10th hole makes the course fun. Overall the course is pretty nice and would play it on hot times but not full price.
Expensive, greens horrible, rough was extremely deep and pace was slower than expected
While the fairways were nice, if you were off by a foot you end up in very, very deep rough. Cut the grass! The greens must have been worked on recently because they were in average condition at best. No course marshalls keeping pace. People played two balls in front of us and slowed things down. Would never pay full price ($120) to play here. Lots of potential but just not there yet.
