About
Surrounded by the Pocono Mountains, the Pocono Hills Golf Course (formerly Fernwood Resort & Country Club) was carefully carved from wooded hillsides. Condos and other residences were later built near the golf course and although they are situated quite close, the round is still enjoyable. The layout is tight with narrow fairways that are lined with trees. The front nine is easier than the back where more dramatic elevation changes come into play. Many of the greens have elevations of over 50 feet, making approach shots a formidable test. There are also a number of tricky doglegs that are practically 90 degree turns. The layout rewards straight, accurate drives and the greens putt fast and true. There are a number of challenging holes, especially the 10th and 14th, but overall Pocono Hills Golf Course is approachable enough for all skill levels.

Great shape and layout
Short but very challenging course. Tee to greens are in great shape. #8 is always water logged for some reason, needs to add drainage. Staff or friendly and the the rate is the best in the Poconos.
Nice course
Greens were good most of the bunkers were soft and sandy. Fairways were lush and green. The rough was punishing very thick and hard to hit out of. Hitting the fairways is very important at this course. Would play it again!

Great value. Course condition is excellent and challenging layout.
But No practice green.... Hmmm.
Good value for $29.00
If you could play Pocono Hills for $29.00, it will be worth it. Don't pay any more... There is standing water all over the course. Their answer to this is cart path only on the holes. It hasn't rained in our area in days. I played as a single yesterday, and one of the cart path only holes was a 500 yard Par 5. LOet's say I got my exercise on that hole alone. Many other fairways were soggy & squishy, where the cart would leave tire tracks...There are some very good holes on the course. Figure out the drainage, you will have a great, challenging, but fair golf course.
Odd layout
It’s a fun course but it’s an odd layout and the bunkers are mostly dirt at this time
Senior Delight
Great for the price. Not busy during the week. Perfect for a Senior to get out and enjoy.
Pleasantly surprised
Played this course for the first time on a weekday morning. Wasn’t busy, just myself and some other singles and twosomes spread out. Course conditions were better than expected. Really nothing to complain about, the crew does a great job here. As a short, straight hitter I found the quirky layout to be very enjoyable. Not a course for walking due to elevation changes and distances between some holes. Paid $30 which is an excellent value for this course.
Great day at Pocono Hills
First time playing there. Not long, but tough ! Narrow holes, some blind shots and elevation changes make this a fun, challenging course. Course is in good shape, good pace of play.
Ranger was very present
While the title of this review is accurate, the pace was tremendously snail-like. The group behind our 2'some left at the 15th hole because the pace was so slow. The two pairs ahead of us should have let the entire backfield play through. But, that being said, the course was in fairly decent condition and it does have a couple of challenging holes. Overall, it wouldn't be my first choice on a weekend again, but I would certainly play there again on a weekday.

Course is super hilly and unforgiving.. if you love golf then it’s just the place for you..
