Silver Lake Golf Course

About
Silver Lake Golf Course sits along Staten Island's North Shore, offering a scenic and challenging layout that is one of the five boroughs' best-kept secrets. The course has a classic layout with postage stamp-sized greens and narrow fairways. At just over 6,000 yards from the back tees, the golf course appears shorter than it plays. The tight layout demands accuracy throughout especially on the lengthier holes, of which there are several. The course offers interesting risk-reward opportunities and holes 12 through 14 are considered by locals the "Amen Corner" of the North. The entire layout will test your shot-making abilities. In addition to the challenging round, Silver Lake is known for having consistently excellent conditions with some of New York's best greens, which is why it has garnered a strong following among local players.

Enjoyed the course
Visiting from out of town, we tried out several value courses in the NYC area with strong reviews. The good: The mid-summer course conditions were great. Good tee boxes, true greens. Many nice holes placing a premium on accuracy, not distance, but there are some longer par 3's.
The bad: It's a very tight track and it was not uncommon for other players to be searching for their ball nearby fairways...balls regularly landed near us or were heard hitting nearby trees...it's combat out there. For us, it meant the pace of play was very slow.
I recommend the course but would advise playing mid-week, or very early to avoid the slower pace.
Expensive compared to the course value
We had to wait for each hole and play with a lot of nerves because there were so many holes that overlapped with other holes
Pace of play poor
Overall course conditions terrific. Unfortunately pace of play was horrible (5.5 hrs for 18 holes). Didn't see a Marshall to speed up play the whole time...
Sometimes the bear eats you
While the course was in good shape and the staff was friendly, we got stuck behind a youth group. Sometimes you just have to deal with it to allow our use to participate and learn the game. Overall it was a good day. Happy to see the kids enjoying our game.
B-
Tee boxes could be in better shape and softer, the course is definitely challenging it’s very compact and unforgiving if you can’t keep every shot straight, the greens look and feel nice I had trouble reading them,
Great Time for a 5:18 AM tee time, however…
Booked a 5:18 AM tee time (Sunday) played with a random player. Tee’Ed off at 5:19 We were flying through the front 9 and finished in 1 hour and 20 minutes. On our way to the 10th hole, saw that they was tons of people which is normal because it was a beautiful day to golf. As I arrived to the 10th hole which is next to the 1st hole, I noticed a 3some with carts teeing off. We didn’t have anyone in front of us during the first 9 holes. I parked my cart and noticed that there was another 3some in front of them walking which again we didn’t see any of these people the prior holes. To have a 5:18 AM tee time, figured we would’ve finished under 3 hours at the rate we were going. My opinion shouldn’t send anyone/groups off the back 9 that early especially on the weekend. The staff was nice enough to hold off the group that Tee’ed off on 10th hole and let us play there but after that we were stuck behind the rest of the remaining groups. We finished the round at 8:50 AM which isn’t bad but wasn’t expecting that on the back 9. Still a great course and staff helped out as best as they can.
Challenging short course
Great diversity in holes. Greens were great. Proshop attendant made me feel right at home with my U Texas repping. Starter was very helpful.
Can’t wait to return! Thanks Silver Lake staff!
