Patriot Hills Golf Club
About
Tucked away in the Ramapo Mountains on a perch overlooking the Hudson, Patriot Hills Golf Club in Stony Point feels far but it’s conveniently only an hour’s drive from the city. The golf course tumbles across dramatically rolling hills, providing views that span the Hudson Valley. Don’t let the 6,485 yards on the scorecard fool you, the daunting elevation changes make the course feel much longer. Walkers should be forewarned that this mountainous golf course is nearly impossible on foot. You can expect a few approaches to uphill greens but more often you’ll be faced with intimidating shots from elevated tees, which loom more than 200 feet above the severely contoured fairways below. The Patriot Hills layout is a formidable test but players of any skill level can appreciate the meticulous care that went into crafting each hole.

First time playing
Course was nice. Didn’t let it be know that the 6th hole is closed for repairs beforehand. 1st hole is a makeshift uphill 100 yard par 3, teeing off of a mat. Starter/Ranger was very friendly and welcoming and apologized for the 1st hole. Rest of the course played very well. Views are beautiful. Pace was slowish due to several holes being cart path only and the group in front not keeping pace up. Round ended unfortunately, as a cart staff employee (rude teenager) asked me to pull the cart around because he didn’t want to do it. I’ve never had this happen to me on a course. EVER. Not my job to do someone else’s job for them. My father had something to say and the cart staff worker mouthed off to him and insulted him. Ruined what was a great day of golf. Will maybe play again next time I’m in town visiting family.
Amazing golf course!!!
I always love to play here at Patriot Hills.
It is pretty hard and challenging but great course.
My favorite course
I just love playing this course. It’s so beautiful every hole is better than the last. Love patriot hills. I play this course more than any other. Just love it and you will too
Over 5 hour round
This could be one of the best public courses in the NY area. The facilities are really good, driving range, two putting greens and a short game facility.
The layout is challenging but not overly hard and punitive. That said if you go too far off line there is a good possibility your ball is gone. Views are amazing. The layout is really nice, with large elevation changes adding to the challenge of choosing clubs.
Course wasn't in excellent condition, but given the weather and time of year can totally forgive that. I would say it was good condition, but better than many other courses at this time of year, so 4 out of 5 seems fair.
The reason for bad review is the pace of play. In 25 years of playing golf this was the slowest I have ever encountered. We teed off at 10.50am on a Tuesday morning, so we should fly around. 10 minute wait on first tee, no big deal, but it turned out to be a 5-10 minute wait on every shot. On most holes there was a group on the green, a group on the fairway and two groups waiting to tee off. We hit the turn at 2 hours and 40 mins, hoping the pace might pick up on the back 9 but it was just as bad. We had to leave after another hole or two. At the very best it would have been 5 hour round but probably closer to 5 hour 20. Saw only one ranger but he didn't seem to be doing anything. Clearly this is an ongoing issue as it has been mentioned in several other reviews.
Simply put, a morning round during the week should not be well over 5 hours anywhere. Patrick Cantlay would be annoyed at how slow it was.
Extremely disappointed as to what could have been an amazing experience turn into frustration and annoyance. Luckily was a deal time so only wasted $60, but also wasted time, gas and tolls.
Beautiful location and layout
Course is nice. It’s challenging and you need to hit your drive straight. The course looked like it could use some maintenance, but overall it was enjoyable. Cart paths could use some TLC as well. I played here over 20 years ago and remember when it was probably in it’s prime.
My favorite course
I have decided that patriot hills is my favorite course to play. I just love it. Beautiful views and great layout of this course
Nice Course with great views
I had not played here in over 20 years. It is a challenging course and you need to keep them straight. The course could use some maintenance and was a little less than I would expect for $120. I guess residents pay $60, but my expectations were a bit higher.
Nice course. Greens and t boxes need work
The course has pretty views however the t boxes and greens are in need of rest and restoration.
Greens are very bumpy as people don’t fix their ball marks which is rude.
The t boxes need to be regrown. I would just give an area a rest and let them grow.
Fairways are fine.
No refreshment cart during the week but there is a stand and restroom on 10.
Slow
5 hour round on a weekday just excruciating. First of all it hadn’t rained in days so no reason to have cart path only holes on a very hilly golf course. The group in front of us were playing from the blues and literally dinging their drives to the white tees. Gotta do a better job of keeping things moving. If you don’t care about slow play if it doesn’t affect your game and you have nothing better to do play the course it is very good.
MountaIN GOLF!!!
i absolutely love elevation change in golf and PH has plenty. In addition the course is in great shape. If I didnt live in NYC I would play this course regularly. Hands down my favorite Muni in the North East...
