Pocono Hills Golf Course
About
Surrounded by the Pocono Mountains, the Pocono Hills Golf Course (formerly Fernwood Resort & Country Club) was carefully carved from wooded hillsides. Condos and other residences were later built near the golf course and although they are situated quite close, the round is still enjoyable. The layout is tight with narrow fairways that are lined with trees. The front nine is easier than the back where more dramatic elevation changes come into play. Many of the greens have elevations of over 50 feet, making approach shots a formidable test. There are also a number of tricky doglegs that are practically 90 degree turns. The layout rewards straight, accurate drives and the greens putt fast and true. There are a number of challenging holes, especially the 10th and 14th, but overall Pocono Hills Golf Course is approachable enough for all skill levels.

Fernwoid
Great day on the golf course, greens in great shape, pace was awesome , not rushed at all. Weather low 80's Sunny perfect day for a round of 18.
This course had nice greens
Other than the greens, some of the holes were ungolflike.
Interesting course
A good little gem in the Poconos. Very reasonable golf course for an excellent price.
Tight Course
Played in November and course was in very good shape minus all the leaves. Typical Poconos course, very tight and requires hitting the ball straight, not alot of room to "miss". Booked on GolfNow so the deal was right. I recommend playing at least once.
Golf in the Poconos
Fun course with some greens that are punishing, otherwise a great facility. I always enjoy playing this course.
poor communication
Front nine greens were aerated and very difficult to putt. Should have been informed before booking tee time!
Right hand doesn"t know what left hand is doing
We book online through golf now, no tells us front nine is closed ,until we get to course already paid. Three of us drive over a hour to play here, what are we going to do, we are STUCK HERE. Course is backed up do to having play back nine twice, Very slow round 5 hours plus waiting every hole to hit a shot, Ruined my day off , Staff was wonderful, only bright spot
Fun challenge
Played as a single on a rainy day. First time here and thought after the first 3 holes it was going to be an easy day. Then started #4 and from there on it became interesting. Not a long course, but many blind shots. Recommend going ahead to see the course before hitting your next shot.
short, tight and quirky
got a great deal to play at Fernwood and took the nice drive up there from Philly. After reading the reviews that were pretty positive I wanted to see for myself.. The front 9 plays 2990 yds from the back tees and with the elevation, thin air and firm ground the course played much shorter than that.. Even the 600 yd par 5 6th hole was reachable in 2 for the good player.. For the most part the conditions were good and greens had few if any ball marks.. The back 9 had some really quirky, tight and awkward holes. The sand traps were hard pan in most cases and need work.. The 350 yd 18th hole plays downhill and both of us drove the ball within 10 yds of the green. Fernwood is a decent course and certainly a great value for what we paid but its far from being a what any good player would consider great golf..
Tough layout
The greens were very well kept as well as the rest of the course. The negatives are:
•Tight fairways
•Severely sloped fairways
•lose many balls in the bottom of the fairways (The slope)
•Too many people wandering around on the back 9 holes. Guests, not golfers!
A solid 4-stars!
We enjoyed our round very much and while it wasn't anything spectacular it was quite serviceable. Not crowded on a Saturday afternoon, so that's a plus. At the turn, we got some hot dogs which were good. They had a cart girl going around which we saw a couple of times. All the things a good golf course should have.
The front was not nearly as tight as described in some of the posts and while the back 9 does bend around the villas /condos, they don't affect anything. A good array of holes with some elevated greens, short par threes and blind shots.
A little hard to find, but once there the staff picked up our clubs and from the parking lot in a cart and let us on the course before our tee time as a two-some because we were ready and due to tee off after two four-somes.
Nice course
Greens, fairways better than good
Sand traps ugly, but noticed some repairs going on.
Front nine much easier to play than back nine.
PLayed with my grandson nine holes front nine, several times. Back nine to tight & blind greens for beginners. Golf course is the best thing about resort.
very cozy
played on Friday at 8 finished at 11:20 with a 3 some in very good shape greens and fairways better than expected would play it again in a heartbeat!
Quirky, but fun!
We booked at the last minute in the afternoon while on a golf trip to the Poconos.
Course has some 'quirky' holes for sure , traps were like hitting off the road, but for the most part, fairways and greens were in pretty good shape for early spring. More than a few blind shots.....
Front 9 plays through wooded areas, back 9 through the Resort.
Course isn't long, but a well placed tee shot is needed on many holes.
Having a cart was nice as we hadn't played here before and it was nice to take a ride up and get a lay of the land on holes like #4.
We absolutely owned the place as there was nobody in front of us, and ripped through the round.
Staff was friendly and fun.
All in all, a good time!
interesting course.
Nice day for April still snow around but excellent course conditions.Lucky paired up with locals as a few very quirky very friendly staff and great pace of play.
Not a bad course for $16
I played this course after work while away on business. Overall not a bad course. The bunkers weren't very well kept and were packed hard dirt. The greens were well kept but were slightly slower than most courses I've played. Fairways were well kept but holes were short so I recommend teeing up from the blues if you are a heavy hitter. I played at around 2 o'clock on a Monday and played solo. I completed my round in approximately 2 1/2 hours. I played for $16 and wouldn't recommend paying over $25 for the course as there are nicer courses in the area at competitive prices.
Hidden gem!
Great fairways and greens. Enjoyed playing. Great value, too.
Nice challenging course
Course was in great shape for being mid September.. Green were absolutley perfect!! A couple of elevated greens that were really challenging, also a lot of tight narrow fairways..
Only issue was speed of play.. I played in under 3.5 hours in a twosome which is still great time but a lot of people playing very slow.. Could've played under 3 hours if speed was flowing.. Too many groups let out not put together
straight shooter
You will use all your clubs, as holes are different. Placement, and straight are keys to scoring well.
