Reviews
Bad Shape
This course has not faired well over the past few years. I used to play this course often. Over the past three years since I have been there the course has changed for the worse. The greens are fine, the tee boxes are in bad shape and the fairways are non existent. Reminds me of a cow pasture with large patches of dead grass. For the same price there are many other local courses that are in good shape. Would not recommend this course.
Great Course
Lived in the area my entire life. Played there as a teenager, now as an adult I have been playing more often. I like the layout and staff, but sometimes the other golfers are slow which is at no fault of the course.
This is the first time I have played this course for several years. The greens are in excellent shape. The fairways, on the other hand are in horrible shape! There is so much clover all over the fairways, I had a difficult time finding my ball on several holes. The grass had so many weeds in it, even though the fairways were mowed, there were strands of weeds sticking up all over the place. Not what I expect mid-June. The staff was very friendly, the rest room facilities were in decent shape. Not sure about the pub, as I did not go in there. Overall, I had a nice day playing, but except for the greens I was very disappointed in the condition of the course.
My 10 year old son 1st 18
This was my 10 year old son's 1st 18 hole round. He had a great time and learned a lot. The only bad part was the group behind us kept hitting into us and when we grabbed a drink & a dog at the turn the men in the grill could not speak with out using foul language. We won't go back because of that. But if you are not taking a junior it was a pretty nice course.
Pleasantly surprised
Booked at last minute. Was able to get off prior to schedule and played in 3 hours and 45 minutes. Greens were in excellent condition for a September Sunday. Some fairways had burned out but playable. Challenging back nine and longer par 3's make it worth the trip.
Move Along
I went to PIT for vacation and decided to try to golf here based on reviews + price. You definitely get what you pay for. It was difficult to distinguish the the fairway from the rough, it might have all been rough actually. What was as difficult to distinguish is the ball from the mushrooms growing everywhere. The only positive is that the back nine has some decent views. Move along.
I wouldn't Waste My Time
This ranks in the top 3 of the worst golf courses I have ever played. The fairways are terrible and are mostly weed and dirt. Have fun even trying to find a piece of grass to hit off unless it is crabgrass. The course itself is like playing a hilly pasture. You have no idea where to hit the ball since you can not see the tees over the hills. Try finding a place to wash your ball. Impossible. There are no port a potties on the back nine. As far as the front nine I couldn't tell you. We paid for 18 holes but had to play the back nine twice because they were working on the greens on the front nine. That would have been nice to know before we paid for the round of golf. Oh well, I played it and now I know I won't go back to play it ever again. All I can say is don't waste your time. The one positive note I can make is the staff was friendly.
Took a Beating
Course was fine. Score took a beating.
Great difficult greens.
I love this course. Rolling landscape is not just flat golf. Greens in excellent condition and fast.
Greens in great shape
We had a 9:53am tee time. They let a large group go ahead of us. We started on the back nine and then had to wait 30 min. To start playing the front. Play was very slow because the fairways were not cut and lost balls.
Another course full of hills...
Just like most western Pennsylvania courses I've played on... There is not too many flat lies... The fairways were mowed, and kept nice, the greens were recently air raided (I don't know how to spell that!!!), but they were not too bad...
Nice day at Del Mar
Del Mar is a very enjoyable course - greens were outstanding. Challenging par 3's. Well worth the trip to Wampum, PA
Can't reccomend
Booked this course, based on the 4/5 stars, while on a trip with some friends, but it is by no means 4-stars. It's probably fine for a local, rural course, but not more than that. The facilities aren't nice, but they're fine. My issue was the pace of play and the quality of the course. There was literally 5 carts playing on the same hole, and 6 golfers. This could've been fine, but the course was severely backed-up. We quit at the turn and didn't wait around to play the back.
The course has some real challenging holes.
Overall the course is in great shape. The greens are challenging and adds to the professional staff for keeping the course in good shape. I will play this course often.
I was fooled by 4 star rating by generous people, I will never play again
It is only 2 1/2 star for me I will never play again
Lots of fun
Visiting from FL. Other nearby courses to choose from but a local recommended the Del Mar. The area has been flooded with near daily rain but the course seemed to drain very well as there was not a flat spot on the course. The fairways were lush as were the greens. There was very little roll on tee shots with the rain but still very little standing water. Greens were quite quick with subtle breaks. Liked it so much we went back later in the week. Super value with Hot Deal but very good value with standard rates. Would have liked to walk but might have killed me. Significant elevation changes. #9 was a peach. Par 3 190 yards from a tee 80 ft above the green. Many excellent golf holes.
Planning next years trip as there are other courses in the area that are "must plays". Played Cranberry Highlands, a semi-links course. Spectacular. The real gem is Old Stonewall just south of Ellwood City. Can you say stay and play. Mix in a couple of rounds at Del Mar and you are in a golf paradise.
