Santiam Golf Club

About
Santiam Golf Club was started by a group of seven men that had a dream of creating an affordable community golf course. The course has a straightforward, classic design that will appeal to players of all skill levels. The layout features straight holes and gradual doglegs that wrap around tree-lined roughs. The landing areas are generous though errant tee shots will be met by stands of mature trees and if you are really off your game, your shot may cross over into the next fairway since many of the holes run parallel to each other. A narrow creek winds alongside several holes and there are a few small ponds that come into play. Steep sand traps also protect the subtly contoured greens. Santiam G.C. has a fair amount of challenges but it is player-friendly enough for beginners and casual golfers to enjoy.

Fivesomes on a Saturday morning?
The course was dry despite the recent weather and the greens were in solid shape, but the fairways seem like they need some attention. The biggest drawback was the two groups of fivesomes in front of us. I am not sure why the course would allow that during "prime" time on a Saturday morning. $40 for the round seemed a bit steep.
Easy course to walk.
This course is easy to walk, always in great condition and I can always find a great deal on golfnow.
Very convenient
The course is just off the highway, so is easy to find.
It is very flat, so what makes it more interesting are the many water hazards. Trees line the fairways, but are not so thick you lose a sleeve of balls every nine.
Beautiful course
Santiam is a beautiful course. It was the first "big" course I've played this year and it gave me all I could handle. Didn't shoot to bad but wasn't great either. My buddy holed an eagle from 160 yards on hole 13. That was the highlight of the day! Got kinda out of rhythm on the back 9 due to foursome in front of us not respecting the rate of play. I'm not shy so I let them know. Great course and wouldn love to play it again!
Nice course, but a bit noisy.
This course is a really nice walk with a pushcart. The layout is challenging for your average golfer without being unfair, as it is tree lined with doglegs, both left and right, and small greens, but not very long. It was breezy on the day I played which makes this course far more challenging given the above, very difficult to pick the right club.
The downside is that it is next to the highway so you will hear cars and trucks for many holes if the wind direction is unfavorable. Also, the greens were quite bumpy on my last visit.
Golf staff is medium.
Staff is medium at best, medium golf products/selection, food and service in the restaurant is great.
I shot my best round ever
Santiam is close to home for me, we got a great deal for 18 holes and I shot the lowest score of my life that day so we decided to play another 9 holes and i even shot a better score. The greeen's were tight and very fast and the fairways were just beautiful..I will always go back to Santiam
Fun course
Santiam GC is a challenging yet very forgiving golf course. The long par three on the back is very long if the westerly wind is blowing, which is usually always. The course is easily walked with only moderate elevation change on a couple of the holes, It is well maintained and greens are currently just getting back to perfect after aeration 2 weeks ago. They have a small range for you to warm up, and a large putting/chipping green. The hotdogs are the best around as well . It is a course that accomplished players will find challenging enough and hackers can still play on. See yuh there !
Good course, great value
Had a slow foursome in front of me backing me up, but conditions were the best they have been this year. This course is better when it has a few days to dry out.
easy walking course
This is a fun course to play. This time the pace of play was very good. The greens were in great condition although a little slow. Nice course layout with some interesting holes. The staff was very helpful. The driving range was quite small without many features. The restaurant / bar closed to early and was not as tentative as what they should be.
NIce flat open course.
Trees to the side of every fairway. Sanded alot due to time of season which did hinder putting but nessacary evil for this time of year.
Great Course with Great drainage for winter playu
Santiam is a pefect course for winter play. The greens ae rolling true and the fairways are in good shape for winter lay. The drainage after a bit of rain allows for excellent play shots without the usual mucky turf to try and make a play from.
Check in staff was totally unfriendly. Made you not want to come back. If it weren't for the cheap price we will not play there.
Nice walking course with enough challenges to make it fun. Too bad they have not kept the condition of the course up this year.
Watch out for the members
If you're not a local and it's Member day....don't expect any smiles.
Nice greens
The staff is much friendlier than a few years back so much I would actually say Santiam is now considered a friendly place to play and the greens are kept in fantastic shape. There is for sure an effort being made here and it may not be my first choice but I certainly don't avoid it anymore. I think the cart fees are too high and the driving ranges is a little weak but overall not a bad value.
