Ambassador at Hickory Valley Golf Club

About
Hickory Valley Golf Club boasts two 18-hole, regulation-length courses, named the Ambassador and the Presidential. The Ambassador Course is the shorter of the two at 6,450 yards but it still offers a fair test. The classic layout is routed through towering hardwoods forests that stretch to over 70 feet high. The tall hickory trees loom over the fairways. The small greens are sloped back to front, presenting a challenge for even the most seasoned players. Water hazards come into play on several holes and there are a few tricky doglegs to contend with. The bunkering is minimal but the abundant trees will be enough to keep you on your toes. The golf course has some challenging holes but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Stuck behind an outing
Nothing worse than being behind an outing of old guys drinking and hacking away! Turned into 5.5 hour round as Ranger was no where to be found all day! Greens were pretty bad too as looked like they had not been cut for a week. Tee boxes we're pretty bad with bare spots. Used to be one of best maintained courses in the area but not now. Sad. Staff were usual friendly selfs.

Always a challenge
Even though a huge amount of rain had fallen on the course lately, it was quite playable. The greens did have more ballmarks than normal as every high shot into the green left a big mark. We always enjoy the nice people at Hickory Valley and the challenge of the course.

Slow play
It is a popular place to play which I understand but there is not rangers to help with the pace of play and I think they overbook. I like the staff there . They are friendly for the most part. I still like the golf club it’s just slow play kills it for you

Course played well even after a big rainfall last night.
Lady at kitchen offered to bring the breakfast sandwiches out when they were ready which was a kind gesture.

36-holes of fun, challenging golf
Visiting from Chicagoland, loved both courses - Ambassador and Presidential. Not sure why people think the Ambassador is that much easier than the Presidential. With that said, the back-9 Presidential particularly from the back tees is very challenging - couple of par-4s over 460+ with very narrow fairways and tough greens. But overall, a fun 36-holes golfers should consider playing.
