Pocono Hills Golf Course
About
Surrounded by the Pocono Mountains, the Pocono Hills Golf Course (formerly Fernwood Resort & Country Club) was carefully carved from wooded hillsides. Condos and other residences were later built near the golf course and although they are situated quite close, the round is still enjoyable. The layout is tight with narrow fairways that are lined with trees. The front nine is easier than the back where more dramatic elevation changes come into play. Many of the greens have elevations of over 50 feet, making approach shots a formidable test. There are also a number of tricky doglegs that are practically 90 degree turns. The layout rewards straight, accurate drives and the greens putt fast and true. There are a number of challenging holes, especially the 10th and 14th, but overall Pocono Hills Golf Course is approachable enough for all skill levels.

The old Fernwood
Nice course. Nothing fancy. Just a nice play to play golf.
Can’t beat the Hot Deals
Pocono Hills GC is a good deal at the regular price but using the Hot Deals and playing later in the day is unbeatable. It may be hotter but I’ll take the trade off of having the course to myself
Great Affordable Course
The only negative thing really is that I’m a beginner and this course is surrounded by woods; so you will lose a lot of balls. Otherwise I usually play at odd times and only pay $23-$27 for 18 holes including cart and clubs if you need them. Greens are pretty well maintained overall and the staff is very friendly.
The staff and course was great. The greens and fairways were in great shape. This course is a hidden gem of the Poconos
Pocono Hills
Course was in excellent condition, greens were very good. Paid $14 for 18 holes with cart. GREAT DEAL.
The 14th green is not fair. Loved the day most of the course and speed of play .
Tough course
The layout is tough. The greens are fast and difficult. Often you have no idea where you are shooting off the tees and fairways. Staff is friendly and pace of play was good just a very difficult course.
It’s ok
Lots of blind shots, back nine is better than the front. Condos are too close to the course in places. Place of play sucks because there is no starter and virtually everyone on the course is playing either solo or in a pair. Course is in good condition though, can’t complain for $15, but I probably won’t play again.
Very challenging
A very challenging course for the yardage, greens were in great shape.
Great deal through Golf Now
Course is in great shape thanks to their groundskeepers who are very considerate and respectful. Nice layout and good challenge from the back tees. Playing from the forward tees takes out a lot of the trouble , making it very playable for higher handicappers. I will definitely be back again
I love the course and cant best the price.
Rhe front and back nine provide different challenges. The front is fairly narrow, on the hills and in the trees. The back is through resort villas. A few holes have had water damage.
Management changed hands during the winter of 18-19. Much improved.
Challenging for inexperienced golfers
Pocono Hills GC is a great course but it will be a challenge for less experienced golfers. Holes 1, 2, and 3 are flat but after that the layout gets very uneven. The back 9 is especially hard because of uneven fairways and elevated greens. Also very few greens on the back 9 are flat. Putting them is quite challenging.
Second round
This was our second round while staying at the resort. Our impression of the course, amenities and staff remained unchanged. We had an afternoon tee time and had a group of 3 inexperienced golfers in front of us which slowed the pace significantly. We were waiting at every tee. There were two groups of 4 more experienced players behind us. We were eventually able to play through as the group ahead of us pulled off to take a smoke break. They left cigarette ashes in large clumps on the last green played. We also had to watch for stray hits since the course was more congested this time as well as being played by less experienced golfers. This experience also included a group of very loud women on a horse back ride along the course near the first 3 - 4 holes. They had no concept that there were people golfing. They were more into their loud conversation about eggs. Their guide wasn't any more aware of golf etiquette either. We also encountered several incidents of resort guests playing extremely loud music, in cars, on their balconies, and it was even being allowed at the pool near the check-in center. The highlight of our round was watching the mother deer and her two little ones as we teed off on 17. Course is fun and challenging, but rude and inconsiderate resort guests made it much less enjoyable this time. Use extreme caution crossing the road. Resort guests seem to be oblivious that they're driving through a golf course. Still great value for the money. Would do the course again, but not the resort.
Beautiful course, fun play
On vacation staying at the Exploria property. We were very pleased with the course. Very well maintained course. Staff were very friendly. Saw us pull in and met us at our vehicle with carts before we could even get out. Pro shop has very little. No coolers, no beer. Course does have ice cold water coolers and cups at tees. Course isn't as narrow as other reviewers implied. We're from flat Ohio so we enjoyed the diverse elevation of this course. There were only a few mushy areas along the fairways and ruffs - impressive for the excessively wet spring. Pace of play was perfect. Course was not busy, but steady. We enjoyed it so much, we booked another tee time before we leave. Definitely great golf at an extremely affordable price, hot deal or not. Plenty of available tee times.
Sunday afternoon golf
The course had some wet spots (understandably) and some bunkers need maintenance and care. Overall, course was in good shape. I would definitely play again!
