Great course Photo submitted by 5959steven on 11/08/2016
Challenge on every hole
What this course lacks in overall length it makes up with the need for excellent shot making. A number of holes feature blind tee shots and unique elevation changes. If your iron game isn't on, you won't be. Their course improvement plan, begun three years ago, is beginning to reap real dividends. Fairways and hazards continue to improve and the greens are smooth and quick. I look forward to every round I play here.
Beautiful course!
The course is nestled in the hills just Northwest of Tulsa. Lots of up and down keeps things interesting and the greens are fast and in excellent shape, except for a few spots where people neglect to fix their ball marks. I enjoy this course very much!!
Unfortunate
I'll start by applauding this course for its amazing view of the downtown Tulsa skyline and its natural features as the name "Canyons" suggests. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this course to high or low handicappers. First, the course is only 6133 yards from the tips. Second, the layout is not conducive for golfers of any skill level. Common blind tee shots go unrehearsed when you cannot find well struck shots and course undulations allow the ball to roll from prime locations nearly 100yards backwards or to the side, further complicating search for your golf ball. The last time I played here I was informed that the back-9 was closed for aeration which was fine but the grounds crew continually drove past us with equipment engines blaring whether teeing off or putting. The playable front-9 was nearly unplayable. I have worked on many golf courses and have never seen so much sand on the greens. Nearly every green was so overloaded with sand that your ball left a visual path to the hole if you were able to get it to the hole at all. Additionally the layout of the course discourages the use of woods because dramatic doglegs and slopes will carry your ball into water heavily wooded areas. I advise that if you play here you leave woods at home, grab an old set of irons (due to unseen rocks/roots) and pocket your Pro-V's in exchange for a dozen Pinnacles. I would like to stress that I'm not discouraging golfers from visiting this course, nor is this post meant to bash the course by any means. I would encourage you to give it a try and make your own judgement. If you are playing on a budget and for the fun of the game, this is your course.
A great day at Black Jack Ridge..
Weather was excellent for an early spring round - play aided somewhat by winter rolls - hard ground, short grass. Greens were in phenomenal shape - ran true and quick. we will play again...
slow play, but still a great day of golf.
As always I enjoyed the course very much, but the pace of play was extreme slow, we waited on every single hole for the group in front of us.
Canyons at Black Jack Ridge
Most improved course in Tulsa!
Greens were smooth and fast.
I like what they have done with hole 7, with the pond in front. Much prettier.
Very challenging and fun
Take someone with you to watch your ball land...lol
A great view
Unique course withe great view of the Tulsa skyline. Incredible elevation changes, that pose difficult decisions on club selection.
Up and down the hills - great golf
Varied layout with hills and valleys offering all types of challenges.
The greens on the course were MUCH slower than the practice green, and the course greens were lower quality than the practice green.
Fun Unique Course
The course was not what I was expecting for Tulsa. Situated in a valley. Lots of up and down holes. More yardage markers would be helpful, but that's almost alway the case. The staff was extremely pleasant and it was an enjoyable afternoon of golf. The course was a bit dry, but it was August in Oklahoma, so it didn't surprise me one bit. The fairways and greens were in great shape.
Fun Place to Play
Very hilly course tucked away on the north side of Sand Springs. It can be very difficult the for someone playing the course for the first time. Many blind shots off the tee box and huge elevation changes makes it hard to know where and how far to hit your shot. I would play this course again. It was a very nice course at a reasonable price.
I quit after 7 holes
The reason I quit after 7 holes because I was paired up with a family that was out just for a Saturday outing.
by the time we finish the 7th hole 3:15 had past. these people where talking, walking in my line on the green, driving on the fairways as if they were four wheeling, and going to into the woods to look for balls. this was the worst time I ever had playing golf.
Unique
No other course like it in Tulsa area. Beautiful scenery, hills, wildlife, view of Tulsa. Short but challenging.
Such a fun course!
I played this course on a Friday evening. It was a blast! For a novice golfer, it was challenging but it was so much fun. Staff was amazing! People were very nice whereas some courses you go to it feels like the good ole' boy network. Definitely going back! Awesome view of downtown Tulsa on holes 10 and 17.
Very nice for the money
Played here 3 or 4 times now and the course is in the best shape yet! Never was bad, but now it's even better.
Not a course to walk, that's for sure! :-)
A workout
This course is in a canyon and is really a great course but be sure to pace yourself right from the start. Even with a cart you are going to be walking up and down slopes and hills for the round.
great course
Great view, keep in shape, greens was burnt-out a bit. But overall fun course. A bit much on money.
Best layout in the area!
This was my second time playing The Canyons - it's definitely my favorite layout in the area, and might be my favorite in the state! Elevation changes through the canyon keep you thinking, and a variety of straight and dogleg holes (in both directions) don't let you rely on only one shot shape. There were a few places on the course under repair, and one oddly wet bunker that I happened to drive into, but this is a must-play while in Tulsa! Would appreciate some water coolers set out on a hot and humid day - otherwise my only food and drink experience was buying two Powerades in the clubhouse.
Hidden Gem
The Canyons at Blackjack Ridge is the most unique and fun course to play in the Tulsa area. It literally goes up and down the canyon. One par three hole drops several hundred feet straight down to the green. Deer roam the fairways. The staff is the most friendly and knowledgeable in the Tulsa area. A must play!
Well, I don't know about several hundred, but #12 DOES have a 120' elevation drop from the Champ tees. However, if you hit from the clubhouse, the elevation drop is 215' (but it's a monster par 3 at 700 yards!)
Mystic Creek Experience Stay & Play Package
I can tell you from experience that there is no longer sand on any of the greens. They play fast and in my opinion are some of the most well kept greens at any course I've been to. Perhaps you should go back and see for your self! You won't be disappointed. All 18 holes are playable.
