Ambassador at Hickory Valley Golf Club
About
Hickory Valley Golf Club boasts two 18-hole, regulation-length courses, named the Ambassador and the Presidential. The Ambassador Course is the shorter of the two at 6,450 yards but it still offers a fair test. The classic layout is routed through towering hardwoods forests that stretch to over 70 feet high. The tall hickory trees loom over the fairways. The small greens are sloped back to front, presenting a challenge for even the most seasoned players. Water hazards come into play on several holes and there are a few tricky doglegs to contend with. The bunkering is minimal but the abundant trees will be enough to keep you on your toes. The golf course has some challenging holes but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Overbook much?
In regards to the course itself - it's not a bad course, and the conditions are generally pretty good.
In regards to this particular outing - it took 5.5 hours to play with a buddy (just us two). It was RIDICULOUSLY slow, and the groups ahead of us were clearly contributing to the slow pace. They didn't once offer to let us play through, nor did the ranger do anything to speed up the pace of play. I generally like this course (when there are golfnow deals), but this pace of play was absolutely ridiculous.
Don't Play From the Tips if You Aren't a single digit Handicap
The pace of place was glacial - 5:15. Two groups ahead of us there was this foursome of men older than me (mid-late 50's) who thought they could handle hitting from the tips - wrong! Watching the one guy drive the ball 50 yards was painful enough, seeing 3 empty holes ahead of them was just rubbing salt in the wound. Hickory Valley should have had a marshall out to encourage them to move along.
I typically play the Ambassador with my wife and the pace has never been this slow. Shame because the Presidential isn't a bad track and the greens were in very good shape.
awesome as ususl
live rhe course.. if you hit it straight, funnpkace to pkay.. if you font, i'd suggesr gilbertsville gc, more open
HICKORY VALLEY PRESIDENTIAL
good course. nice layout. tight back nine. only complaint is that the greens were slow. should be cut .
Fantastic Course, at a Fantastic Price
Hickory Valley's Presidential Course is one of just three course I enjoy playing regularly. It is a great layout, challenging enough to be really fun, without any "tricked up" holes. There are some long par 3's, and a short par 3. There are an interesting mix of very long par 4's, and some dogleg, shorter par 4's. There are some tree lined fairways, and some wide open fairways.
The staff is courteous and friendly. The starter, Rich, was very personable, and made some quick conversation when I arrived. He also got me out quickly, which I appreciated.
Overall, I would rate is as one of the most interesting daily fee courses in the area, and a super value. I think golfers of every skill level would enjoy this course.
Good in an eclipse
Some holes very challenging....amenities are just OK
Great experience
Went out as a single late afternoon weekend. We got rain the day before. Course drained well, no sitting water. Fairways were very soft though. Tough for a 22 handicap to get to greens in regulation. Played from white but now I know under those conditions to play from gold. Pace of play was great. Staff was awesome, others on the course friendly to play through. Really like the front nine openness to the tight back nine. Some very pretty holes as well.
Nice course, good condition, good value
Second time on this course and course knowledge masks a big difference. Drive in the creek on number two and significant water hazard on number 9 are two examples of knowing the course. Due to a washed out cart path, one par four is really short. Another with the barn is driveable. don't be fooled into trying to go for it.
Fun to play. Good condition.
as good a value as there is
played an early morning round at the Presidential Course yesterday. Despite tons of rain and challenging weather for the maintenance dept, the course was in very good shape. The greens were excellent and just a few spots in the fairways that needed some tlc. The staff and Steve always make coming to Hickory Valley a pleasure. If you are a top player, take on the back tees at Hickory Valley as it presents a tremendous challenge. The value to play here is as good as it gets!
Solid course
The fairways seemed a little narrow when
there was rough even hitting straight. The should cut the fairways wider IMO. Some old trees are also growing out into straight shots down the fairways. There were wasps on 4th Tee so be careful. These are just my thoughts, overall it was a good course to shake the dust off my game.
Wonderful Course
I've played here several times in the past and this course is always in very good condition. It's a great mix of holes demanding both length and accuracy (very pleasing layout). Friendly staff and couldn't beat the price, would highly recommend!
Ambassador Afternoon
Although this is the value side of the courses at Hickory Valley, it still plays well. The fairways are average but the greens were in good condition. Not a bad place to play when you can get a price break on a weekend afternoon.
Nice course
There were several challenging holes which made it quite interesting. Definitely worth golfing again.
Not as nice as the Presidential course
Quirky layout, not enough good driving holes, and not kept as nice as the Presidential course, but not bad for the price.
Great course, great price - one great day
Okay, it was hot, but that's not the course's fault, and what do you expect in July? One of the best I've played in a while, lots of variety, great condition, challenging. Couldn't ask for more, with the bonus that the Hot Deal brought the cost down. This was the Presidential course.
