Pocono Hills Golf Course
About
Surrounded by the Pocono Mountains, the Pocono Hills Golf Course (formerly Fernwood Resort & Country Club) was carefully carved from wooded hillsides. Condos and other residences were later built near the golf course and although they are situated quite close, the round is still enjoyable. The layout is tight with narrow fairways that are lined with trees. The front nine is easier than the back where more dramatic elevation changes come into play. Many of the greens have elevations of over 50 feet, making approach shots a formidable test. There are also a number of tricky doglegs that are practically 90 degree turns. The layout rewards straight, accurate drives and the greens putt fast and true. There are a number of challenging holes, especially the 10th and 14th, but overall Pocono Hills Golf Course is approachable enough for all skill levels.

Oct 2017
The course had 9 holes closed and that was not communicated when we booked the tee time.
There were no rangers and we were put behind a twosome that took >30 minutes to play hole #10.....we ended up driving around them (plenty of space between them and the group in from of them.
In addition the greens had been severely spiked (aerated) with little to no fillin of the holes, so puts were ridiculously not true.
Nicely Surprised
It's been around 8 years since I last played Fernwood and must say that the group I brought (8 of us) were all pleasantly surprised by the conditions and challenge level of the course.
Sure, the weather was great, which always makes it a great day to be out on any course, BUT, while the course is shorter in length than most, the tighter fairways and challenging greens, made the round quite interesting for all of us.....Really, a lot of fun.
You can't beat the price, the service was adequate and location easy to get too.
Great Course to Play at a Very Reasonable Price!
Went up to the area for the weekend to play a few rounds of golf. Course was in great shape and what you would expect for the area...elevation changes, blind shots, undulating greens. A few holes can feel very tight while others seem more open and getable. Overall, a very fun course to play and a nice challenge.
Tough greens
The course was in nice condition. Staff here is always friendly and helpful. I enjoy playing this course. There are a few severely sloped greens so you have to put your ball in the right spot on approach shots.
Old course. Very mature trees offering tight fairways. Several greens have quite challenging slopes.
Love this course
I am trying to think of something negative and I am having a hard time. I could have complained about the poor condition of the sand traps, but they have started work on improving them.
The course is in great shape. The rough is not too long but you could pay the price for missing the fairway. The greens are also in great shape. Some greens are very difficult, big breaks and sloped. Several elevated greens make it interesting.
A round is always played 4 hours. And, the staff is great, friendly, and very accomodating. They even drive the cart out to your car and load your clubs, so have a tip handy.
I really love this course.
Fernwood August
Course was in very good shape. Greens were in great condition, but a little slow.
Enjoyable course
We really enjoyed playing this course for the first time, it has some very unique and challenging holes. The greens on the back nine were extremely difficult with the pin positions this day. Overall would definitely suggest trying it out if you are in the area.
Excellent value with Golfnow. The course is in pretty good shape, there are a couple of bunkers that have weeds and no sand that are closed but the greens and fairways are in good shape. I got a hot deal through Golfnow for roughly the cost for a bucket of balls at a driving range!
A great bargain golf course
Overall the course is a very nice shorter course to play with the wife. we've golf there quite a few times and have always enjoyed the rounds. The course itself is well maintained and the staff was very friendly.
Pleasantly surprised
The course was in very good condition, fairway and greens were well maintained. Only a few sand traps could use a little attention. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Pace of play was good and course layout was challenging. Golf cart paths needed some work in areas, but overall this was a great discount on a good course in the Pocono Mountains. I will look forward to playing again at Fernwood.
Not my favorite, but fairly decent.
Some holes were placed in awkward areas. For example, there is a big slanted hill in the middle of the fairway that you have to hit over that blocks the pin from view. Houses sometimes were too close to fairway. Three holes had very uphill greens. The course was easy to moderate. Most of the holes were straight. The course conditions were good and there were rarely any broken tees on the tee boxes. Overall, it was a nice course to enjoy. Definitely not a favorite, but instead for a fun afternoon.
Wonderful Course
Second time playing this course and I have enjoyed both times. The course is challenging and certain holes require straight accurate shots or you will be in trouble. The course is set up well as it allows you to hopefully find your game on the front nine before you get to the more challenging back nine. Staff is very friendly and courteous and I will definitely play here again.
Enjoyable
The front 9 made you feel good, the back 9 forced you to play smart.
